Nice job Landry

Here's the thing ... It's unknown and unknowable as to what the result (win or loss) would have been with Vick in the game for the entire game. It did not look good. What is known is that this team is 2-1 without Ben. A place that four weeks ago seemed almost impossible to think about. And it's been Tomlin guiding the team during that stretch. Circumstances have changed, we've lost other players to injury, adversity has mounted ... and yet the team is 2-1 over the last 3 weeks. That's "season saving" stuff right there ... especially with Ben set to return soon.

So, whatever it is that the "dumbass" is doing, I hope he keeps it up until Ben gets back and we can get the offense back to full strength (minus Beachum).

I feel we won in spite of him not because of him. And I have been a Tomlin defender for a long time, but the decision to sign Vick was clearly not a football decision. It's clear they have no real confidence in his ability from the play-calling alone. Maybe it comes from a good place of wanting to give him a shot at redemption or something, and on some level I can understand that. But there's a whole other team full of players that deserve a decent shot at making the playoffs and they don't deserve almost having it torpedoed to fulfill Tomlin's personal vision.

Hey, good for Vick he got another year of income out of it that he probably needs and I won't begrudge him that. But signing him was clearly a mistake and hopefully Tomlin owns up to that and doesn't dig in his heels and try further to make it work.

Why don't you review the game thread.....i posted that i disagreed with the 2 pt attempt......

Eh, why get worked up about the two point play? Maybe he called the two point play because he was trying to go up by 4. The way both offenses were going at that time it looked like a 4 point lead would have held up. As it was, the way our defense played for the rest of the game the two point lead we settled for would have won the game. Maybe he felt that he could trust the defense to maintain the lead. He definitely walked the razor's edge on that one.

In the context of this game the two point conversion attempt was meaningless. Failing to convert it didn't hurt us. Nor would converting it have helped us as the Cardinals never scored aga. ... Now, as an indicator of future decision making ... Let's just hope that particular decision isn't made again in those circumstances.

Landry ran the offense better. He deserves to start next week if Ben can't go ... I'm really hoping that Ben is good to go.

I'm hoping they wait till Ben is, really, ready. Play Jones and get out of KC

interesting...

Aaron Rodgers just threw a back-shoulder pass to James Jones for a TD.

Lets put this in perspective... The steelers gave Jones EVERY chance in the preseason to win the backup role... when he was abysmal until facing 4th stringers, they brought in Vick, which was always a questionable move for this O... even after he struggled and was using a third of the playbook that they could use, they still let Vick play... After jones made that Td pass, and threw the 2point int... the staff had such confidence in jones that they ran a draw on third down near the in the red zone...

I don't know if they just are so biased towards Vick that they were willing to run a handicapped O or that is because they are so petrified of Jones' decision making process based on the preseason and practices...

I followed Landry during his stint at OU.....The biggest knock was his penchant to get easily rattled by pressure...when Landry gets happy feet, it spells trouble ...if he sets his feet, he can be sharp. My concern is not his ability to read and react .....it's what happens at the NFL level when he faces pressure against men that are smarter and faster than what he's seen at the collegiate level. He's gonna face a top level DE over there in KC in a hostile environment. Lets hope he remains stable and confident.......there's game tape now. At least a half worth

95% of this board wanted this kid jettisoned the last couple years.....imagine that ...

Although Jones does deserve some credit for the win, id credit his success with working with the full playbook, I've been questioning Haley's conservative calls for Vick, ive mentioned in game they needed to spread the defense out to get them off the line of scrimmage (go multi WR more than 1 or 2) it took Vick coming out the game before he finally decided to go that way. Not sure if it's Vick not knowing the playbook but Haley needs to be more consistent with his calls, we could've done a lot better when Vick was in there if he just opened up his playbook.

