In case it snuck up on you it’s tonight at 8:20. But maybe it will be more like 8:30 if they have 10 minutes of protests for our enjoyment. Reports are that the Chiefs will be allowing about 16,000 fans in attendance. How many will be there? I heard there were some restrictions like you had to show up together in a group that lives together or something. Maybe some ticket holders won’t show up because they’re aren’t sure of the rules.
the ratings will be interesting. A lot of people are angry about the politics in the game, but it’s still prime time opening game. Ratings should be big but how long will ratings remain if politics persist? It sucks to even have to bring that stuff up but let’s face it. That is the main story tonight whether you like it or not.
as for the game, you have 2 QBs who just got paid big time. Mahomes clearly earned it but Watson is more of a leap of faith. He’s been good but has he been great? Has DeAndre Hopkins been making him look good?
People bash O’Brien for trading away Hopkins but it may have been a smart move. The Texans knew they were going to break the bank on Watson. Could they also give Hopkins a huge deal? Not likely, so they got what they could.
I think the bottom will fall out of the WR market soon. When even old school Nick Saban is spreading it out with multiple WRs, it shows how many good WRs are coming out each year. Why pay a top WR when there are 7 to 8 impact WRs coming out every year? The steelers seem to be wise to this as they are drafting WR every year. Will they pay JuJu? Not if Dionte and Claypool blow up.
So, if David Johnson is healthy, trading Hopkins could be a long term win for Houston. If you believe Watson is a great QB, then he should still be productive without Hopkins. Houston’s OL should be good this year and they may be able to run and be more balanced.
The Chiefs drafted Clyde Edwards Helaire who is a perfect fit in the offense. When Damien Williams opted out of the season due to the China virus, it pretty much handed CEH the starting job.
on paper this should be a shootout, but who knows how sharp it will be without any preseason games.
