This is what concerns me...this quote today from Rooney. "'I think there are a lot of things that go into being a successful head coach," said Rooney. "Number one is leadership, and trusting this person can stand up in front of your team day in and day out and hold their attention and have them motivated to do what they do. So, that's the most important." The Steelers have not lost because they were unmotivated or weren't attentive...they lost because their staff could not out scheme anyone when it mattered the most. They never utilized strengths and weaknesses, and they were too stubborn to adapt. Like I said in another thread, Find a head coach that can be a great conductor of an orchestra, that can bring in an OC, DC, and STC that are the best at what they do and let them do their jobs. Bring in great teachers as position coaches that can develop young talent and get the most out of late round pics. All the motivational rah-rah bullshit is just that. Tomlin had to motivate and use his word salads because he could not offer anything else. All year long, all we heard was "communication" on defense and players have to execute better. Maybe we should try something different if after 17 weeks guys still are not on the same page and not executing. If Rooney thinks you can "motivate" your team to victory he is sorely mistaken.
