NFL rules on the National Anthem. Did you know

Excerpt from the NFL league rulebook pages A62-63. It states:
“The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem.

“During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition. It should be pointed out to players and coaches that we continue to be judged by the public in this area of respect for the flag and our country. Failure to be on the field by the start of the National Anthem may result in discipline, such as fines, suspensions, and/or the forfeiture of a draft choice(s) for violations of the above, including first offenses.”

That excerpt from a NFL rulebook is incorrect. FAKE NEWS!

It's only been recently that NFL Players come out for the National Anthem. 12 years or something like that!

I must have read it on CNN when I was up today at 5:00AM posting:wink:. I take it back, I do not see such rule after checking the NFL rulebook. However the NFL has rules, all types of them such as you can be fined if you don't pull up your socks.
I ran a search. This is explains it

During that weekend’s games, an item began circulating via social media proclaiming that the NFL League Rulebook specifically required that all players must be on the sideline during the playing of the national anthem, and that “failure to be on the field by the start of the National Anthem may result in discipline, such as fines, suspensions, and/or the forfeiture of draft choice(s)”:

The specific rule pertaining to the national anthem is found on pages A62-63 of the NFL League Rulebook. It states:

‘The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem. During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition … It should be pointed out to players and coaches that we continue to be judged by the public in this area of respect for the flag and our country. However, no such wording appears in the 2017 version of the Official Playing Rules of the National Football League: Pages 62 and 63 contain only regulations about the enforcement of fouls committed on the field during gameplay, and nowhere else does that document specify anything about the either the playing of the national anthem prior to games or the required behavior of players and team personnel during that ceremony. In fact, the rulebook makes no mention of the national anthem at all.

Coach, though the rule you mention isn't in the rule book it should be. There are plenty of ways to protest but the shameful display by the Steelers yesterday, except for AV, was not the way.

As I got ready for work this morning, my mind wandered to the many men and women who served and lost their legs in combat, yet they struggle to stand on their artificial limbs, no matter how painful for the short period of the Anthem, to honors those fallen.

I wonder what Rocky Bleir is thinking of this "team"?

I think so too, and it would be nice to tell a protester that he's wearing the USA flag on his helmet.

Interesting point - and as a vet, I stand every time the anthem is played.

I'll say it again - we protect and defend the rights of every American regardless of their personal beliefs. Not every service member will share that opinion but a fact is a fact...

Probably is. Rather have them come together because there's tons of opinions in that locker room. Tons that voted for Trump, I'm sure. But instead of alienate each other they decided to stay united together as a team of Brothers.

As they weren't unified.

See the issue being forced should be rerouted into a more politically correct platform.

Because ultimately the fans want football and football only.

They better figure this out sooner than later.

Just curiously asking Slash, what other options? Ben said there were three options A. All players stand and hold hands, B. Players stand or kneel with hands interlocked or on shoulders, or C. Stand in the tunnel before the field? Of course, Al was given exemption for any decision, but the team voted unanimously to no on B, and were somewhat split on A and C.....so they chose C but to stand at the end of the tunnel. Al, compromised and stood between the tunnel entrance and sidelines?

Now I would rather they have all stood and do what we normally do, but what other options were there?

Better yet, if Mr. Rooney was still here what would have happened then? You have a US veteran Bronze Star recipient and a former US ambassador.

Al was not given an exemption. CMT said he was expecting 100% compliance.
