But isn't that the point of football, the chess match? I remember Joe Greene lining up and taking offensive linemen at an angle rather than straight on and he was blowing people up. Offenses had to adjust to the defense's techniques and strategies. If I'm a defensive coordinator in the NFC East, I'm coming up with some DL technique and some strategies to keep the success of the play to a minimum. obviously, there is technique and strategy that was practiced and developed by the Eagles so the same should be done on the other side of the ball. Washington tried some Polamalu **** and got called offsides multiple times so the ref actually said one more time and they could award Philly a TD.
How about this minimum rule change. Tush push must be snapped on first sound from the QB. No long counts to draw the defense. That's another aspect of the play. The ONLY chance the defense has is guessing the snap.
On a normal QB sneak, a DL can lose initially on the snap but they can stalemate at the line and have the LBs surge the offense back. With the push, that's near impossible.
