Sean Payton listening to Offers for Keenan Lewis

He was a FA and wanted to go home. I think that's why the steelers didn't offer him a contract. He seemed set on returning to NO. Now NO doesn't want him and he is signed to a contract. Personally, I'd trade him for a 6th and wouldn't redo his contract. I'd keep it as is.

NO doesn't have to pay his bonus, because they already did when he signed his contract. His signing bonus is NO's dead money, not ours if we get him. Only his salary counts against our cap. At the current price, it's a no brainer.

but he wants to get a new contract, one which guarantees the money left on his actual contract. And as Del said, he'll demand that from the team he gets traded to

He's not some great corner, he left of his own free will, and now he's a malcontent to boot? He'd look great in black and gold..........................................................

Sometimes the way to improve team morale is to get rid of all the unhappy people. We don't need any more Blounts, thank you.

Why does it have to be accompanied with a new deal? NO can trade his contract to whoever they want. The new team does not have to renegotiate. If the team wants to play hard ball, they fine the **** out of him when Keenan chooses to hold out. Much smarter to make money than lose money when you don't have any bargaining power. If he was a better player, a holdout could work. In this situation, the teams have him by the balls.

I imagine that trades don't work that way all the time. Both parties want a smooth transition and will make sure that will happen before going forward. I'm sure Lewis' agent has already informed interested teams what he is asking for, and if they can negotiate a deal, they will make their move. If not, they will walk away.

'

Can you blame them though?

They play in the most lucrative and most violent sport on earth where the owners can cut them at the drop of a dime. I have no problems with any player trying to maximize has $$.

Antonio Brown is in the 3rd year of his deal.

He's scheduled to make $6 million this year. That's it. He's arguably in the top-5 receivers in the game right now and can be an upgrade to most in the punt return game. Do you know how much guaranteed Brown would get if he was a free agent? $25 to $30 million. Easy.

Should he start bitching and moaning? He could complain about roster turnover, our continued failures in the playoffs. Hell, he could just not like the way Pittsburgh smells. I'm sure he could make up something about Haley and/or Tomlin he doesn't like.

The reason he won't is because he's professional about his contract. He knows he got his money up front. He knows he dipped his foot into the money well early and that cost him now. That was his choice. Not the Steelers. The professional time you start complaining about an agreed contract is with 2-years left (and even then it's hard to get your way) and certainly acceptable to complain/hold out with one year left.

Everyone wants to say "Well, the team can cut you after one year....". In almost all those cases the player makes out like a bandit. Michael Johnson got $18 million for play JUST ONE YEAR for Tampa Bay. Anthony Collins got $9 million for his one year with them last year. How is this possibly BAD for the player?

There's some misguided idea that salaries aren't guaranteed in the NFL. Of course they are. HUGE amounts of contracts are guaranteed. Would Michael Johnson get a contract that pays him $18 million in any one season if contracts were just base salaries? Not a chance. But yet he GOT that money. It's in his bank account whether he's playing or not. In fact, he will actually make MORE because he'll get paid from another team.

The truth is most of the these mega-contracts are beneficial for both parties in the first 3 years and then they (in reality) kind of become "option years" for each party every year after that. If the team cuts a player before year 3, when you really look at the money spent in almost EVERY instance the player made out like a bandit and the team suffers. Year 3 is when there is normally a balance between when the team starts to get their value AND the player gets good payment. In year 4, the "options" kick in. Does the team still want him at X dollars? And likewise, if a player is underpaid, I kind of consider year 4 an opportunity to broach talks of renegotiation (really depend on how underpaid a player is).

That's professional. And neither party is being taken advantage of despite what some of the agenda base media sometimes says.

read they are redoing his contract, looks like he stays a Saint..

I absolutely can. I don't care what line of work you are in. Police Officers, Fire Fighters, Pilots and many other people have more life threatening and dangerous jobs than professional football. Factor in that football players make 10 or 20 times the amount of money that they do, but you don't hear about public servants refusing to honor their contract. If you sign the contract, shut your ******* piehole and play it out. I have zero sympathy for millionaire professional athletes bitching about money and the perils of the job. Don't want to play football? Go find a job in whatever field you went to college for. Didn't earn a degree? Go back and finish it.

Agreed! What about all those military dudes in the Special Forces, SEALS, Rangers, SWCCs, and Combat Controllers? Those dudes jump from airplanes at night into hostile places. Their training would crush most pro athletes. They leave their families for months on end, and you never here them *****. Oh yea, they get shot at! Let me see one of them ***** about their military contract not paying them enough money. Not gonna happen. God bless the American Military.

Most pro athletes just dont know what tough and making a living really truly is IMO.

Nothing happens, trade wise, until after June 1 anyway. Unless, they make a new deal and trade...else, they throw money away for nothing.

Give them Cortez Allen and side order of pierogies for Lewis and a crawfish po´ boy. It´s what we should have done in the first place.

"Hello, this is Kevin Colbert of the Pittsburgh Steelers. We are interested in talking about Keenan Lewis. Do you have an interest in Cortez Allen?"

"HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

"Hello?"

"HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

"Can you stop laughing for a second? This is a serious inquiry."

"HAAAAAA. . . Ok, Ok, sorry about that, but you did say Cortez Allen? HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

yep that would be the outcome

Hey, Cortez has a lot of upside. He´s a perfect replacement for Lewis........or so we all thought. LOL

Sarcasm aside, the FO bet on the wrong horse a few years ago. It´s time to draft a couple of top cover corners early and start from scratch. Forget Lewis, Allen, Taylor, and Robinson, etc. They´re all done. It´s so ironic that Gay is the only guy left on the team worth anything.

The FO has been doing so bad in drafting defense in the past years that I´d only focus the entire draft on getting CBs, OLB, and NT. Might as well play the odds. Get two at each position and we should land a starter with some luck.

Kind of tells you how our current staff has done in the draft. NOT well, o say the least. There have been some very good draftee's, but to many misses along the way. I know what we need in the draft, but a surefire hit is the MOST inportant.

Interesting thing on Lewis is he would be a decent addition to the team depending on some of the other variables like what he does in the locker room (which we don't know). What would we trade that they need and we have extra talent in to give them. I would not trade draft picks as I suspect we are going to begin moving toward the top ten and hanging around there for a couple of years. I doubt they would want one of our corners. Maybe we could move Cam Thomas and another player and get Lewis and a draft pick.

Maybe throw Fu in there also.

Top 10 draft pick for the next few years? Holy moly, that is some world class pessimism right there. What would make you think that? The defense? The defense was **** last year also and they won 11 games. The offense should be great for years to come.

I think Steeler Nation is being a bit harsh on Cortez Allen.

I think he can still be a decent starter in this league and certainly contribute a good season this year to the team. I was very happy when the they signed him long-term (and many here were as well) and I'm not going to Monday Morning QB the money he got and act like I was some clairvoyant about how much he would struggle with penalties and confidence.

I'm curious how he plays this season and I'm not ready to say the contract was a mistake just yet.

you're an idiot.
don't you know that the good ones just step in and perform at high levels, always and forever?

You got some things right, but top 10 draft picks next few years......................that is QUESTIONABLE!!!!...Coarse there is that possible trade up thingy..............

Any guesses as to what happened to him? I thought he would be a decent starter, too. He missed a bunch of games and still led the team in penalties.
