Report: Aaron Rodgers Is At Steelers Facility On Friday

AR2 took over in 03, but Dan still assisted with day to day stuff as needed and big decisions for several years... During Dan's run, when a guy left, he was gone... replaced by a younger guy they developed... under AR2, they brought back many a free agent who left for greener pastures for a second stint here... it really signaled the deemphasis on development...
Chicken or the egg? Do the Steelers not develop players because they prefer vet FA's or do they sign vet FA's because they can't develop players?
(I think we know the answer to that.)

Problem there is Tomlin constantly hand-cuffs the offense, he did it with Ben too, he'll do it with Rodgers as well. I won't even get started on what happens to his defenses.

I used to be the same way, optimistic every year could be our year, but the more I've watched Tomlin the more and more you can see his shortcomings and warts, and they are plenty.
Yeah but we get the annual Tomlinship Parade down Grant Street after the 9th win.

I think the whole developing of players is a misnomer. There may be some, but over the years state a player that left the Steelers and flourished elsewhere. We don't like it, but Tomlin has a point in that a player either has it or he doesn't. The ones that make it and really contribute have some special quality or trait that cannot be coached.

I’m having a hard time thinking of any player who has improved and “flourished” here.

Antonio Brown? Or again, did he just have something special? I guess I don't like the term "developed." Imo, coaches don't develop players at the NFL level. They have to have something special to stick. Help them grow and mature as players? Yes. Maybe I'm picking fly shiit out of pepper here, but still.

Yes... but this actually started as Dan Rooney phased out... Dan really was the heart of the steelers winning... because he was all about long term... build through the draft, but develop guys so there is always a replacement waiting in the wings

So for instance, a guy like Trice... he would have likely been penciled in as a starter in the old regime.. it may have worked or not, but we wouldn't have been cycling through the ancient vet of the season at CB ... or that year we brought in Trubisky over Rudolph that wouldn't have happened... because Dan understood that you win when you have cheap young stars supplementing your expensive stars... the way you find cheap young talent is by developing guys and giving them a shot and living through the growing pains...

We are back to Art Sr's era of looking for retreads

... didnt work then... isnt working now
An owner that on the surface doesn't seem overly concerned with championships as a goal. Add to that no one standing out as far as scouting, player development or coaching abilities, and this is where the team finds itself. Apparently, they're OK with that.
It's only the fanbase that believes this team, management wise, needs a reset.

I remember when Dan spoke out saying it was time for the Steelers to win another Lombardi, they won 2 after he said that. That's where his focus was and he reached it with Cowher. Now flash forward to Art II, he doesn't think in those terms, 1 game over .500 is good enough.

Durpee had one good season while he was here. He improved every year showing development as per the topic.

Kenny Pickett, Dri Archer, Senquez Golson, Jarvis Jones, Artie Burns, and Kendrick Greene say Hi. Sure, there are failures as well, more fail in this league than succeed. The only point is Pittsburgh has developed some players in Tomlins tenure. Jalen Warren can be looked at as a success among some other undrafted and late round guys.

Oh it is known khaleesi. But that was not the question

I still maintain that Shades' best players were already good when they got here.

I agree with this. We went from developing guys to trying to buy a team. We are lacking continuity and team chemistry
Very true. So why on June 3, 2025 is the organization ( whoever that is) monkeying around trying to sign a nearly a 42 year old QB who suffered a serious leg injury within the last 2 years as the potential starting QB?

It is simply embarrassing to be a Stiller fan at this point!

Most of us are just watching with amusement to see how bad it gets.

nah, I dont think so.

Here’s a thought………..

Even in the Pre-Superbowl era, the Steelers made bone-headed moves from top to bottom. Owners / coaches / GMs /even players did sh-it laughable.

One thing was know for certain, when you played the STEELERS, you were in for a very physical beating / game, win or lose. That physicality carried over through Coach Cowher’s tenure.

Today’s team is SOFT, from the top down, outright soft. Other teams come to town and push us around, when was the last time you saw a Steeler start a fight or mouth off openly to an opponent?

When was the last time our coach (cowher) ran down a ref and stuck a pic in his pocket, but instead a coach (Tomlin) running out of the way of a opposing kick returner…….

How about an owner standing up for his team, telling Godell to **** off when they scheduled the covid debacle 3 games. (Baltimore did it), said they wouldn’t play with sick players out).

Just to repeat, this team is soft from top to bottom and that’s partly from no accountability from the top on down.

Salute the nation
