We have agreed to terms with @_BigBen7 on a new contract. More details to come on http://Steelers.com .

I'm glad. Always cheered for the guy and team through the good and the bad. Now onto the rest of the off season

Good for Ben and good for us as well. At least we have our best player and franchise QB locked up now until he retires.

In other news the sky is blue... knew it was coming, just a matter of how much and how long... well with that done they can actually start rebuilding the d now...

6 years, $130 million would be about right. Basically, a 5 year extension. He will get $20 plus million per year.

It'll be a nice cap friendly deal in an attempt to get him one more Ring. I hope. Steelers need to draft some defensive players.

Hopefully it provides some cap relief this year and next before his cap hit becomes a monster.

Watching the news conference ARII says the deal is a 5 year deal starting this year. So, a 4 year extension on top of this year.

That would be market value. That would mean throwing out the discount that was mentioned.

Yes and no. Ben's contract does match the top QB's but remember those contracts were put in place when the salary cap was substantially lower.

Only 5 years so 4 year extension. A little surprised at that as it will make the cap hits higher. Need hear the numbers now.

I do feel better about this. I thought a 6-year extension was a tad too long, but this is about right. Also, he stated that the contract will not hamper the team to keep building a winner.

Ben is 33. So, he'll be 38 when he hopefully retires and still be near the top of his game. Looks like Manning and Brady are both going to play past 40.

6 years and 130 million sounds like a deal that will bury the team. At 20 million a year I do not see how they will field a team around Ben. It sounds like the 80s all over again except we will have a franchise qb for part of it and then be unable to sign anyone to catch or run with the ball, let alone field a defense. Now if what I thought I saw earlier was correct the cap is 142 mill or something close, Pouncey is making 10 million and Ben 20 so in two players we have 30 million of a 140 million cap, not to mention the dead money hit we will see in the last 1 to 3 years of that contract if Ben gets hurt and can't play anymore.

That if true sounds like more horrible cap management if my other numbers are close. That would still mean we would have 51 more players to get under 110 million and some of those are not cheap, how many guys to we have being paid more than 2 million.

I bet Manning is done after this year, if he makes through the whole year that is. Brady will keep cheating as long as his arm lets him.
