Here's one vote for yes.

Should be 12 or 16. Until then, it's still a voting contest.

No - 4 teams is too many, get rid of the whole playoff system.

College is for education, not an NFL training league for the wealthy - 99% of college football players never play in the NFL.

At least 16 teams . The rest of the damn sports in the NCAA have real playoffs. Why not football?

Ha.... if only the almighty $$$ wasn't in play as it is, this statement would hold *some weight.

8 teams would squelch any legitimate controversy. 16 could create a new holiday season tradition. It kinda sucks going a month in between the conference championship games and Bowl/playoff games. Have the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas feature playoff games.

What does a college playoff have to do with the NFL?

Hmmm 12 with a bye for the top 4 teams?

**** 12. Then you have Conference Champ Penn State having to play an extra game while wild card Ohio State gets a bye.

Again **** that!

When you have a team that couldn't win their conference, or even play in their conference championship game, playing for a national title, the playoff system is a sham. Especially if that conference's champion is not playing in the playoff.

It will expand, because what they have now, still doesn't work.

I wholeheartedly agree, but having 4 of the 12 teams getting a bye would likely create a similar problem with the difference being who gets a bye week.

another month of games added to college football

another month of crippling life long injuries to student athletes that should be studying for finals

I agree with you too Trog, I just don't see the NCAA going from 8-16 without a buffer. I think they will fear that by letting too many teams in at once, it will further water down the bowl games, so it would make sense to do 12 first then 16 IMHO. I think 8 games will happen within the next 5 years.

You know what might be a good idea? When teams expand to 16, you can have the losers outside of the final 4, be eligible for bowl games. That would definitely make some of the bowl matchups more interesting.

I agree 100% - colleges are for education. They are not an NFL farm system.

12 teams and regardless of rank, no team receives a bye without a conference championship. That would allow a team like Ohio State to enter the tourney but award Penn State for the Conference. A playoff would be such a win and amazing to watch. Imagine a Western Michigan getting in and then beating a team like Wisconsin or Michigan. The whole country would go crazy watching the playoffs.

Just copy what FCS does with the 24 team field. The current system is bullshit

Student athletes? How many college football players graduate?

"The graduation rates of players in the Football Bowl Subdivision are still twenty points below their male campus peers and worsened in the past three years,"

About half of the NFL players graduated, and many admit academic fraud and basketweaving like courses.

The NCAA and colleges view football players in general ( the football program pays for the other sporting programs, and make alumni fat cats rich ) as free labor.

Division II and III are able to have larger tournaments and still go to class and study for finals. More and more small school players are making the NFL; so the "they won't make the NFL" argument doesn't apply IMO

4 is fine and I'm a Penn State fan. But, if they were to expand, I wouldn't go any more than 8 teams. There really is no need. Football can't have a playoff like basketball, etc. It would go on for months. Even expanding to 8 teams means you need 3 weeks to get the playoffs in. It's just not as important or as needed as the playoffs in the NFL.

First of all, let's call it what it is...a College Football INVITATIONAL.

A playoff, by its very definition involves division/conference champions of all said entities within the group. This should mean that for Div 1-A (FBS) you need a minimum of 11 spots in a true playoff system...then to make it even you would simply add 5 "At-Large" teams to make the brackets even. You could put a qualifier in there that the conference champs must win a minimum number of games (so you don't get some 7-5 Sun Belt team in there)...

The current system is better than the last one, which was better than the one before that, which was better than having no system at all.

AND... here's the real kicker... the "College Football Playoff" isn't even an NCAA-sanctioned event!! It is privately run by the universities where the NCAA has no governance. Period. Division 1 (FBS) Football is the ONLY SPORT at any level that does not have an officially sanctioned championship or playoff system. THE ONLY ONE.

It has to expand to at least 8. This year, the 2 best teams were left out so it is already flawed.

Also, undefeated Western Michigan was never even considered. I think they should sue the NCAA in a class action with all other small schools. If the NCAA allows teams to be in the FBS level, then they must all be eligible to win the championship. It is clear that only teams from the Power 5 conferences are truly eligible.

8 teams would be the best. 12 would be the absolute max. If you get more than that then the regular season is meaningless. That's the problem with basketball. The NCAA basketball season is nearly meaningless.

12 teams would be good because then you can get into bye weeks for top teams and you can have the first few rounds played at home stadiums of the higher seed teams. This would give teams something to play for all season, either playing for a bye or to host a game just like the NFL.

That's just it, the argument will be it's never enough - next year U will be here arguing for a 24 team playoff!

Damn right - I think football should be over in November for college, but I understand the Bowl system is there to make money to finance all their college sports, so
I would not want to change that so some shitfaced fat **** eating his cheesy puffs on the couch in January can slobber out his "I want a REAL #1 College Football Champion, 24 game Playoffs!" ...derp derp

then they forget who was playing the day after

Huh? It's been three weeks since most teams have played and the season won't end for another couple weeks. A playoff wouldn't lengthen the season at all.
