PSU vs Iowa

This might be the worst officiated game I've ever seen.
You ain't kiddin'! PSU hurtin' themselves though by not being able to get 6 in the redzone. TOP, total yardage, first downs - all the stats in PSUs favor - need some TDs tho

Yeah, those two FG should have been TDs. But that McSorley fumble wasn't and that was a good pick by 15. Those are two game changing bad calls. Two good plays by Iowa and 5 god awful calls by the refs are the only reason Iowa is in it.

Wow amazing game.... until the last TD the offense had 13 points on 578 yards yikes....Barkley is amazing and that last throw was special

Barkley is the best player in college football. 211 rushing and 12 receptions for 94 yards. Iowa was all over him. Most of his yards he created himself by breaking tackles or making people miss or just outrunning guys.

Watched the game at a PSU bar down here in Dallas.. I still don't think I've taken a proper breath in the past hour

Hope his ankle is ok. I know it is early but the highlight reel of him tonight has to make him the front runner for the Heisman.

And McSorely was born to be a winner.

This was, in my mind, McSorley's worst game as a starter. But he made a money throw when it counted most. T he PSU play calling on offense was atrocious for the most part. Officiating was pretty bad too.

Barkley is easily the best player in CFB. Fun to watch. Dude is sick.

I think their rules expert had money on Iowa and so did the refs.

They overturned that INT for Haley. Maybe it hit the ground, MAYBE. But no angle showed conclusively that it did. Haley's hand was under the ball in every angle and there was no view that actually showed it hit the ground. The ball moved? So what if his hands are under the ball.

The McSorley fumble should have been incomplete. They showed the Iowa guy hit that ball and McSorley maintained control and then he still had control when his arms started moving forward.

Double standard all night on holding and pass interference. PSU got called for multiple pass interference calls and most were bogus. That deep shot was ridiculous. PSU DB #1 Campbell played it perfectly, had inside position, lokked back for the ball and the ball was not catchable anyway.

Meanwhile the Iowa DBs were grabbing the PSU WRs all game with no calls. Same with holding. Penn State got flagged multiple times, but none for Iowa. Wadley had a big run up the gut where the Center was 10 yards downfield with an obvious hold. It was the key block of the run and nothing.

Iowa played a great game on defense but it was penalties that kept this game close.

This could ultimately be good. This type of tough, grind it out win is the type of game that prepares teams to win championships.

One last thing. Did it seem like every guy on Iowa's defense was like 8 feet tall? Penn State WT #84 Johnson is 6'4 and it looked like evey Iowa DB was nearly his height. Nevermind their goon linemen who all seems to have arms that scraped the ground.

Tape, there arms weren't long enough for that last one:smile-new:. I'd love to know who he was throwing that last one to. both receivers could of caught it

This was the "almost upset" weekend.

The only real upset was 16 TCU over 6 Oklahoma State. The surprise was not a TCU win, but how they dominated. Probably knocked Mason Rudolph out of the Heisman race.

Tons of close calls

5 USC was losing to Cal for a long portion and only put them away late

14 Miami was losing to Toledo at half and it was 38-30 midway in the 4th before they pulled away

2 Clemson was tied 7-7 with Boston College into the 3rd.

8 Michigan trailed at half and was only up 14-10 in the 4th.

3 Oklahoma needed a late TD to beat winless Baylor

25 LSU was only winning 28-26 vs Syracuse late in the 4th

20 Florida beat Kentucky by 1 in a game they should have lost.

Having watched the USC/Cal game and last weeks Texas/USC. I think Sam Darnold should stay in school after this year. I just don't see it,he make some really bad decisions with the ball.

Yeah, definitely a double standard especially for PI. I could live with most the bad calls but the pick that was reversed was awful and then the throw they called a fumble was asinine.

A wins a win and the team can really build on this. Knowing everything and everyone besides that team was against them and they still came out on top. That drive at the end of the game is the second best drive I've ever seen. McSorley is a gamer.

And yet he beat out Max Browne after three games as a freshman.

Watley's last TD reminded my of Larry Fitzgerald's TD in the Super Bowl. In both situations, once i saw they broke a big gain, i actually wanted them to score a TD so the offense could get the ball back with as much time as possible.

Yep, exactly. Right before that play I said Franklin might be better off letting them score a TD rather than leaving it up to special teams to block a FG or get lucky and their kicker misses. Then the TD happened and I was like ok Penn State show the world what you are made of. And they did.

what an exciting and heart-breaking game(as an Iowa fan). Barkley and McSorley are great players and will lead the Lions to the NCAA Championship. They have the "will not lose mentality". The officiating was horrible. PSU got some bad calls for PI when the Iowa player was holding their arm. NCAA is not immune to bad officials, too. Really good game on a late night Saturday between two proud schools.

Great finish. Barkley is easily the best player in college football and if he stays healthy will be a top 5 pick in the draft. McSorley made a lot of bad decisions that kept Iowa in the game. 1 interception, 1 fumble (that should have been reviewed), 6 batted down balls and several misses of wide open WR's made it a bad night for him. Plus, when they get inside the 3, hand it to Barkley 3 times and let him punch it in. I still have am not sure if Iowa's D was playing that good last night that no WR's could get open or if McSorley was just that bad. His stats don't look bad but he couldn't find Gesicki or most of his WR's most of the game. That was the worst I have seen him look, at least until the final drive. Then he came alive.

The overturned interception was bogus. There was no video evidence to overturn that and then they don't review the "fumble" when McSorley's arm was going forward. There were a string of terrible calls/no calls in the 2nd half that put Iowa right back in the game when Penn State was starting to pull away. The NCAA needs to review how bad the officiating was.

That was a classic game of letting the home team hang around like the Steelers have a habit of doing. One play and they have all the momentum going into half and it is a game even though Penn State was dominating.

All in all, a big win for Penn State that should take them to the Michigan game at home sitting at 6-0. Beat Michigan at home and the Ohio State on the road and they will have an inside track to the playoffs if they take care of business in their final 4 games. That's a long way off but the team certainly learned how to win a tough game on the road against a good team last night.

On the PI call against Campbell, the WR was holding Campbell's arm, and Campbell got called? Unreal.

As far as Barkley, he is a generational talent. My goodness, that guy is amazing. As I said before, I would move Bell for the #1 pick if I could, and grab Barkley in the draft. Bell is an excellent back, but Barkley is better. Put him in the right situation and he will break records.
