Report: NFL Owners Suggested 18-Game Schedule With 16-Game Limit for Players

16 game limit for each player? 2 weeks of backups playing?
 
An 18 game NFL season?

I Its being talked about again. Kill two pre-season games, and play to regular-season games.


The pro is more football, a higher cap for the players, and a likely expansion of rosters.


The con is the toll on the players and shorter careers. Teams would be limping into the playoffs.




I'd rather see this as the compromise.




3 pre-season games, the first being all rookies and 1st-year players only.


A 17 regular season with two bye weeks, meaning they broadcast 19 regular-season games instead of the 17 they do now. I think the player could use an extra bye week

8 games at home
8 games on the road.
With the " 17th " being an international game or other city game in the USA that does not have an NFL team that is followed up by one of the bye weeks.


Roster expanded to 60 players, with all of them dressing.
Practice squad to remain the same size.
 
Yeah, I hope this 18 game talk is a negotiating ploy for the next CBA. No expanded regular season or playoffs.
 
If it is expanded Coach does touch on a couple positives. I think international games should be eliminated. I like the expanded roster and dual bye weeks.

The ONLY thing I suspect is somehow the CHEATRIOTS will always get the best bye weeks........


Bottom line is the NEW CBA will be negotiated in this regards of adding games. Be prepared as that negotiation will lead to a strike season and it may be very devastating to the NFL as a whole. I have a feeling the players association and the owners representation are all ready working on some negotiating points as we speak. Neither side wants a strike.

Can you fill Coolie in, pretty please? The labor contract is up in 2020.
 
I don't think it would be a good idea to lose 2 preseason games. Teams need those to evaluate players. Maybe cut 1and do 17 regular season games, but like Coolie said, **** the international games. I absolutely hate them.

I'm for three with one being an all rookie 1st year player game. The coaches pretty much know who the best 45 players are after 2 weeks worth of practices. Its the 46th to 53rd man that battle for it during the 4 pre-season games. The first pre-season game is a joke, and the 4th one, well you have to be a fan to watch it.

If the NFL wanted too, they could have 2 pre-season games. The owners make $$ in the pre-seaosn games, the players do not get game checks. Expand the roster to 60 and there would be much worry over who was cut.

I don't care if other countries love the games. The teams home fans love the games also, and they should not lose a game so the NFL can make more money for that game elsewhere.

I listen to some local sports talk and this has not been discussed....National shows typically suck ***.

Pretty sure Coolie already knows.....and just for clarity the CBA is not up in 2020. It expires at the end of the 2020 season, which is February 2021. Not that you wouldn’t admit your were wrong.

No preseason games are a joke they all serve a purpose. But I know not your want.

They have changed enough ****, just leave the game alone..
 
From what I read, they were considering a compromise in that the season would expand by 2 games to 18 but the players would only be allowed to play 16. That would possibly mean an expansion to the roster count of some kind or make a couple games a year look pretty boring.

If ya ax me, it's all posturing right now. The preposterous initial bids before the serious negotiations ..so to speak.
 
18 / 16 a virtual nightmare accounting accountability problem. The league manipulates enough **** the way it is and this would just add another. As for logistics / bye week or weeks / home vs international / roster limits / game day active(s) ///// all a part of jockeying for negotiations placement. The NFL is sniffing $$$money$$$ and like a shark will not let it go so brace and be ready. I see the ONLY real question is when they implement it. I think it will be in the new CBA deal and implemented immediately forthwith

I think the owners want 18 regular / 2 pre-season, but I think the compromise will be 17 regular / 3 pre-season.
I think an additional bye week will be implemented so players aren't on a "pitch count".
I think this will be achieved by players getting more money/better pension/better healthcare/etc.
I do not think they will get guaranteed contracts.
But if they do, it'll be at the expense of having a max contract/ceiling/cap, which the greedy players would balk, not to mention, no longer getting upfront signing bonuses.
The selfish divas of the NFL would never.

4 games then a bye week for everyone.
8 games, then a bye week for everyone. First three are all divisional games.
4 games. Last 3 are divisional games.

Ditch Thursday night games.

Bye week 1. Have those skills competitons they used to have. Qbs throwing at moving targets for points. Kicker competition. No races or anything that might cause hamstring or knee issues, though. NFL community outreach BS that they live so much.

Bye week 2. NFL community outreach stuff.

All games played at 1 PM local time and on Sundays only. Scrap the international games.
