Six games in, does anyone miss Bell?

In short, I'm not holding my breath for Bell. I personally would RATHER he hold out as long as possible before the trade deadline. Then they can presumably put him on a 2 week hold before they have to pay him. That would reduce his salary significantly, save the Steelers a good chunk of cap money and if they want, releasing him at that point wouldn't hurt as much.

That is fine, I asked if someone can post the rules that show an unsigned player can not be part of a compensatory pick.

Either way, there is a lot we can do with the cap space. Bell has been outcast from the OL. Did you see the social media replies? He's expensive, and drug risk. Also over rated if you ask me.

I'd broom him now if we can get Peterson.

Coach, I dropped that knowledge to you in 3 separate threads that you were a part of. Either you don't retain information, or you're having problem with reading comprehension.

If the Steelers drop Bell before he signs the tag, he immediately becomes a free agent. Doing it after the allowed time for compensation means you get ZERO compensation. I.e. to get compensation for a free agent leaving your roster, he must do so at the START of free agency period in ******* MARCH.

Otherwise the drop is considered a cut/cap casualty and you get ZERO compensation. See Joe Haden getting dumped as a cap casualty by the Browns. They got ZERO compensation for him because they dumped him in August (Which is after MARCH).

So the Steelers benefit in salary savings by releasing Bell, but are penalized the ability to gain a draft pick for not adhering to an agreement (the tag). If Bell is CUT, he is not a Free Agent lost.

On one of the NFLN morning shows it was reported that ABs frustration doesn't have to do with Ben, but with the coverages he is getting. And, he attributed that extra coverage to not having Bell on the field.

Does anyone, honestly, think the defenses are the same we'd be facing with Bell over Connor in the backfield? If so, you are dumb.

Almost as dumb as trying to compare a 6 game stretch of results to one season of a guy's pretty damn good results (avg 4.7+ ypc for 3 straight years).

Once he signs just keep him inactive in case of an injury. Transition tag him next off season and let him find amother team and work out compensation. The smart thing to do.

Actually the loss of Bryant might be hurting Brown a bit. Not sure how AB's coverage changes with Bell instead of Connor.

Martavius was a non factor 2 years in a row

By the time Bell gets into football shape the season will be over. I doubt he's reporting until the last possible minute in Week 11. Might help us in the playoffs but he's essentially useless this year.

RON.................... Once the season ends that is the end of the contractual year. If BELL does sign the tag, he is released at end of regular season with NO contractual obligation. The post season is his discretion as to if he participates or not. MORE reason to trade/move if possible or just NOT play him in a commanding role

So would you rather have the cap space to extend our guys now, or get whatever comp pick for a bad character guy likely to sign elsewhere in 2019 and have him on the team for a few weeks?

This can not be true.

Agreed, I think it's more about a lack of a deep threat opposite AB than anything going on in the backfield. I might agree with Ark if Conner wasn't doing **** but it's not like teams can or have been ignoring Conner. The guy has gone 100+ yards rushing with 2+ tds in 3 of his first 6 starts...as many as Bell has had his whole career.

Last year, Bell was 2nd on the team in # of receptions and 10th in the NFL. That means that he had more receptions than 22 other teams top receivers. Connor is 47th. Some of that has to do with more going to the TE, but defensive coordinators know the above as do their players.

Connor has played well (2nd in Rushing TD's!) and far better than I expected he could, but teams have not played D, IMO, against us the way they would have if Bell was back there. So many factors, it is hard to say, for sure. This is the main reason you can't take a sample size of 6 games and compare to a whole season or a whole career. What if teams start to see Connor as a threat as they, obviously, do Bell. Sure that opens up Brown (or should), but it will hit Connnor's stats pretty hard, I would think.

I was, really, more concerned about Connor's durability since he lasted very few plays last year before being injured.

I wonder if anyone can confirm other than I but that is the understanding I currently have. They may negotiate an additional wage at the signing of the tag but the tag does not have playoff implications with in it. The Tag is base salary and ONLY good for during the season which ends at the conclusion of the season games........may run a day or two longer. The playoffs are in addition to the season.

ALSO the STEELERS could have enticed BELL to sign sooner by offering more than the tag amount.

I just want BELL traded if possible and then gone...........................he is NOT going to show anytime sooner than absolutely necessary to satify the contractual year and If playoffs are in our future at that point the STEELERS will have to decide the need to extend him if so desired.

Would you bet your family truckster on that? Pro Football Talk reported that if the Steelers pull the tag, they will in fact get a compensatory pick for losing him in free agency. Here's your chance to shine by clarifying the rules!

As Conner continues to shine, Bell's future with this team diminishes.

PFT is your validated source???

Extend who now? Steelers close shop on contract talks after the season begins. They don’t discuss contracts until after the season is over. They’ve been this way since FA started.

Whatever compensation they get is TBD. No one knows. If Bell doesn’t show up by Monday, he won’t until after the trade deadline. It’s been his gambit all along to preserve his body for next contract.

Steelers don't do contracts during the season. They will have plenty of cap room after the season, plus an extra $5M that Bell gave to us.

How many more Bell threads can this dumb *** start? Asking for a friend...

Now that you mentioned it, Coach starting other Bell threads does ring a bell.

No Coach, It's a sham article with no basis in the NFLPA agreement. It makes no sense, it's wildly speculative, and it creates unfounded circumstances that aren't covered by the agreement in which all contracts and compensation are formed.

Even the article you referenced doesn't believe the PFT bunk it was based on. Stop posting fake news!

that's cause coach wrote it.
