Polamalu retires after 12 years

I guess we all sort of expected this. As sad as it is I'm glad Troy decided to retire a Steeler and not ride off into the sunset on another team.

Troy is one of the greats and a personal favorite of mine. I'll never forget the first time seeing the kid play live, he played so fast. Television did his play no justice but to see him fly all around the field was nothing short of spectacular.

I can't say it enough thanks to Troy for leaving it all on the field and making Steeler Nation proud on Sundays. Truly a Steeler great!

Thanks for the great memories Troy, like the pick six in the AFC Championship game against Baltimore. Really nice guy too according to my journalist niece who interviewed him. We'll miss you roaming the secondary!

Wexell on WDVE this am. Troy not bitter with Steelers organization, but don't expect to see him at Steeler alumni events.

One of the top Steelers ever and one of the best, if not THE best, to play his position. Everybody has to retire some time though. It was time.

One of the best Steelers. Thank you 43.

I read this morning he made his final decision over Easter -- he realized he couldn't keep up with his kids anymore (much less NFL athletes). Somehow I doubt there will be much bad blood split here, Steelers aren't going afer signing bonus money as would be their contractual right.

It's life...it simply was just time. Be thankful we had Troy for the time we did, cuz there won't be another #43.

None of those guys except for Harrison has even a prayer of getting in the HOF, and even Harrison's a longshot.

Agreed.

Maybe if Harrison became starter in 2005 over Haggans and there were no excursion to Cincy.....than we'd be seeing him get nominated.

Ironic for a Defense that was #1 in the NFL 6 times and in the top 10 for 13 straight years will only have 1 Hall of Famer.

I am glad he is retiring. I hate seeing once great athletes soil a great legacy by staying too long. I will miss watching him play.

I'm with you in that regard.

Will Allen was clearly the better player last year, and it was sad to see.

I'd probably place Polamalu on the Steelers Mount Rushmore, along with Greene, Lambert and Bradshaw.

I hope he has a great and healthy life post football.

My favorite Steeler of all time

I will forever rock my #43 jersey on game days. Salute to the great Troy Polamalu - he'll be missed on the field but I have a feeling the rest of his life will be even greater than his career on the field

I won't forget a) being at the game that was really Troy's coming out party...against the Bengals in 2004 where he clinched the game by running over Carson Palmer (also Ben's first home start) b) the 2008 AFC Championship game...Troy made sure we wouldn't lose another one at home...not just the pick 6 but also an awesome stuff of Flacco on a 4th and 1 QB sneak attempt.

One of my all time favorite players and a class act until the end. Some of the things he could do on a football field will likely never be repeated and I don't think anyone we draft can "fill his shoes" they will just have to do the best they can.

He was my favorite player on the current Steelers. He's a great player but he's an even better guy. It's not going to be the same watching the Steelers on a fall or winter day and not seeing 43 back there. Good luck in retirement Troy and thanks so much for the memories you gave us all.

Always be one of the best Steelers to play the game. We all I have our favorite moment, mind intercepting Flaco and running foe the TD. My wife's at training camp Troy signing her ball, as he was taking off in the cart and throwing the ball in the air back to her, watching her run after the ball was something else....did I forget to mention at age 67. Thanks Troy for all the great memories and the best to you and your family after football.

Troy was Head and Shoulders above the rest. End of an era. #43 Open the doors to Canton.

What a Great Career and what a Great Person.

Lucky us
Face palm, great player, class act all the way around also liked his quote about catching his kids, or not being able to. Karma for the hair reference.

Oh yeah!! How could I forget the crowd surfing at the parade? I was not too far away from that. Great moment!

Best wishes in your future pursuits Troy and thanks for the memories.

Anyone in their mid-40's has been truly blessed to be a Steelers football fan. The championships and all of the great players we have had the chance to watch play. It's a sad day but I sure hope there will be many more of these kind of sad days when a Steelers great retires and hopefully as a Steeler.

Thanks for all the great memories, now Dr. Mr Colbert extend Heyward and Beachum and sign 1 vet edge rusher for the 4-3 formation like a RE.

My fave Defensive player ever. Love you Troy. Take care of your family and enjoy the life you made...you deserve the best.
