Can you be the one to explain the two point try?
Here's the thing ... It's unknown and unknowable as to what the result (win or loss) would have been with Vick in the game for the entire game. It did not look good. What is known is that this team is 2-1 without Ben. A place that four weeks ago seemed almost impossible to think about. And it's been Tomlin guiding the team during that stretch. Circumstances have changed, we've lost other players to injury, adversity has mounted ... and yet the team is 2-1 over the last 3 weeks. That's "season saving" stuff right there ... especially with Ben set to return soon.
So, whatever it is that the "dumbass" is doing, I hope he keeps it up until Ben gets back and we can get the offense back to full strength (minus Beachum).
Why don't you review the game thread.....i posted that i disagreed with the 2 pt attempt......
I feel we won in spite of him not because of him. And I have been a Tomlin defender for a long time, but the decision to sign Vick was clearly not a football decision. It's clear they have no real confidence in his ability from the play-calling alone. Maybe it comes from a good place of wanting to give him a shot at redemption or something, and on some level I can understand that. But there's a whole other team full of players that deserve a decent shot at making the playoffs and they don't deserve almost having it torpedoed to fulfill Tomlin's personal vision.
Hey, good for Vick he got another year of income out of it that he probably needs and I won't begrudge him that. But signing him was clearly a mistake and hopefully Tomlin owns up to that and doesn't dig in his heels and try further to make it work.
Landry ran the offense better. He deserves to start next week if Ben can't go ... I'm really hoping that Ben is good to go.
interesting...
Aaron Rodgers just threw a back-shoulder pass to James Jones for a TD.
Aaron Rodgers >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Landry Jones
James Jones <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Antonio Brown
Lets put this in perspective... The steelers gave Jones EVERY chance in the preseason to win the backup role... when he was abysmal until facing 4th stringers, they brought in Vick, which was always a questionable move for this O... even after he struggled and was using a third of the playbook that they could use, they still let Vick play... After jones made that Td pass, and threw the 2point int... the staff had such confidence in jones that they ran a draw on third down near the in the red zone...
I don't know if they just are so biased towards Vick that they were willing to run a handicapped O or that is because they are so petrified of Jones' decision making process based on the preseason and practices...

Although Jones does deserve some credit for the win, id credit his success with working with the full playbook, I've been questioning Haley's conservative calls for Vick, ive mentioned in game they needed to spread the defense out to get them off the line of scrimmage (go multi WR more than 1 or 2) it took Vick coming out the game before he finally decided to go that way. Not sure if it's Vick not knowing the playbook but Haley needs to be more consistent with his calls, we could've done a lot better when Vick was in there if he just opened up his playbook.

The play calling or playbook had nothing to do with Vick not being able to complete a simple 8-15 yard out route, slant, square-in.. you name it, he couldn't throw it. He simply is not very good anymore. There is a reason he was available to pick up as a free agent because no one wanted him besides Tomlin.
Landry made some accurate, well timed throws and moved the ball, these are all things Vick could not do for 2 and a half games.
To blame the play book or play calling for Vick's failures is just beyond me.
A couple points we aren't talking about here.
With Landry we were able to run our offense. Not a conservative offense designed to help Vick.
Second. I noticed at least 2 audibles by Jones. Something Vick was unable to do.
Not to pile on Vick but he is one of the most unintelligent QBs I've seen play the game. He has always relied on his athleticism and now that it is diminishing, he no longer is a viable QB.. he's terrible.
I'm here to apologize for being so hard on Jones and to show my appreciation for his play today. He surprised the Hell out of me that he made some tough passes to get the win. He was far from stellar or perfect, but he was a lot more efficient than Vick. Like others said, all he had to do was play average and he did. He gave the WRs a chance. Vick is not an accurate passer and cannot lead the receiver. His legs helped any kind of success he has had with the Steelers. Take that away and you do have a Below The Line QB.
I'm still not overly confident sending LJ into KC to start and hope Ben is ready to go. Maybe, just maybe, Jones has secured the back-up position going forward and he will just continue to improve where he needs to be. Like I said, I'm thrill with the win and Jones' play, but I'm a tad uneasy where the QB position is right now. I think Vick will be cut and another QB will be brought in. Thanks Mike, but your services are pretty much done here. He tried his best, even if it wasn't stellar. The win in SD was worth it.
