Steelers should have won this game easily. They pretty much spotted the Ravens 10 points. Why would they go willdcat backed up on their goal and have Samuels throw it? That was insane. The ravens pretty much run wildcat every single play with Jackson. You think their defense doesn't know how to defend it?
Johnnie Holton is useless. He does not play to his speed at all. He has bad acceleration and doesn't seem very agile. He's not good at special teams and the only way he's making a big play is if the DB falls down. He doesn't track the ball in the air and can't make a contested catch.
Bring back Moncrief. It's not like he killed somebody. They need a deep threat and Holton isn't it. Use Moncrief because at least he MIGHT make a play unlike Holton.
Tuitt needs to be signed to an extension because he's a beast.
This defense is finally showing signs of becoming great. Tuitt is a big part of that as is Nelson and Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick really may be the steadying force they needed to make this come together.
They need to do more from under center. Or at least from the Pistol. It is clear that Conner is a much better runner when he can take the handoff whiole he's on the move. These sidecar handoffs from a standstill reduce his effectiveness big time.
More plays from under center will open up a lot more play action options.
The Ravens may be screwed. If Jefferson misses significant time, that defense that is already struggling could fall apart. If they can't play with a lead or a close score then their offense falls apart.
The Bush INT was the correct call. It was the call on the field and there was not enough to overturn. By rule, the ball is allowed top touch the ground so long as the ball was controlled before and after contact. It was. Some say it wasn't controlled before it hit but that ball slammed into the ground hard. If Bush didn't have a grip on it, then it would have bounced right out of his hands. Instead, it stayed glued to his bicep. He must have had control before it hit. In any case, there was no clear evidence to overturn that. It was right to stay with the call on the field.
Kicking off in OT was absolutely the right call. Fatigue was not a factor. The defense still looked fresh even at the end of the 4th quarter. The risk of kicking is the offense scores a TD and you never touch the ball. I say that was a very small probability that the Ravens drive the ball 80 yards for a TD. Jackson was struggling and the steeler defense was all over him.
The biggest risk was getting the kickoff, going 3 and out with your 3rd string QB, Balt gets a short field and Tucker nails the game winner.
The best chance to win was to kick, get the stop then only have to make a short drive for a game winning FG. It was playing out exactly that way until the JuJu fumble.
Playing with House Money - let's face it, the season is probably done in terms of playoffs. This defense is really getting good so now is the time to take more chances on offense. By chances i mean letting Devlin and Rudolph attack the defense, not a bunch of gadget plays.
By the end of the season, you need to know if Rudolph is your potential Ben replacement.
Having said that, i still think the steelers can win this division. I don't think the ravens are very good and the Browns will be erratic. 9 wins could take this division and that could happen if Rudolph/Devlin play at a decent level. Steelers could be able to grind out wins on defense.
I had a strange premonition. Mike Tomlin gets this team to 8 or 9 wins and is named coach of the year for winning with backup QBs
Sound crazy? Look at the schedule and show me the great team that they can't beat. Rams defense appears to have fallen apart so that's win-able. 10 points could be enough to beat the Bills and Jets. The Chargers have a ton of injuries.
It's all on the QBs now. If they can beat the Chargers, this season still has a pulse.
