Word is the packers have moved to abolish the tush push and no doubt other teams want it gone as well.

I say it should be banned.

First, it's clearly a dangerous play. It goes beyond a normal QB sneak. The NFL claims they care about player safety and are ruining the kickoff, but they allow a tush push, and a mass of humanity to crush each other.

Here's the real reason why it should be banned. It's too hard to stop and not good for the game.

I'm seeing people defend it by saying "just stop it". Well, that's damn near impossible. I also see people saying that other teams should copy it and that would be awful.

Currently, the Eagles are the only team that does it extensively. I think most teams have been thinking it will get banned and haven't put in the time to truly practice it. They think it's just a QB sneak with a RB or Te pushing from behind. It's more than that. If it gets the approval again this offseason, then a bunch of teams may actually give it enough reps to get good at it, like the Eagles.

Consider this

Do you want a game where pretty much any team gets to 3rd and 2 and they have over a 95% chance that they will convert a 1st down or score a TD? Just imagine how that transforms the game.

Years ago they adopted the Mel Blount rule so DBs could no longer grab WRs. That was very effective too, but was not good for the game.

If short yardage plays go from some of the most exciting and consequential plays to something like an extra point, it's not good for the game.

I was waiting for a team or media to make a stink about this. I am surprised more teams have not tried to copy it. I think i have only seen Buffalo so it and they failed at it against KC. I thinking banning and reinforcing will be difficult. Are they going to tell guys they can't line up behind the QB or push the QB? I think that is going to open up a can of worms. I think if it was that easy to do every team in the league would be using it. The Eagles have done it for 2yrs now. I do not hate it or love it, I just don't why to give the refs another subjective call to make.

My issue with the play, is there is no legal way to stop it. It is LEGAL for the offensive player to push his own man forward, but ILLEGAL for the defensive players to do the same. I'll try to find the article I was reading with a quote from Siriani, basically he said that they had to figure out a way to practice the play and once they did, they spend a good amount of time practicing it.

Why was it hard to find a way to practice the play? Line up your D and your O and practice the play...

Found it: https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/44012335/nick-sirianni-says-unfair-eagles-tush-push-banned

Since 2022, the Eagles have run 108 tush pushes -- where a team lines up one or more players behind the quarterback to push him forward against the defense -- nearly twice as many as the next-closest team (Bills, 55) and 92 more than the team with the third-most attempts (Chicago Bears, 16), according to ESPN Research.

The Eagles and Bills have scored a touchdown or achieved a first down on 87% of their attempts using the play, while the rest of the NFL has been successful on just 71%, per ESPN Research.

I wonder what JUST the Eagles percentage is...

I think the injury excuse is BS. I would be curious to see the stats on QB sneaks for 1yrd or less. I can see it being enforced like the long snapper penalties which we seem to get screwed over on alot. If we tried a tush push we would probably lose 3yrds. If a team gets to 3rd and 1 or 4th and 1 it should be a high conversion rate anyways. I don't think it hurts the game anymore than QB sneaking.

you arent that defensive tackle who has to try and stop it.

But isn't that the point of football, the chess match? I remember Joe Greene lining up and taking offensive linemen at an angle rather than straight on and he was blowing people up. Offenses had to adjust to the defense's techniques and strategies. If I'm a defensive coordinator in the NFC East, I'm coming up with some DL technique and some strategies to keep the success of the play to a minimum. obviously, there is technique and strategy that was practiced and developed by the Eagles so the same should be done on the other side of the ball. Do some Troy Polamalu type ****. :ROFLMAO:

I’m up in the air about this.
The tush push is similar to the rugby scrum.
To say football is like rugby a bad thing or a good thing? Probably neither.

I read one article that called the tush push “the brotherly shove” LOL

No injuries from it.
It seems less injuries would occur because they are so crammed together and it’s slower unlike high speed open field tackles and blocks.

If they get rid of the tush push, they have to get rid of all the pushing and even lifting up the ball carrier to gain more yards. They will have to go back to blowing the play dead once forward progress stops and not give teams the opportunity to push or carry the ball carrier. I could care less either way but if it stays, teams (Steelers especially) need to learn how to do it and how to defend it. No one has really come close to defending it yet the Steelers rarely convert on 3rd or 4th and 1 (or 2) yard to go.

I think the qb slide should be banned. If you're going to run,you have to man up or don't run. It's total bullshit the way it's set up now.

It was banned for decades because of injuries in the early days of football... along with standing on other players and throwing players... if they are gonna bring back dangerous plays to increase offense, then Unban the Midget toss.... that would be a far greater entertainment value goal line play... plus it would allow smaller people a role in the nfl... Dri archer could come out of retirement, lol... not to mention the added bonus that eventually one of the tossed little persons would get spiked back in the qb's face.. which would be super comical

I just think the tush push is a shitttty football play to watch, liked only by the fans of one team, that removes all the tension from 3rd/4th and short.

It's less exciting than watching the Steelers fail on a bubble screen or a jet sweep.

This is where I am with it. I don't know if it should be abolished, but either way it's not an entertaining play to watch.

I’m beginning to feel the same way.

A shittty football play is the best way to describe it.

Just imagine all day Saturday you watch every college team do tush push every 3rd and 4th down and converting over 90%. Then on Sunday it's the same thing. No more creative plays. No more nailbiting moments. It's 3rd and 2 and you take that moment to go to the kitchen knowing when you come back it will be 1st down.

NFL Redzone becomes the tush push channel.

Offense has enough advantages,.

The NBA is going down the tubes because of analytics and 3 pointers. They loved Steph Curry for a time but then the game became a 3 point contest and their ratings are in the toilet.

This is the argument that needs to be made. It's a boring play that will hurt the game (IE make it less watchable) if it becomes the norm.
