Why do we have to politicize EVERY-*******-THING nowadays?
Jesus Christ, it's a goddamn football game. Most players could not find Syria on a map, or tell me what the 4th amendment provides, or pass a routine English exam.
And I'm supposed to give a **** what these guys say about police brutality, or medical care, or poverty, or whatever it is they are supposed to be protesting?? If police behavior is such a concern, then spend a few of your millions on charities that bring the police and citizenry together.
Oh, spend their money on this ****? Yeah, nope. Rather kneel on the sidelines and pretend I am really concerned.

I have a big problem with anyone in power expecting 100% compliance on political views, which is the crap Tomlin asked the team and stated it as such in the press conference.
As the head coach, he can cut you, or quickly get a good player in his doghouse. NFL careers are short. I bet others felt as Villanueva did but either lacked his b@lls or stature on the team ( A new long-term deal worth millions ) and silently did not like this stay inside the request.
Better stated Tomlin should have allowed those who want to stay inside stay there or take a knee. But the way Tomlin wanted it divided the team and to quote Ben was a distraction.
Al's jersey is selling like hotcakes, the Steeler fans are showing their support. Of where the focus should be !
Unfortunately I think a lot of them "protestors" were a bit sympathetic to the attention others were getting to begin with.

The players supported AV and his choice to stand outside of the tunnel. Although Deebo said he wasn't aware of it. PennLive's article discusses it. MT wasn't aware of it, but it was a the players decision.

CMT was involved in the decision other than approving what they did as long as it was as a team. According to the players quoted in this article after the game, AV's standing out in front outside of the tunnel WAS approved by his teammates. "Villanueva went on to stand outside the away team tunnel with his right hand over his chest at 12:57 p.m. while his teammates stayed in the bowels of Soldier Field. He was OK with everyone else not appearing for the anthem and everyone else accepted there would be an exception for Villanueva, Hubbard said. Ramon Foster also said the team supported Villanueva standing just off of the field during the anthem performance."

Well 1 & 2 were voted out, but I agree on 3 - 6. You are employed, if you want to make a protest, do it on your dime, not the employer's. In the real world, protesting at work results in a quick exit. No exceptions. The problem is the NFLPA would be all over this if terminations under this occurred now. Had the owners voiced the ramifications (like the majority of employers) last year, or even years before if such acts occurred then possibly this would have been a DOA issue. There apparently isn't any language in the NFL rule book, ops manual or the CBA regarding the Anthem......which is surprising.
Hard as it may be, I applaud Jerry in Dallas for giving notice. Maybe it will take off.

It's fake news that it is in the NFL Rulebook.
However, it may actually appear in the NFL Operations Manual.
The NFL isn't releasing this manual upon requests from the media as of me typing this, but an NFL employee has quoted it.
People are digging into this to verify is this Operations Manual does indeed exist and if it states as such.

Fake News = The cited pages of the NFL Rule Book. Those pages don't exist and nothing is mentioned in the NFL RULE book regarding this National Anthem.
To be Determined = This so called NFL Operations Manual and what is cited in there regarding the National Anthem.
The NFL Rule Book can be and has been downloaded and scrubbed for this information.
Apparently Rog the arsehead and NFL are locking this Operations Manual away from public viewing and only the words of an anonymous employee at NFL headquarters saying this.
But I remember the NFL Headquarters saying they didn't have the Ray Rice tape from the elevator, either until the switchboard operator confirmed receipt of it, so...........................?

There is no comments regarding the Anthem or protocols pertaining to player or staff enforcement during the Anthem in the NFL Handbook or Operations Manual. Teams are required to be on the sidelines during the Anthem, there is no directives regarding standing/sitting etc. An NFL Spokesperson (VP of Operations I think) last year when Kaepernick started this explained that players are NOT required to stand, but are encouraged to.
This may be a CBA limitation. I haven't been able to see the full CBA from the Union or NFL to confirm it though. Since it appears the practice wasn't really performed until the DOD "paid patriotism" promotion mandated the teams participation several years ago...(2007? Might be 2010). Before then it was an option if teams wanted to. I heard the teams that played in Washington after JFK assassination did so for a period. Guess....politics snuck its way into the sport when we didn't expect it.....
Coach's bold statements are in reference to equipment the players are wearing while performing for the team. Not, the personal conveying of opinions.
If an "Operations Manual" does exist and the NFL has specific guidelines associated with the playing of the National Anthem and player conduct at that time then the League should conduct itself accordingly as a governing body, grow a pair and take control of the situation. Players, coaches or entire clubs for that matter who choose to express an opinion or make a "statement" over some injustice or concern du jour have a 1st Amendment Constitutional Right to do so; but why in the FAK must it be during the National Anthem for crissakes?
ALL Americans should stand during the NA and not because they are mandated to do so. If a vet who got his goddamned legs blown off in a war zone can stand on two prosthetics then so can you.
