season reset

Maybe there will be an awakening and this 2019 team becomes the latest rendition of the Bad News Bears but I'm realistically thinking 5-11.

Odd...

Tibs, interesting comparison you make there. The problem is the NFL is now a pass happy league where running the ball is only used to spell the WRs from being gassed.

Pittsburgh needs to use runs short passes and occasionally a bomb BUT the Defense needs to step it up and become a shutdown unit.

ALL MEN ON DECK!

We got Ben at #11 in the draft coming off a 6-10 season, to think we could have that chance again, oh wait, we got a safety instead

That 2004 defense had Casey Hampton, Aaron Smith, Brett Keisel, Clark Haggans James Harrison, Troy, Joey Porter...all in their prime

Teams FEARED playing that defense, lol, the offense was pretty good too. Stars everywhere, Hines Ward, Bettis, Randel El, Willie Suh-weet titties Parker, all busting out

I remember watching Sportscenter highlights after the Philly blowout (they had blown the doors off NE the week before), and Stu Scott says "Hey, Philly, come get some of what we FORCE FED New England last week...yo..can a brother get some DOMINATION?"

A magical regular season and those two games really hearkened back to the glory days.

That defense had a DL that stopped the run. Our DL can't stop the run for ****. Our LBs besides Watt aren't making plays like Porter, Haggans (weak link), Farrior and Foote did. Our corners were our weak spot on that D. Townsend and Ike. Now it appears our corners are a strength but because we aren't getting to the QB the secondary gets picked apart. That and genius Butler puts LBs on WRs

I don't think this defense has a strength, lol, certainly not at CB.

The best we can hope for is the offense can stay on the field and possess the ball to keep our D fresh enough to be able to finish the game.

But SF likes to pound the ball up the middle, so we''ll see how that goes.

Who knows, 35 years ago, the underdog Steelers handed the 49ers their only loss of the 1984 season, with John Stallworth catching the game-winning score in the game's final minute.

Mason needs some first game magic, or something

Yeah, saw that online and found it interesting. But only from a numerology aspect...not drawing any further comparisons between now and that 2004 team, or whenever it was.

Difference is in 2004 we had a head coach who knew WTF even though we bitched about MartyBall at the time, Jerome Bettis, and a lights-out defense.

I'm serious, what the **** is the strength of this defense?

Rushing the passer? Other that Watt, not from the outside.
Defending the run? They still weak up the middle and get knocked back on their assess when they try to stop a 3rd n one.
Defending the pass? Nope
Defending the TE over the middle? Hell nope
Forcing turnovers? Nope
Shutting down the big plays? Nope
Tackling? Hell nope

Strength is an intellectual powerhouse at the helm so the scheme is brilliant. Players just need to step up and execute. Don't believe me, ask Tomlin. He will tell you.

Stop the run you say? What's one of the biggest ways to help do that you ask? Big Snack II at nose tackle commanding double teams and clogging the middle of the field.

I know they say a NT isn't used because of sub-package football. I say bullshit! Having a NT that can command double teams and clog the middle of the field, helps not only the run, but the pass rushers. It also helps when the opposing team runs on third and long - something the Steelers have made a habit of giving up big runs on.

The strength is in the pedigree, obviously.
Other than that, it's folding in the 4th quarter, and miscommunication.
I had high hopes for the season, but maybe I was just high and had hopes.

Our offense will be more ball control

Our defense is gonna do an about face and start dominating games like no one's business. Our take-aways are gonna be off the charts....We will run off 7 in a row at one point and finish 11-5.

We ain't tossing the season we bout' to start tossing people....

Only a die hard, eternally optimistic, Steeler beer goggles wearing member of Steeler Nation, would be predicting more than 7 wins from this edition of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

yes you rang?

:towel:

looking at the schedule remaining if I take my Steeler goggles off. I see 9 to 10 wins. if the ball bounces the right way we can squeak out 12 wins

If all of the stupid players are out. ( Davis, Moncrief ) add Dupree and hope Boswell is okay this team can rebound quickly.

Butler might want to slowly work in Bush. I’m still itching to see Gilbert.

The rest of our schedule is on the easy side.

We play the Jets, Bills and Dolphins ( Patriots easy AFC east ) along with the Colts and and Cardinals. Plus the Bengals 2x

Okay, at least five of these six teams will be picking in the top half of round one, so there is hope.

What the Steelers need now is good coaching and to avoid the 0-3 start. A win, and I'm still optimistic for the playoffs. A loss and...

Nothing is easy with an unproven QB and a team that is what their record shows. 0 and 2.

Playoffs is attainable talent wise. They just have to play a helluva a lot better than what they have shown.

We'll see.
