Most Heartbreaking Steelers Loss Ever?

We've had far worse losses...but the fix was in on this one.

Antdrew, you want to blame everything on Ben. You HAVE to have Roethlisberger fail so you can get Landry or whomever in his place. I understand. You ******* hate his guts and nothing he does is right. We get it.

Obviously it was an AWESOME ******* call from the sidelines. And the fact that the throw was right there doesn't matter to you.

Truth is, that game was over the moment Brown went down. The Steelers just needed another 3+ quarters to figure it out and they needed some official reminders along the way.

Sure that sounds just about right. Im sorry my vet QB decided that a broken play where nobody else ran a route didnt just decide to just throw it away. Im sorry our 14 year vet who never makes it a secret that he calls all the plays in the no huddle couldnt get his team lined up calmly with all that experience he has calling his own plays. The fact that it was right there doesnt make it the right decison. It wasnt a high percentage play. 1 route vs 11 defensive players. Just throw it away.

that was a clear hold on that play, not sure how you blame Ben for that

SMH

Swollen headed Ben is being shredded on the morning shows for the fake spike - and rightly so

"Brady would never have thrown that int"

"Ben's ego got in the way of the tie"

Smh im not blaming him for that there was..and it sucks..but in that situation you dont take the chance..i understand going for it. There was time. But you have to know when to fold them. We didnt get the hand..FOLD. throw it away and kick.

He said he made a bad throw. At least he owned up to his mistake. I failed to hear the coaches say anything like. "Well that was ******' dumb of us." "We really should have had a couple plays ready instead of yelling in to the headset "Go for It! Go for It!"

Look Antdrew. I'm frustrated. You blame Ben, I blame 3 different things. Ultimately I DO believe that if they end up going to overtime there's no way on heaven or earth the Steelers win that game. It's not in the cards. Why they don't have a plan for that kind of ****, I don't know. I suppose they do, but obviously Brown is your guy. Why the **** Eli ran a slant instead of a fade, I don't know. Maybe he's got mental issues.

What we know for sure is that Tomlin lost faith in his defense by calling for that play as well. He knew they weren't going to hold the cheaters. He knew they had to score or the game was over period. In the end, a FG was the same as a loss anyway. And that's God's honest truth. This defense is playing what... bottom 1/4 of the league?

I love how we come out and do exactly what everyone has been clamoring for in playing man defense, we had a winning gameplan (granted I'll give you the two Haley give up drives), and many assumed (probably not because of bias or anything) that good ole stupid Tomlin would trot that same zone defense and we'd get blown out. We didn't, lol andnyet here are many still on Tomlin for being out coached, hahahaha I just can't anymore with some of you. He does what you want and the team doesn't execute in specific situations but should have won it's his poor coaching, he does the opposite and guess what still poor coaching. Some of you will always find ways to hate Tomlin, so it's pointless anymore to ever argue with those of you that are so utterly biased against him.

Never had a losing season, 11-3 this year, even if he won the SB at any point from here on out there'd still be whining and insults of being a terrible coach

Why the **** do the coaches have to have a play called when we have a 14 year vet and self pro claimed no huddle genius in our QB. There was time to get a play in. BEN HAS A MILLION PLAYS IN HIS HEAD..HE HAS SAID SO HIMSELF. and if you dont get a good look THROW IT AWAY.

No nothing can top the 1994 AFCCG. That was gut wrenching!

Amen to that. I feel worse about that one than even SB XXX. The Chargers were a garbage team and it showed as they were dismantled in the SB.

They all blur together anymore. Seems like being a fan of this team is death by 1000 cuts to me. Honestly, I would rather they just completely suck and have no shot at the playoff each year beside's this "oh the Steeler's have a great shot to win it all" hype that ends up ripping your heart out when the playoffs start. I really need to take a break from actually caring about it I think.
Sad since I have actually cared about it since they won it in 75.

O'donell deciding to throw the ball to Larry Brown in 96 sucked....Toussaints fumble in Denver the other year is another one. How about Mendenhalls fumble. The ones that they had every chance to win and decided to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, like last night, hurt the worst.

What can BROWNs do for you. I know your just upset but jeepers,..... give us a break. If what you are saying is TRUE,..... then test try the Browns for a season and you'll be back.

Salute the nation

He had a play. He was going to clock it. And then Haley yelled in his ear (With something like 9 seconds left by the way) "GO FOR IT, GO FOR IT".

So, count with me.

8, uh... go for it?

7, look around, who do I have.

6, **** Eli...

5, hand signal.

4, hike!

3, Well ****, why the hell is he dragging?

2, He's still ******* dragging.... And he's running a shallow drag. Mother ******!

1. A window! A ******* window!

How much time exactly did 14 year vet have to comb his mind to find the perfect play? Cause I'm interested. Look. I'm not purposefully trying to piss you off. The coaches should have had a plan and when they didn't they should have gone with the clocking and either kicked or come up with one. But to try to force Ben into a literal no-win situation like that with time running.

Ya, Mike. You and the rest of the team ******* blinked!

Tom Brady would never have thrown that INT

Not going to lie.....I have never been so disappointed at the end of a Steelers football game. Normally, give me an hour or so after a Steelers loss and I am able to put in to perspective and move on but today was different. At the end of the day it is just a regular season football game but that game today is without question #1 on my most crushing defeats list.

Did you see the AFC Championship game years ago vs the Chargers? That and the loss to the Cowboys in the super bowl were tougher defeats.

Both of the Broncos playoff losses and the Chargers home playoff loss were more heartbreakers. But, at the end of the day we learned that we can play with NE and could beat NE if we see them again. I have a lot more confidence in the rematch vs. coming into this game.

I agree. everyone was still rattled by the James no TD.

Don't get it twisted, Ernie and Bellicheat will have scheme cooked up for that game. In Foxboro, they can control everything now along with the officiating.

Losing in the Super Bowl is more heartbreaking. This is a regular season game. We will move on.

Well, its been near 3 days and I aint completely over it.
Maybe it is the most disappointing loss for me LOL...prior it was the San Diego Pitt AFCCG.

Had this been anybody but the Cheats, this game doesn't make the list of most disappointing losses.

Most fans point to playoff games or SB's, not regular season games...that's the effect those dirty ******** from Boston have on Steeler Nation.

Eh. This one doesn’t bother me so much. Don’t get me wrong. I would have loved to have eaten them, but we’re 11-3, with two winnable games left to play. The Super Bowl is still very much within our sights.

I’ve been through too many heartbreaking losses that crushed our hopes. For me, the big ones that stick out are AFCC games against San Diego and the Pats twice (one with Kordell at the helm, and the other in Ben’s first year). Also the loss to Tebow.

There really wasn’t that much at stake here. I know that we outplayed them. That’s good enough for me for now

After a few days to digest this, it is the most heartbreaking game--not the biggest loss or most devastating loss--I've experienced. Just how it all unfolded, going from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows in just a few minutes.
