Should we fire sale this team?

The top five Steelers that need to be replaced.

1. Mike Tomlin. Incompetence on display. We will never raise the Lombardi trophy again while he's the head coach. Once Tomlin goes, his average to bad positional coaches and Butler will go with him.

2. Chris Boswell. He's the worst kicker in the league. Last in field goal accuracy, and he has five missed extra points.

3. The starting Inside Linebackers. Both Williams and Bostic are 2 down flawed linebackers, which is why Fort is getting a lot of playing time. You could argue the coaching aren't using them correctly and be correct, but the obvious flaws are there to see.

4. Sean Davis. He's shot garbage missing too many tackles, and dropping easy interceptions. His ability to break up a pass rates near last among NFL starting safeties, maybe even last. Davis needs to be replaced as a starter. As back up he's fine for the rest of his rookie contract.

5. Jordan Berry. Why pay one of the worst punters in net average 1.9 million a season? A good rookie free agent can beat him out.

Butler? Whoever our ST coach is?

Id cut the 5 highest salary players on defense, immediately

Not buying into "this whole 'fire tomlin' thing"? You've gotta br ******** me. Are you blind?

Yes, lets fire the guy that is running Tomlin's defense instead of the guy insisting that we run this defensive scheme. Eventually the leader bears responsibility and accountability for his subordinates.

I think it's best to pair want with expectation here. Truth is, it will take at least 3 consecutive losing seasons for firing Tomlin to become a real topic of discussion by ownership. Three consecutive losing seasons is not something I would want to endure just so we get a regime change. Realistically and traditionally, coordinators get a hot seat fast. I'm just hoping to get the defense fixed and we are in a prime position for that to happen considering the cap space we're coming into. Dump Butler and Porter. Clear out some choice personnel on the roster on defensive side of the ball. Blowing it all up would set the franchise back at least 3 seasons if not more, thus making the end of the Ben era an absolute certainty. Purging a franchise like that is what you do in Madden. Or Cleveland.

We need a new defensive philosophy.

Yes see my blow it up post. Last week and near the beginning of the season. I’m usually ahead of this board.

We just need more smoke

Hey, wait a minute. I recently saw Sean Davis break up what would have been a great catch by Joe Haden. He has it in him. Maybe he's just color blind.

May be simplistic on my part, but the Steelers need to let their defensive coordinator actually be a defensive coordinator.

1). Mike Tomlin
2). Keith Butler
3). Chris Boswell
4). Joey Porter
5). Tom Bradley or Danny Smith

The fact that we ignored ILB in the draft and free agency is criminal. And yes, signing Bostic is ignoring it.
Our defense is piss poor.

I lost a bet with myself. that Sean Davis would be number 1 and 2

Over Tomlin and Boswell? Davis needs to be replaced, but he's not a top three problem. If Burnett was healthy and playing well, the change could be an easy one, but he's not.

Keith Butler perhaps should hold 2 spots on this list.

1) As Defensive Coordinator, and the default architect of this defense, he should not be employed any longer.
2) For those who say Butler is not the default architect of this defense - that Tomlin is the real architect - then Butler should not be employed any longer.

They need an infusion of talent on the defensive side of the ball. We have some money to play with after this season should the right free agents become available. Colbert may also have to make some trades to get better pieces for us.

On Offense we've lacked that 3rd WR all year. The TE position has been good when we have used it but we go away from it too much.

RB less Conner is not pretty. We will be drafting a runner for sure.

Look at what the Bears did to get Mack. Mack is a once in a liftetime kind of player, but they went and added a piece. We had our hands tied by not getting a deal done with Bell, no cap space. Even with Bell signed we weren't going to be able to add to this defense.

That also doesn't take into account the ****** scheme we need to get away from.

I thought Bradley was a good hire at the time. Guess I was wrong.

Burns and Burnett...gtfo.

When all is said and done, more will be said than done.

Everyone is complaining about the coaches, but fail to articulately explain the scheme failures on this D. The Steelers have no answer for the spread/empty set on D. The problem isn't running LBs on WRs, that's a byproduct of the defense called. It's a zone defense, and every team in the league runs it. Problem is, our ILBs are slower than the rest of the league's, they don't get proper depth, they don't make plays on the football. Timmons wasn't much faster than the LBs we have now, but he could drop, scan, and make plays on the football. This is the way the zone defense works with competent defenders.

Of course everyone is complaining about the coaches, because it's their job to put the players in the best position to succeed. The main problem with this defense absolutely IS running ILBs on WRs. Yeah, every team in the league runs some form of zone...here's the thing...nobody, but nobody, regardless of the skill level of their personnel, does it 60% of the time on an opposing #1 wide receiver.

The scheme failure on this D IS clear, and its usage level by the coaching staff is inexplicable.
