Breaking news !!!!!

Butler is gonna be named DC as early as tomorrow...just read a new source (wont reveal it but yall know whom it is......)
Info just released the last 20 mins. Tomlin and FO are working out contract details before it becomes official

I find it funny that if you wanted Dick to go you must be.....well put what ever you want in there. I think everyone appreciate's what he did for us but every good thing has to come to an end sooner or later. Dick stepped down for Butler. I think that speaks volumes of how Dick feels for Butler.Hopefully Butler can turn it around.

Really ? Everytime a great QB faced us the last few years he shredded us,Brees, Brady, Manning ,Rodgers and Luck among others.

so was that scheme or the fact that the only corner on the team drafted in the top 4 rounds the last two years was 4th rounder ike taylor who was taken in 02? and 3rd rounder keenen lewis was the only pick that high all the way back to the cowher days of second rounders McFadden and Colclough... and for a first, you have to go 18 years ago to Chad Scott....

That did get us to 3 SB's. Bengals had 5 former !st rd CB's this year and a 3rd rd QB-how did that work? And Seahawks have no 1st rd CB's. Depends on who they are not where they're picked.

I believe this is yet ANOTHER case of the team being forced to make the correct moves.

On ESPN it was reported that...

1.) The team was surprised by Dick's resignation, and that...

2.) The team will have a new look on D.

Does that mean that they informed Dick they wanted a new D scheme and he threw a hissy fit and quit? It's starting to look that way.

Dick said the right things, but you can clearly see he is upset about something. There is no question.

I for one am thrilled he is leaving and we are trying something different for once. Maybe it won't take 3 years to get a player ready for whatever new scheme they are going with.

I find all of this to be good news. Look how Dallas improved when they got the super old DC out and a new guy in, and they were historically bad on D last year and
became respectable this year.

Now we don't have to hear, every game, how Dick is ageless and a genius. That sh-t was beyond old.
first off, please understand that anyone who ***** on Dick LeBeau is a piece of ****.

secondly, a breath of fresh air may be needed, as our defense did begin to seem predictable. this could either be because Dick's scheme was difficult or we didnt have the exact players to run it... or a combination. At which point, it could be that Dick made it clear he needs help on the defensive side in the draft. Maybe even pointed out whom we needed...or even suggested we bring back certain player(s). We don't know and will not know. DLB will not come right out and say and the FO will not either.
Tombert probably told him that 5 and 10 yard cushion finally had to go.

Great points on the poor drafting of the DBs. I was responding to the stupid poster who said the only team to figure out our defense was the cheaters.
The Pats* weren't the only team to figure out our defense, they were just the first. Other teams with accurate QB's copied it. DLB was something like 2-whatever beating Belicheat and Brady. It got to where when you saw the Pats* on the schedule you just knew an ***-raping was coming.

when we had taLent, the Pats didn't even do that great vs us, in 04 and 05, Brady had 2TD's and 3INTs combined in those two games, we killed Manning in the 05 playoffs, held him to 240 yards in 08, once our talent started to leave/age we were getting picked apart more often. . We held the highest scoring team in the nfl to 10 points in super bowl XL.
Those guys are HOF guys that beat on most defenses they face.

True, but the Pats lost to Mark Sanchez in the playoffs

Mark Sanchez has good numbers in the playoffs and he did something we couldn't and that's beat the pats.

Make no mistake the spread and spread option, using tight ends as wideouts multiple receiver sets tight or spread, stretch zone running games you nameit, the offenses have radically changed ours included. Lebeau was hard pressed to compensate. Last year the 3satety 3 db formations that did squat did it for me. Seattles approach based on old the steel curtain is to put 8 men in the box and make the offense deal with it. To the qb looks like an easy throw the fact is the defense easily morphs into 7 men back. So you try to run and you run into the teeth of the d. You throw your looking a 7 guys. It's not rocket science like coach lebeau likes to make it. You have to win the line of scrimmage and you won't do it with one downline man. Don't see it didn't see it. But what I did see was what Ben did if the other team couldn't get a pass rush on him. Teams like the colts.

For the record, and per Bouchette, Tomlin had more say in the defense this past season than seasons past.
It still comes down your guy winning a one on one battle, you're not going to get very many free runs at the qb, so no matter what offense they run, or defense we run, we still need guys to win one on one battles, whether it's a front seven beating a block or a guy in the secondary covering someone and knocking a pass away. We did neither very well last season.

When someone has such an unintelligent thought, one must consider not saying anything to begin with. Better to stay quiet and be assumed the fool instead of opening your mouth and removing all doubt. Do you have anything intelligent EVER to say, ever?

Oh, the irony........

I'm not sure how to read into Tomlin allegedly taking on a bigger direct role in the defense, given it was the worst Steelers pass defense in memory.

I dont get this. you were tired of hearing how YOUR def coord. is a genius? what the **** would you want people to say about him.???
Dick will be missed in Pittsburgh next year. he has been taken for granted here

If DL goes to Az...which defense you think will be better next year ? I'm saying Az..

Bouchette was just on the fan at 1pm, not sure if it's on their website or not, but that's where he said that.

Weren't they already better this year?

Meh they were really good in points allowed, but everything else they were worse or basically the same than us in... I mean they had 4 more turnovers than us, and 2 more sacks but that isn't much in the grand scheme of things... they had more key plays but a lot of that was luck... they had a few real long sacks that saved them points at key moments and a few super key turnovers, but I never got the feel they were any good defensively.... that point thing was more from opponent ineptitude than anything they did...

Pass rush was even worse than last year and we had to depend on guys like Harrison and Keisel to step in ahead of other guys on the roster. Definitely hard to read.

As mentioned elsewhere, will the "new look" include the DB's giving a 10 yard cushion on 3rd and 5?

is getting a helmet and playing D next year

Yep. They are going to tighten it up from the 15 they have been giving.......

depends - will we get any CB's good enough to play press coverage one on one?

it's more about the players than any scheme

I've never been convinced that "10 yd cushion" was as uncommon around the league as some make it or for that matter would hold up as well to real scrutiny as the "Tomlin has a terrible challenge record" did. Doesn't seem like you could have LeBeau's record if you always gave up 3rd and 5.
