Roethlisberger, Steelers Agree to New Contract

Brady has won 8 playoff games and a Super Bowl since the last time Ben won a playoff game, he is in another league than Ben.

Yeah, a league of his own. Where a yellow flag pops out of his butthole everytime that a defensive player breathes close to him. Also a league under no rules against proven cheaters.

So you love Newsome and also Brady. What a lovely troll

Yeah I'm a troll, no just a football fan that knows the game and am not a homer. Knock Brady as a ***** all you want he destroys us, what does that make us ?

I think it makes you a douche.

man we had breakfast for dinner tonight. I love it. grape nuts, sausage and eggs. probably poop funny all night but it was good.

I love breakfast in the evening from time to time. Big ol plate of scrambed eggs and bacon, mmm mmmm gimme

Great to have Ben's deal done.

Now if we could get out of Woodley's dead money era and Kahn can quit employing the philosophy of pushing cap problems to the next year we could balance out before the big money hits in years 3-5 of Ben's deal. The restructuring of the inflated contracts of some players has kept us in this cap hell limbo for years under Kahn and co.

At least we are not paying out franchise QB money to a cheap shot artist/DT that never touches the ball.

I can't believe some are questioning his salary. He is a franchise QB, going into his prime. No PO wins in 4 years, but how is that all on him? He gives it his all every game. Maybe he is not always accurate like Brady, Manning or Rodgers, but he has heart and is a leader of this team. Proof of getting knocked out of the PO game and still coming back in, even when he shouldn't have. Whatever he and the Rooneys agreed to is supposed to be fair for both sides. Ben has the best interest of this team and wants to add more Lombardis in the case. He is capable of delivering, but the FO has to deliver, as well. This is a happy day for Steeler Nation. Can we just celebrate it for 24 hours before condemning it?

Ben is just going into his prime? At the age of 33? Really?

I'd say he's a lot closer to exiting his prime than entering it.

Maybe but he had his best statistical year ever last year. He certainly doesn't show any signs of getting worse any time soon, that's for sure.

when they will release the number of the contract ?

Give me a year better than last year of his statistics. His weapons around him are getting better. The system is getting better around him. I don't see any signs of him breaking down anytime soon. If we can get three more good years from him, then this new deal should be a smart investment.

Roethlisberger is not "better". He's past his peak in the physical/mental marriage (at least according to history).

What is better is the offense. This is the best offense we've had in Pittsburgh arguably since 1979-80. And probably is the best ever in this organization (even when comparing it to the league averages).

That's the horse we are now riding. I'm as critical as anyone on how this organization is run on a personnel level. I don't think we've reached our potential. Too many mistakes have been made (more than I consider acceptable) and too many decisions in the draft frustrate me because the reward doesn't equate to the cost.

That said, a snap shot of this roster, right now, this instant, indicates this whole team should revolve around the offense and trying to score as many damn points as possible. The defense is going to be average at best. And the schedule is formatible (particular considering travel and quarterbacks faced).

Roethlisberger does not travel well. He doesn't do well statistically in other time zones. If we are to do anything more than 8-8 or 9-7 this year he has to do EXACTLY what he did last season except vs. tougher competition and tougher travel.

For those of you who are bitching about Ben's contract numbers, this isn't like Suh getting paid 20 million a season. The Steelers didn't establish this market, they simply paid it. Pay it or watch him walk out the door. Now one can argue that Ben could have taken less and that could have been his prerogative to help win, but that may still happen down the line as it did with Brady and Manning. Top QB's get paid 20 million in this league, that is established. The Steelers had the option to sign him last year, which would not have been substantially less, but he did play in a situation where if he took a catastrophic injury he would have been out a lot of money. And he played at an MVP level according to any reasonable mathematical indicator (only QB top ten in every significant statistic category). If you owned a good house in a good neighborhood you get paid market value. That is what they gave him. it was simple negotations because he didn't put in the ego (make me the richest). Pay me market.
As to the expectation of his play, I wouldn't expect his play to drop off badly for the next three seasons unless he gets the same catastrophic injury he could have got in year 5. In fact he could get better the next two. The cerebral aspect of his game is really coming into its own and the young receivers and running back are only going to get better chemistry.

Ben IS still in his prime. If they can stay healthy on O and add a few players on D, we get at least one more SB before he is done. And, 99 or 108 million is a bargain.

Great contract extension. Ben deserves it.

What would you suggest we do in place of signing Ben?

The team is always in cap Hell anyways. They aren't ever going to spend money on big name free agents either. The man is deserving of a market value contract. Anyone who doesn't think so is ******* insane. Top ten QB's don't just fall out of he sky people.

duh

Ben IS the offense.

Holy kee-rist. You want to put Landry in at QB and see what happens? You think franchise QB's grow on trees?

Disagree. Elway was a Superbowl MVP at 38. Ben's still well in his prime, and the rules to protect QB's are much stronger these days. Elway with his style took quite a beating back then and was still performing in his late 30's.

Elway was still good but not in his physical prime at 38. They won a SB because of a complete team. deljzc is right, Ben is not in his physical/mental prime anymore. Mental prime , yes. That doesn't mean he doesn't deserve big money or that he can't win another SB.
