My drunk yet accurate assessment of the Steelers

I read here all the time, and I don't know why there is so much hate for Coach. Did the man not say "not an easy throw to defend"? I've been around since the beginning of this board and have watched the hate drive so many away. This board use to be one of the best for Steeler fans to cuss, argue, disagree, love another, etc. Speachless & SMH!

I don't think there is hate for Coach. I see it as disagreement and argumentative responses to his posts... that's just me though.

.not really m uc h to celebrate. The colts looked terrible. Without Luck they got nothing,

"Sigh".....that was Burns coverage on that play. Davis was the backend help. Artie hesitated to the flat and lost coverage.

You should read about coverage schemes.Maybe pick up Pat Kiran's book. You might learn something....or rather maybe a lot.

You are correct on the throw. QB threw it on a dime. Great ball placement.

I am curious: What are your qualifications for being omnipotent on all subjects football? Because you read a book? You ridicule Coach for "looking at film" but I am pretty sure that trumps reading a book.

WITH Luck they have almost nothing. But they not only won, but won 28-7 (thanks to two goal line stands). You are right; it might not be all that telling. But, at least they won two in a row, and both games were not even close. I will take it for now.

I haven't been here as long as you, but I noticed the same thing, fairly quickly. They will tell you that he cherry picks stats to prove his points....ummmm, last I knew that is what almost everyone does to try to prove they were right on Internet message boards. And he doesn't even return flames, even though he is attacked daily. I don't get it either.

The interior of this secondary is suspect. Teams know how to exploit that.....but this has been this way for some time. Timmons doesn't have the foot speed to keep up with a WR....that's gonna be a "go to" for offenses.

We have to draft either a hybrid LB-Safety or a LB that's a clone of Shazier. I can say that the future is bright with Tuitt, Hargreaves, Shazier and Burns/Davis

Indy was moving the ball rather well on the inside routes. Timmons was getting torched often up the middle. I think if a safety stays back and the CB's bump then that can help somewhat. The CB's play too far off. The TE's often have their way too, which I noticed last night

I don't hate coach. I don't like it when guys make up their mind about a draft pick and then create a narrative to go along with it. Then when the play does not match the narrative they minimize it. Just say the kid played a great game and hope he plays like that consistently. Like I've always said, I don't want to hate on Jarvis Jones. And if he would have panned out I'd have loved to have been wrong about him. Love of wanting to be right seems to superced hope for this team. Hell I'd love to be wrong about Tomlin. I just don't think I am.

That's the great thing about this board though is how knowledgeable and passionate the fan base on here is. Sure we hate on a player from time to time and go in meltdown mode. We all just want to see the team maintain respectability.

Same here. But I was right about Uncle Jarvis from the beginning. :smile1:

I think a lot of people were. He just didn't have the tangibles. A lot of us fooled ourselves saying he did it in college. Particularly in the SCC, but the reality is the average NFL tackle is among the best he faced in college. He just doesn't have the prerequisite speed or strength. I don't think he doesn't try or doesn't care. I just think he isn't fast enough or strong enough.

some seem more worried about showing how smart they are so rather than look objectively they slant everything, using bullshit measurements, to try and convince everyone else they are correct....to the detriment of the quality of discussion on this site...

I have no qualifications for being omnipotent on all subjects football, unlike you I don't have this huge ego to feed thinking I am. I am a fan of the game period. I also realize there are professionals out there who know more about the game, team and players I will ever know. I don't try to pretend I do because to think I do, would mean I am delusional. I also have no problem with folks posting their opinions regarding a football topic, it's what the board is for, and for the graciousness of those who contribute to it keeps it going. Coach is a fan, like the rest of us, he/she has opinions which are accepted as that. However, statements made which are unequivocally biased, agenda based and without any formulated rationale provided by Coach are what is challenged. Just like yours, or anyone else who does similar things which have no objective basis. I will or most will respect to agree or disagree, but to keep saying you are right, when evidence proves your opinion is subjective is Coach's calling card. This is why the negative attention is received. I also don't ridicule Coach, or any other board member. That's your calling card. I have a problem with Coach's inability to be accountable when he has been given objective evidence his point is wrong or invalidated. You say Coach watches film. That's fine, I can say I do too, but it doesn't mean anything as its all hearsay. I offered Coach an opportunity to understand something better than he think does now. There are many books, films, audio that give superb understanding of the game. Kiran's is one of them. This board who used to have a member who posted his views and it was respected even if it was disagreed upon. It was because you could read his published works on the matter. He spent a lot of time on player evaluation and included watching film. His published works showed it. Coach hasn't shown anything but opinions vilifying some players, coaches or schemes with any data to correlate with.

Here's my drunk assessment of the Steelers (and I'm not quite through a full six-pack so I'm not officially "drunk" yet):

The NFL has jumped the shark.

There, I said it. I know, deep down, it's true. Not sure everyone else has seen the light yet, but I'm sure you will.

I can't pin it down to one thing. Hell, I probably couldn't pin it down to 10 things. But something is off. And it's getting worse, not better.

I can't watch a game not on DVR except maybe the final-4 weekend and the lowB repuS.

This is, literally, the most uninspiring Steelers team I can remember since maybe the late 1980's. It's not about talent. It's just the whole attitude of the NFL and the team and ownership and everything. It all feels blah. Like I've seen it all before and it all seems very fake. The "stories", the "inspiration", the "excitement"....

Maybe I'm being cynical. That is certainly a hypothesis with merit. But I don't think I feel alone on this. I really don't. I don't see the "inspired" newbee and 20-somethings like I used to. I don't see much "new" on the internet anymore. It all feels corporate and processed and regurgitated.

I'm with you on this deljzc. It started for me more last year, but I've come to realize...my wife will ask me on Wed or Thursday, "who are the Steelers playing this weekend?" or "what time is the Steeler game?" ...and more often than not, it's, "I don't know."

I also find that when the Steelers defense is on the field, I grab my laptop and and split my attention. I just can't stand to watch them get rolled over. That never used to be me. I was always glued to the TV and my family know not to bother me while the game was on.

I've always said, "I'm not a football fan. I'm a Steelers fan." I've never been one to watch every non-Steelers game on TV and I played fantasy football ONCE back in about 2005.

One last thing...The NFL morning show with Nate Burleson and the petite brunette girl. The girl...she's pretty, she's smart, she's likable, but the fake energy she displays is indicative of the manufactured excitement that has become the NFL.

Same feeling here too!

Just more "make-up" for The Shield...

I agree. The whole thing just seems over manufactured. And frankly I still come back to the refs. The Steelers did what they could to keep that game closer than it should have been but that is two weeks in a row that in my eyes the referees seemed as though they were doing whatever they could to keep it tight. And beyond that it's just ****** stupid. AB and Bell share a high five deal after a great TD (and I don't absolve AB. That is like his fourth and this one costed 7 in the end because it was the field position of the 15 yard penalty and subsequent kick return that allowed the 4th down fake). However, after the completion on the fake the punter strutted around the field like a retarded rooster, but hey that's OK.

The reason why he doesn't get the penalty for his "**** dance"....is because it was not "choreographed" and/or in possession of the football..

Make sense......right???

That's exactly it right there Dino. They've come up with all these ridiculous rules to govern every little thing. And then when something stupid like that happens that doesn't fit neatly into the package of their rule it is ignored.
