Polamalu retires after 12 years

I will miss Troy. An amazing player and awesome human being, it seems. I hope he stays in the public eye in some fashion.

you gave me emotions , thanx TROY , you will be missed greatly ,the hall of fame is waiting for you ...GOOD LUCK

HoF is now waiting for him, thanks for all the effort and amazing plays.

Grateful to watch his whole career, he's one of the greatest.

It's a sad day that we all knew was coming. No one did it better. Thank you for the memories Troy.

Troy has always done the right thing, including retiring at the right time. Every Steeler fan is going to miss him. The greatest play of all time IMHO is his INT and TD of Flacco. I get all Steelery watching that play.

I am glad he is retiring. I hate seeing once great athletes soil a great legacy by staying too long. I will miss watching him play.

(in a high pitched voice) its harddddd to say goodbye to Troy yesterdayyyyyyy)

we will miss you !

many great memories many...........

Thanks Troy for a great career and so many memories and most of all thanks for being a true pro both on and off the field. Good luck in whatever you do and I hope to see you in some kind of position with this team in the future. This is a day we all knew was coming but it still don't make it any easier.............. Thanks for the memories Troy!!!

Along with Ben Roethlisberger - one of the 2 key Steelers of the mini dynasty. #43 will not be re-issued and now that Greene got his # retired; Troy will be on that list after Harris, Bradshaw, Lambert, Ham, Bettis & Ward (may have missed one or two).

Thanks Troy for all the memories. You left it all on the field. One of the best. Hall of Famer on and off the field. I hope you enjoy retirement as much we all enjoyed watching you play.

Woke up this morning to see my FB news feed flooded with news about this. I was hoping it was a bad dream....but it's not. I knew this day would come, yet it still surprised me. I am sad, yet glad that we had Troy on the Steelers. It is going to be so weird to NOT see him suited up on the sidelines this season. I wish him and his family all the best.....

THANK YOU TROY!!!!!

I just woke up to this. I want to go back to sleep now...sad day indeed; but, I applaud Troy for his services and commitment to the team and fan base.

God bless, sir.

I think A.Smith, Hampton, Farrior, and Harrison should be considered for the HOF from those defenses.

Though Joey Porter will probably get in as well. He had some great years after the Steelers to solidify his case.

Does Chad Brown get in? Vrabel probably does...

Keisel should get in just for his ability to grow that beard in a year!

He was like Walter Payton in that you could identify him by nothing more than the way he ran and moved around on the field.

Looks like I can officially retire my HAIRWAY to Seven shirt with both Kiesel and Troy on it now....

None of those guys except for Harrison has even a prayer of getting in the HOF, and even Harrison's a longshot.

A class guy, a once in a lifetime player. Unique in every way. Thanks for everything, Troy!

Thank you, Troy, for 12 years of playing like your hair was on fire. Thanks for the memories of some amazing and unreal plays that you made at big moments.

Troy will be missed by all NFL fans. I can see him doing a lot of great things for people less fortunate.

Thank you, Troy, for your loyalty and spectacular play for the Steelers! It was a privilege to watch you for 12 years. You are one of the greatest to ever put on a Steelers uniform or any football uniform. Not only a great football player but a great man and role model. Should be a first ballot HOF'er.

I woke up this morning to this and called in sick. Today I will spend watching Troy highlights and sulking . This weekend I will eat 43 hot wings. Drink 43 beers Drive 43 in a 45. Make 43 Twitter posts. Kiss the wife 43 times. Be told "No" by the wife 43 time. I least I tried,,,43 tines.

Here's to you 43. Loved it when you sacked Collins by jumping over the offense. All the picks, saving tackles, sacks, and truly classy professionalism each and every time. You've been the bar of what pro athletes should strive to be.

It is a sad day in the Nation for sure...but it is time. Troy Polamalu is one of the very few modern era Steelers who can be mentioned in the same breath as those of the 70's. You might even argue that he's in the "Mt. Rushmore" of all-time Steelers players.

Total class act on and off the field...played with a ferocity rarely seen... cannot wait to see him inducted in the Steelers wing in Canton.

Thanks a lot Troy! You proved me and others wrong. Best of luck in the future, and thanks for all of the black and gold memories.

-Coach

Gonna miss my favorite all-time modern era Steeler. Had a chance to meet him in Charlotte his rookie year in the Hilton lobby the day before his preseason game against the Panthers. Really down to earth nice guy. He was extremely humble, and thanked me and my wife for being Steeler fans. Signed a napkin and took some pictures with us. I will try to upload them later tonight.
