Pickens being traded to Dallas?

I dont think fields is close to a 3rd ..
that extra million Wilson got matters
Wilson will be right up against it... so barring injury or benching he could be a 3 or 4.

You have to end up top 5% of the overall metric... which includes contract value and played snaps..

You also cant get more than 4 picks and since its limited on how many picks get doled out, its plausible some of those 5th and 6th round types are lost... we almost certainly will lose one if we sign a UFA to anything substantial unless he was cut this offseason...
 
Regarding comps, Fields and even Russell, with insensitive based contracts could possibly return a 3rd round comp, with Fields more likely to reach those thresholds. With Chargers drafting Hampton, Naj is very unlikely to elevate the comp pick Steelers will get.

They should go into ‘26 draft with at least 3 3rd round picks and possibly a fourth (Fields).

Not doing this trade before draft and taking an early WR, was A) likely having no trade partner willing to give at least a 3rd at that time and B) it was a VERY week WR class and they would not have been able to replace Pickens anyway.

They likely will expect WR2 will have to come out of Austin III, Wilson, Woods. And get the 3rd round pick a year early, to further load up to go up and get their QB in ‘26 draft, rather than wait until ‘27 to get (at best) a 3rd round comp for Pickens signing as a FA?

Nah... you can literally cut a guy midseason up till like week ten or something and it still matters

In fact, one of tge dumbest rules in the nfl says if team A signs a player off of team B, then traded him to team C... it affects team B and C, even though team C had to pay team A something to get the player they signed🤦🏻‍♂️
 
Pickens appears to be on the Antonio Brown career path, without the bigly productive years prior to meltdown.

I wish we could have fleeced a 2nd round pick but am happy to see him go. The kid is uber-talented but has a lot of growing up to do or worse.

Once the season starts.. But in the off season, any signings starting Monday after the draft, don't count towards the comp pick formula.

4 is locked in now. The Comp formula ends after the draft.
 
Calm down. Tomlin is confident the pile of scrap heap veteran wr's will grow as training camp comes to an end. His mouth will be watering while he chooses from the pile.

What I'm hearing from this group is that Omar got fleeced by Jerry Jones.

At this point that was all the guy was worth.

Yep you are right on that... a CFA is a CFA all year, but you do have to initially sign before that second Tuesday after the draft deadline to qualify as a CFA that season...

Again more stupidity be the NFL... like if a guy signs before the deadline and gets cut in camp, he should lose that CFA status...

Like i said... its really stupid

As for the Pickens trade I think it is ridiculous. I get he has some issues, but he was our only offensive playmaker and we got him help. Why spend $30mil on a WR of you planned to trade Pickens. We are now $30 million in the hole and no better off. I would argue Pickens was as good or near as good as Metcalf. Now we have no #2 a #1 who doesn't know the offense and a big hole at QB. Any of Rodgers buddies are over the hill. Lazard was not a bad wr, but he was more like a high end #3. Now he might not even be that.
 
I’m fine with trading Pickens. A 3rd round pick is crazy. Keep shopping him. Wait until camp when somebody gets injured and a team is desperate. I feel they need a 2 for George. At least make it a 3 with a possibility of a 2 if George hits certain metrics.

I hope this is not a done deal and it’s just Dallas trying to make it public to pressure the Steelers
 
The same people complaining about only getting a 3rd are the same ones who think TJ would garner two 1's. That's just not reality. Teams arent willing to pay that anymore. Especially since in almost every case, you have to sign them to a max deal on top of it. Quarterbacks are the only ones that would go for multiple 1's and they aren't available.

I get all that. But you are another team. They see what we see. What would have you given up? I don't understand the timing, either, though.

If a guy doesn't consistently run routes or do the things necessary to be a top WR, you can still get away doing things on defense you wouldn't do if he was running routes every play. Was he a liability more often than an asset?

We overreact to everything. Let it play out. He is an incredibly talented kid, but everything else is holding him back. He just doesn't seem like he will get it.
