I give him an insentive laden 2 and an option. With a chunk of guarenteed to satisfy him. 2022 is a good chunk of base if he is the Starter. Then if he is something you could sign him after 2022. Too many first round busts. If you let an in house guy walk after next year and he is starter quality that would be a hell of a lot worse than maybe throwing away 5 or 6 million in guarenteed.

If I am Mason I play out my contract and hit the market....unless the Steelers give me an offer I couldn't refuse. He knows Ben will be retiring sooner rather than later so we do have that. I don't see us picking in the top area for a franchise QB anytime soon. He looked like a QB today.

Isn't he still under contract next season still? Let that play out and see what happens.

Most likely he sits for the entire year and hopefully plays the Browns in a meaningless game...Hmmmm.

If he plays next year without an extension you lose all control of him the next season. All you could possibly do is franchise him which would be insane. Give him cash to get a right of first refusal.

You have to give him enough guarenteed to have right of first refusal for 2022.

I'm not ready to give him significant money, I still don't see him as the future. He's a nice backup and he's going to want to go play somewhere that gives him a chance to start.

I know. With what QB's get now you have to offer something. What that is exactly I don't know.

He will be a Steeler next year anyway and most likely there will be a starters void in 2022. This way he starts 2022. If they are terrible next year you can still draft a QB in 2022. Otherwise you have Mason as your 2022 with an option for 2023. You could have a hard time drafting a qb to throw 300 plus yards.

You might get a 4th and a sixth for him. I'd take the picks.

Next year is his 4th year. He wasn't a 1st rounder so we don't get a 5th-year option.

Or transition tag him and match any offers, it's not like teams are going to offer him elite money at this point.

The uncertainty of how much longer Ben is going to play complicates things.

Though I am not yet sold on Rudolph, it would be a disaster if he leaves and ends up becoming a good starter somewhere else for 10 years,

As long as Ben is around, the Steelers are not in the financial position to give Rudolph enough money to stay if another team is willing to give him a chance to start.

If Ben decides to play after 2021, the Steelers would likely just have to let Rudolph go.

Giving somebody like Rudolph any more than backup money is a good way to keep yourself in salary cap trouble.

So a few things

1. I don’t think Randy will be OC next year... if they replace him with Canada or someone else they should make the call on Rudolph
2. The transition tag if it gets that far is a good idea
3. The Steelers had better get better at making a call and signing guys before they hit Ufa...

I think I saw somewhere that the Steelers have scored once on their previous 32 opening drives. That is pathetic and a direct statement on the offensive coordinator.

I’ve seen enough of him and I say pass. Does he have flashes sure, but I’m a hard pass on him

You need a backup anyhow. So just guarentee his money as a backup with incentives if he becomes the starter.

I'm in favor of getting picks for him while you can.

For what? A look? That's all I'm saying. If you let him walk without even a one year look you are stupid. Look how many top end 1st rounders fail. You don't think he is as good as Haskins or Darnold. C'mon.

The only picks you are getting for next year is less than you paid for him. No one is going to install him as a starter next year based on one game. Be realistic.

What? No multiple #1s from Cleveland? Damn.

I’ve seen a look. Did he not start like 8-9 games last year? If he wants $$$$$ I’m a pass. I think Darnold is much better for what I’ve seen of him. But I’m sure he would want more loot. My point is I wouldn’t want to invest too much money into MR

Like if posted in a few other threads, he looks like a solid back up QB, can win games for you if he gets help from the rest of the team.
