New PSU information.

Melt that goddamn statue down.

It'll be in the same condition JoePa is now

"An allegation now about an alleged event 40 years ago, as represented by a single line in a court document regarding an insurance issue, with no corroborating evidence, does not change the facts," the Paterno family said in a statement given to Pennlive.com. "

An allegation, made to an insurance company. Hmmmm wonder what that's all about...?

So it was related to an insurance issue so the insurance company and anyone else involved also knew?

Sounds like the insurance company is just now hearing the allegations as part of their payout review.

Could be bullshit related to jumping on the bandwagon to get some $$. Might be true. Who knows?

Paterno possibly knew in 76 but he DEFINITELY knew in 99 when Sandusky "retired" and was obviously forced out. Ironically Sandusky claimed he retired to spend more time with his foundation. How convenient. The charges that were filed in 98 didn't have strong enough evidence for the DA to press charges but that doesn't prevent Penn State from not allowing Sandusky FURTHER access to facilities and team functions. This whole situation is ****** foul and honestly people can go on trying to defend Paterno's legacy and name all they want but it's pretty clear they covered this up.

I rent a cabin in Black Moshannon a couple of times a year for fishing and hiking the AFT. The other fall I was hiking and came across a guy hunting. We were bullshitting a bit, and it turns out he was head of the crew that took the statue down. They took it down on a Sunday morning. I asked the guy what they did with it, and he said if he told me he'd have to kill me. We laughed, but it left me with the impression that the statue they took down is gone, melted or whatever they would do with it. We ain't seeing that one again, anyway.

If I were the Paterno family, I would shut my stink hole. Jopa looks VERY dirty in just what we DO know, regardless if this latest allegation is true or not. His entire legacy is trashed now. End of story. Trying to hide pedeophile crimes to protect the image of a football team is plain *** dirty.

Rumor is it is in Franco's basement.

Aw, bullshit. The Paterno family is going to defend Joe, as they should. What, do you expect them to just sit there and take it?

I am not defending Paterno, here, I am just wondering what the hell you expect the family to do?

I think the foundation was,a way for Sandusky and other very powerful men to attract and, seduce young kids. This goes way over Paterno's head, of course he is no saint but he is not the guy with who the buck really stopped.

You talking about people's legacy and image is hilarious to say the least.

Should we dig up the casket and burn that too?

Look, the man is dead. Sandusky will never get out. There is no further justice that can come of this. I hope for the good of all survivors involved that this has a resolution that brings some closure.

Pa was a great coach who clearly had some personal failings. But people act like he was the one out there nibbling on little ones. He believed the accusations against his friend were rumors and did not do his due diligence. That's not the same as condoning the actions of a serial perpetrator. I wish he'd done more, I wish he'd taken it more seriously, but I can't agree that Pa was some kind of monster.

He knew Sandusky was hanging out with little boys every single week. Yes, he's a monster. Jerry did it and Joe let it happen because he cared more about the reputation of Penn State then he cared about those children. Not because of what he believed about his "friend". Sandusky was not his friend. They didn't even like each other. After 30 years of assistant coaching Joe told Sandusky he would not even be considered for the head coaching job.

He knew. They all knew.

He's not a great anything. He's a complete failure as a human being. Some things matter more than football.

IF he knew.
YOU dont.

Im not convinced he did. And when he DID , he forwarded it up to the AD and Security.

And they did nothing and he watched Jerry hang out with little boys every week for years after that. If one of them was your son would you think he did enough?

Joe knew. Joe didn't care.

If your one neighbor told you the other neighbor was selling crack,, and you reported it to the police, and they did nothing.. Will you go over there and do a drug bust.? You didnt witness the crack sale,,, but your neighbor billy said he saw them.

