I figured everytime we hear something someone can report what they saw / heard. Or if nothing else a report they saw floating around.

I will be (as I do every year) going twice, one for autographs/practice and one just for practice.

But here is one I saw just posted on Steelers Depot

Cam Thomas changed his number to 93. He still sucks though.

Is Mike Adams’ Roster Spot In Trouble?

I think it is and has been for awhile but this news is a possible clincher.

One of the first things that we learned with the opening of training camp was that we might not see much, if any, of fourth-year tackle Mike Adams, who had back surgery just a few days ago. Adams said that it was an injury that he dealt with throughout the offseason and aggravated during OTAs.

It was only recently decided that the best course of action would be to get it surgically addressed, with the suggestion being that non-surgical intervention would not be a sufficient solution, either in the short term or the long term, if not both. But the recovery period for the surgery is close to a month, which won’t give him much time to get going before the season starts.

To bad for Mike Adams, but he has had plenty of opertunity to impress, which he DIDN"T take advantage of. Best of luck to him.

Adams isn't going anywhere unless someone behind him steps up in a BIG way. Adams is a reliable backup, at this point, that still may have some upside.

I'd not get over zealous here men. Mike Adams is not getting released and it would take someone to really step up to take his spot and I just don't see it happening this camp. I do wonder why the hell he didn't get this handled in the winter or spring rather than now. He said he agrivated it during OTA's but played with it all season so could he not have had the surgery earlier than a few days ago?

If he's not on the field he can't show his tendencies to be a turn style... Can't put more bad tape out there while recovering from back surgery hoping to keep his job by default, which should work given our "depth" at the position.

I think they are woefully thin at OT this year in camp. I think's it a bad job of Colbert at that position.

Hopefully the starters will stay healthy and it won't matter, but you never know. And I don't even like the "plan" at the position moving forward. They must feel awfully confident they can negotiate a deal that doesn't break the bank on Beachum because if that breaks down who knows what the **** we're doing there in 2016. Knowing Tombert, it's place the tag on Beachum for $10-12 million.

Not sure that it is a point that can be blamed on anyone. There were several lineman brought in that could likely be ok as backups. I might not remember this accurately del and if so please correct me, but I thought at least one of the undrafted guys we have you considered in your draft analysis (as an alternative to who was picked) as early as the 4th round. There is also Alejandro V, and the possibility of others that get released by a team that might be rich in that area.

As to back injuries, having had one myself, they are maddening to deal with. Sometimes they seem inconsequential and other times maddeningly debilitating for the same injury. There are also many different ways of treating them besides surgery and it is often worth trying the alternatives first to see if they are effective. If Adams has been trying to tough it through an injury it may have affected his play. Also it might be something the Steelers were trying the least invasive ways to treat it first and when it did not look like it was going to be successful they went with the surgery. Adams has been here long enough to know the playbook and his assignments so other than working on his craft will not likely need the time. He could actually improve more from getting rid of a nagging injury. Also keep in mind that it is early in the year and he would likely be ready by the start of the season or shortly there after.

I think the injury does nothing to him one way or the other as far as being on the hot-seat for making the roster. He is a backup and likely will stay there and is inexpensive as well as far as lineman go. He is just as likely to be beat for a position if he was uninjured as he was injured as his alternative would need to offer more as a back up. The only thing the injury does is put him in position to receive an injury settlement or end up on injured reserve if things do not go well for him, in the case of the latter he will likely still be on the team and the steelers could carry a replacement and not need to decide till next year.

Is there a possibility that a T will be available when the cuts start to hit the street ? Who's loaded with young talent and do ya think Tombert will step up if someone does become available ? Inquiring minds want to know del. whadaya think?

It's not their M.O. to depend on roster cuts from other teams for anything.

Tomlin is VERY attached to the idea the work in training camp is what makes the emotional bonds on the team. He's very committed to the 53 guys that makes it will be the best from camp and those 53 guys are the real Steelers for the 2015 season and going to war.

Injuries happen and people get replaced, but I think Tomlin always favors the original-53 each season (and gives them huge leeway in performance before replacing them).

It's not necessarily a bad psychological way to go about things, but it's not really realistic in today's NFL either.

That's why I'm critical BEFORE camp starts about getting depth issues fixed of Colbert (and Tomlin if he's part of this). I know everyone's excited about Villanueva, but the guy did get CUT by three others team so it's hard to think he's a huge diamond that all these other head coaches just didn't see or notice.

And now we find out about a back surgery for Adams and it's very sketchy about when the doctors/team found out about this. Back surgeries for O-lineman can be pretty serious. And now he's going to miss significant time during camp.

Just seems odd.

I don't have hope it will happen and we'll wait and see how their performances go, but I do think we will need a tackle with experience if Adams isn't ready for week 1 and I doubt Villanueva or Whimpey are good enough but Tomlin will stick with them because that's how he rewards the work put in during camp. Let's just hope nothing happens to Beachum and Gilbert and this issue never comes up.

That's hilarious. You should've seen people begging for his autograph yesterday. Acted like it was Polamalu walking by.

Oh yeah at camp you try to get every autograph possible.

You don't think about the bubble players.

Although some target some more than others.

....when I do the autograph portion of my visit, I take personalized photos of the player online on photoprint paper so they can sign something out of the normal. Always has worked for me. I have a pretty solid collection............

Maybe we get lucky and Munch has Roos available to un-retire. Other than that there's always Jonathan Scott! :night:
