British charge Muslim man in plot against U.S. military, trying to join ISIS

British Authorities charged two Muslim relatives on Tuesday with terror-related offenses, including plotting an attack against U.S. military personnel in the UK and planning to go to the Middle East to join ISIS.

Junead Ahmed Khan, 24, is accused of trying to plan an attack sometime between May 10 and July 14, officials said. Khan and his uncle, 22-year-old Shazib Ahmed Khan, have also been charged with planning to travel to Syria to join ISIS, according to a statement from the Crown Prosecution Service.

I'm no islam terrorist apologist and see them as a real threat, in the US and around the world. I also think they should be fought tooth and nail until they've been diminished. But in the midst of all the hysteria, I'd like to mention a few facts:

- Islamic terrorism "doesn’t even count for 1 percent” of the 180,000 murders in the US since 9/11.
- similarily, less than 1% of terror attacks in Europe were carried out by Muslims

And looking specifically at terrorist acts on US soil (not just the overall murder numbers) you may be surprised to read this:

We counted attacks by Al Qaeda, the Taliban, Black American Moslems, or anyone who even remotely sounded Muslim … for example anyone from Palestine, Lebanon or any other Arab or Muslim country, or any name including anything sounding remotely Arabic or Indonesian (like “Al” anything or “Jamaat” anything).

If we weren’t sure what the person’s affiliation was, we looked up the name of the group to determine whether it could in any way be connected to Muslims.

Based on our review of the approximately 2,400 terrorist attacks on U.S. soil contained within the START database, we determined that approximately 60 were carried out by Muslims.

In other words, approximately 2.5% of all terrorist attacks on U.S. soil between 1970 and 2012 were carried out by Muslims. This is a tiny proportion of all attacks.

We determined that approximately 118 of the terror attacks – or 4.9% – were carried out by Jewish groups such as Jewish Armed Resistance, the Jewish Defense League, Jewish Action Movement, United Jewish Underground and Thunder of Zion. This is almost twice the percentage of Islamic attacks within the United States.

If we look at worldwide attacks – instead of just attacks on U.S. soil – Sunni Muslims are the main perpetrators of terrorism. However: 1. Muslims are also the main victims of terror attacks worldwide; and 2. the U.S. backs the most radical types of Sunnis over more moderate Muslims and Arab secularists.

Yeah, it was a total reaction to public outrage. If not for the public outrage, and people like Trump calling him out, he never would have lowered them. He loathes America and our military. If the shooter were still alive Obama would give the terrorist a medal.

A DAY ago? People were upset LAST WEEK when it happened. Are you that obtuse? Local businesses all across the US were lowering their flags. The Chick Fil A here in Derby did it- the manager decided on his own. The flags were lowered for the Ft. Hood massacre (as they should have been), but not for this. Please take off your blinders for a moment and understand that Obama only lowered the flag because Americans got upset. It isn't a right wing or left wing thing. It's an AMERICAN RESPECT thing.

Servicemen killed in unprovoked murder? I'm thinking protocol in an administration that wasn't anti military and anti American would say immediately. First ******* thing I do on hearing about it. US Could Have Prevented Rise of ISIS

U.S. Army Chief of Staff Gen. Ray Odierno, in an exclusive interview with Fox News weeks away from his retirement, said the United States military could have prevented the rise of the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL) group.

“It’s frustrating to watch it,” said Gen. Odierno, referring to the rise of ISIS in Iraq and Syria. “I go back to the work we did in 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 and we got it to a place that was really good. Violence was low, the economy was growing, politics looked like it was heading in the right direction.”

“If we had stayed a little more engaged, I think maybe it might have been prevented,” he added, highlighting concerns about U.S. troop withdrawal pace in Iraq. “I’ve always believed the United States played the role of honest broker between all the groups and when we pulled ourselves out, we lost that role.”

Hindsight is 20/20. I think George W. Bush and his administration had their reasons to make that decision. Not sure why some are criticizing him at this point, this far down the line. But if people want to be pissed off at Bush for making that call, I understand.