Blah blah blah...Joe didn't report it to the police, he told the administration...about 30 years too late as it turns out...when they did nothing he ignored it...while he stood by and watched Sandusky hang out with little boys EVERY WEEK. There were reports, allegations, rumors,witnesses....numerous indications through the years... selling drugs is one thing, sexually abusing kids is another. No, I would not look the other way if I knew my co-worker had abused kids and continued to spend time alone with kids EVERY WEEK. Would you? What kind of a person would do that? Take off your blue and white goggles. There's a reason Sandusky was never considered for the head coaching job. There's a reason he retired rather than pursue NFL opportunities. That reason is everyone knew what he was...but no one was willing to step up and be a hero to those boys. McQueary tried and went to his hero and thought his hero would be the one to save them. He was wrong and he followed in his "hero's" footsteps...he followed the actions of this so-called great leader and did nothing. CYA was all any of them cared about. How many of these boys could have been spared this trauma if just one of these men had any courage at all.

Absolutely despicable and heartbreaking.

Yep! Sandusky is the perverted monster **** in this whole ordeal and needs to be dealt to justice. But to point fingers at Paterno. Sure he could've done more but from a legal stand point he did what was supposed to be done. Didn't Paterno notify the authorities? To me it seems the authorities failed on their part. Now if Paterno saw Sandusky doing so and so to a child. A. whoop Sandusky's *** into a pulp and B. Turn that **** in.

At that point you draw your own conclusions. I side with a lot of people in that Paterno should've done more. But again from a legal stand point he did what was needed

Dont care. case has been closed for a while... Regardless of who knew what, I think there is enough out there to make sure people dont drag their feet on a matter like this in the future.

The blood lust runs long and deep in this, but "knowing" without actually witnessing doesn't hold up in court. Let us not forget he who has not been mentioned at all in this thread. MIKE MCQUERY.

Not to excuse him entirely, but Joe Paterno has become the do nothing villain in this when McQuerry is the one who could have really done something.

Right. It is important to learn from this mess.

I have some experience with this in my professional life. I taught kids who were kicked out of their various schools for about 10 years in the '90s. We were mandated reporters even then. One of the key changes they made though is that if I reported something, once I reported it I was out of the loop. So the only feedback you really got was if you saw the kid the next day and nothing seemed to change, you assumed it was unfounded. If you didn't see the kid, well, something must have been found. I remember trying to follow up in a few situations, and was basically told it was none of my business. Since this thing with PSU broke, I have often wondered if Joe reported it, didn't see anything happen adn figured it was unfounded. Now I still think because of Joe's status he could have pushed it a hell of a lot more than a guy like I could, granted. But there was probably some laziness there, or I just don't want to know stuff going on.

Onfe o the changes made is that today you can follow up and get information.

Listen I don't have a dog in this fight, I'm not a Penn State fan or a Paterno fan, but here is what always bothers me about this "Paterno is a monster, he didn't do enough by just reporting it to the Police!" arguments. Let's completely forget about football for a second and put this in the realm of any person that works around kids. I work in the field and have for 20 years so I can tell you that if somebody reports to you a child is being abused but you haven't witnessed anything, your ONLY recourse is to report it to CPS and the maybe the Police (although most times if you call the Police they are going to tell you to call CPS instead).

That's all you are legally PERMITTED to do....period. If CPS or the Police either don't investigate or investigate and find nothing, what is your next legal recourse? Call them and report it again immediately? They will tell you to get lost. A citizen's arrest? Call your Congressman? Good luck with that. There is nothing you can do short of going to that house as a vigilante and then getting arrested yourself for either assault or trespassing.

However, if you want to make the argument that Sandusky should have been monitored constantly when he was on the campus and never given the opportunity to be around kids if they had any suspicions at all, I can certainly get behind that for sure. If Paterno knew he was meeting with kids alone on campus, he definitely deserves guilt for that. I don't know if Sandusky was given free reign or if he was setting this **** up after hours when nobody was around. I know there were reports about people hearing stuff happening and possibly ignoring it. Whoever those people were if it's true are very guilty.

Well, you might have a point except Jopa admitted to being wrong when he said, "I probably should have done more about it."

Sure, Joe probably felt some guilt. But read what Supersteeler said, dammit. It is frustrating, no doubt, but it is the truth. Even if Joe wanted to do more, there were limits.

I know we all think football coaches are next to God on campuses. And maybe they are. They still can't force CPS or the police to act on something.
