Pouncey needs surgery

I suspect ligament and/or tendon injuries prolong recovery with this type of injury.

true if there is one.... only thing I heard so far is a break.... hoping that is the worst of it

With Hubbard with soso play out of the gates. maybe it is time to find a C / G that can be a possible upgrade and a backup to Wallace while Pouncey is on the mend. In result letting Hubbard walk the pavement.........

Maurkice Pouncey - C - Steelers

Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey is expected to miss half of the 2015 season after fracturing his ankle in Sunday's preseason game.
This makes Pouncey a candidate for injured reserve/designated for return. Pouncey broke his left ankle in Sunday's exhibition game against the Packers. The Steelers will turn to journeyman Cody Wallace at center in the meantime. Pouncey is not one of the best centers in the league, but he's an above-average starter and the pivot for an offensive line that returned all five components from last season. Pouncey's loss is a concern for the efficiency of Pittsburgh's running game.

Man did we ever over pay that guy. I hated the signing and this is why. He's more hype than substance and can't stay healthy.

Evan Mathis left Seattle with no contact. Think he could play center or if Foster could? I know Mathis wants to get paid but maybe a one year deal worth big money gets him in.

Batch is saying on the postgame show that Gradkowski might have broken a finger on his left hand.

And he added that it was caused in part by a bad snap by Hubbard.

Great.

The Steeler offense sure knows how to take out Pouncey...

Really? That's news to me.
Yes, I thought that was kind of harsh...but it's probably viewed that way around the league. Where he - and maybe the Steelers - think he's top of the line, yet he may be considered more a solid B+ player in other circles...

So we need:

1. C/G help on the inside
2. a back-up caliber QB for Gradkowski/Jones

Mr. Colbert, you may now enter your office and begin working the phones.

Still need DE depth as well.

A few of you are some of the worst fans I've ever seen. How the **** is this Pouncey's fault? How was it his fault in 2010. How was it his fault when DeCastro dove into him. To say that he shouldn't be a Steeler and shouldn't be payed because of some unfortunate injuries that were completely out of his control is ignorant and honestly just hateful. You should be hoping for a full recovery soon and be ready to root for him when he comes back. These type of responses when guys get hurt just make me sick.

Honestly the DE is way more worrisome then center. They have nothing behind either one and to ask both to make it through the season is a lot. Cody Wallace can play well enough. I said from jump street they were too thin at DE.

I always thought a break was 6 to 8 weeks...

(if it is a break)

Probably has ligament damage with the break as well.

Tough luck. Hope he can come back from this to 100%.

Absolutely, some guys who get injured a lot are just soft. Some have bad luck. Pouncey falls under the second. He is just a magnet. It isn't his fault.

Injury is never the players fault. No player is trying to get hurt. Even Nelson getting injured wasn't his fault. Just a bad break.

Some players are injury prone but even they aren't trying to get hurt.

You guys might be right, but I think LT Walton is further along than most rookies that have come in on dline. There's also Cam Thomas, who I know is nobody's favorite, but has supposedly shown improvement and may be serviceable. And finally, you can move McLendon outside if you have to, and plug in Shade Tree McCullers at DT. So at this point, we do have more there than at C and QB, in my book. Having said that, I'd be more than happy if they bring in some reinforcements on the d-line when the cuts start flying around the league.

Agreed Vader, but some guys are far more durable than others and some have low pain thresholds. You can't tell me that a guy like Ward wasn't more of a gamer than some guys. And when you have that continuum some just aren't as sturdy But when you break a bone that is completely different. I'd say Nelson goes back somewhat to what I said about over training and ligament damage. That shouldn't have happened.

No it isn't.

The defense was going to blow no matter who plays DE

The offense we needed at 100% and firing on all cylinders right from the start to score 35+ points a game every week

Hope you are right MClendon has put on a lot of bulk to play NT. Can he really play DE?

Pouncey's strength might just be reason for his bad luck with severe leg injures.

His ability to snap the ball and get to the next level, seems to be where his injuries occur. You see it so often, linemen or wide-outs blocking downfield only to get their legs rolled up from behind.

It sucks...but its part of the game..

Don't be surprise to see a deal for a vet center next week, although. I do like Wallace and feel comfortable with him in the line-up

As for the DE depth with Tuitt out, I would expect to see more of McClendon at DE, which means more PT for Big Dan at nose.

To me there is a difference between an "injury" and a boo boo. Some guys are soft. Shazier got that rap some last year. Some guys just can't stay healthy because of real injuries. Pouncey is just in the wrong spot at the wrong time. There is nothing physically wrong with him that is allowing him to be hurt.