Some think Jones didn't do that on purpose. Along with his high TD pass to Bryant. Nothing else special on his other TD pass to Bryant either. Just all luck. His quick dump off to Miller on that all out blitz was well....very lucky. I think Jones just might have had his eyes closed when he threw it. All said. Jones was just horrible today with a lot of luck.

not sure, Steelz. Vick has never been much of a structure/intelligent qb.

You may be right, just don't think he can grasp things....

A couple points we aren't talking about here.

With Landry we were able to run our offense. Not a conservative offense designed to help Vick.

Second. I noticed at least 2 audibles by Jones. Something Vick was unable to do.

Well Vick had WIDE open WR's in every game and either missed badly throwing, didn't see them or just didn't pull the trigger. He was just horrible. No other way of putting it. If your QB can't make the throws what play do you call then? What I'm curious about is whether if Haley even wanted Vick starting. Was this a mutual decision between Tomlin and Haley or was it just Tomlin's. I just can't see Haley wanting Vick in there running his offense.

The play calling or playbook had nothing to do with Vick not being able to complete a simple 8-15 yard out route, slant, square-in.. you name it, he couldn't throw it. He simply is not very good anymore. There is a reason he was available to pick up as a free agent because no one wanted him besides Tomlin.
Landry made some accurate, well timed throws and moved the ball, these are all things Vick could not do for 2 and a half games.
To blame the play book or play calling for Vick's failures is just beyond me.

Exactly. Vick's play has dictated the play calling. If they could of got by by not throwing I'm sure they would of. Hell they tried to.

Not to pile on Vick but he is one of the most unintelligent QBs I've seen play the game. He has always relied on his athleticism and now that it is diminishing, he no longer is a viable QB.. he's terrible.

Congrats to Landry Jones. I was frankly stunned at how well he played but he clearly is a better passer in the Steeler scheme. Great Win.

Seriously after 6 games into the season who would pick an NFL team to be 4-2 while losing their starting QB, starting Center, Starting Kicker and having their MVP runner benched for 2 games, WOW!!

Was wild today, when jones came in and made a couple plays the crowd really got into it. What a second half. The defense once more kept us in the game and we threw the first half away with no movement of the ball. The line held up for jones and he mad some clutch throws, who would have thought.

If Vick sees the field again...unless theres injury, Tomlin truly is a dumb mother ******. VICK has shown absolutely nothing in 3 games. Nothing!

made Colbert look like a genius today. great job.

Vick was never a particularly good passer, but he wasn't this bad earlier in his career, especially his first year starting with the Eagles, as at least he could consistently hit the wide open throws. He's not even doing that now.

I do not think his arm or legs have diminished that much, but he just doesn't have a feel for where his receivers are right now, reflected in that deer in headlights look in the pocket,

He probably would improve "some" over time, but the Steelers asked too much of him, as he just does not have the aptitude to learn a new offense as quickly as they asked him to.

I'm here to apologize for being so hard on Jones and to show my appreciation for his play today. He surprised the Hell out of me that he made some tough passes to get the win. He was far from stellar or perfect, but he was a lot more efficient than Vick. Like others said, all he had to do was play average and he did. He gave the WRs a chance. Vick is not an accurate passer and cannot lead the receiver. His legs helped any kind of success he has had with the Steelers. Take that away and you do have a Below The Line QB.
I'm still not overly confident sending LJ into KC to start and hope Ben is ready to go. Maybe, just maybe, Jones has secured the back-up position going forward and he will just continue to improve where he needs to be. Like I said, I'm thrill with the win and Jones' play, but I'm a tad uneasy where the QB position is right now. I think Vick will be cut and another QB will be brought in. Thanks Mike, but your services are pretty much done here. He tried his best, even if it wasn't stellar. The win in SD was worth it.

Hope he got the game ball, though he should split it with Bryant. I too had to eat some crow. Never, ever thought he'd perform like that in a real game. Mad props to him. Good going young man. Hope his arrow keeps pointing up!

I read an article on espn website that Tomlin stated basically that it is still up in the air who will start next week if Ben doesn't go. That they still had to evaluate Vick's knee. go figure.
