Seriously how in the **** is that even possible? Does he not know that he needed to use his TO on defense?

It was Tomlin, and I don't think they "let" the Cards score. Fitz got a great break on an inside slant and the defense was split wide expecting a downfield throw. James ran his *** off trying to catch Fitz, but it wasn't going to happen.
I don’t recall ever hearing the Steelers let them score there. The only time I be heard of that was either Holmgren or Shanahan (forget which one) doing it in the Super Bowl to get the ball back.
Oakland completes the long pass for a first-and-goal at the Steelers' 7. There's 1:53 left on the game clock, and the Steelers have two timeouts remaining.
As soon as the guy is tackled, I'm screaming at the TV for a timeout. Tomlin doesn't hear me. He lets Oakland bleed the play clock down to 4, they snap the ball at 1:16, and run the ball up the middle. 37 seconds gone.
Surely, surely they'll use one of the timeouts now with 1:10 left, yes? Tomlin thinks not. He lets Oakland run the play clock down to 5, they snap the ball at 0:34, and throw an incompletion. 36 seconds gone.
Does anyone else think the Steelers could have used an extra minute-thirteen there at the end of the game?
This ************ is going to give me a heart attack, if I'm not careful. I love the Steelers, but I've got to start investing less emotion in them, as long as Mike Tomlin is at the controls.
Although, i thought it was only one timeout. And i didnt care enough to go back and rewatch to see what was going on.
Nope, they had two timeouts. Did not have 3, of course, because they wasted one in the 3rd quarter due to the usual shitfest of not having the right players on the field.
And Tomlin spends the 1st after an incompletion, and has one still in his pocket with 5 seconds left on the game clock. Genius. ******* genius.
I understand he wanted the "right" defense called. However how hard is it to call the "Leave the TE wide ******* open" play? Did you really need a TO to set that up? Can't you call that on 3rd down?
Anyone remember what Cowher did in the SB against the cards when he know our defense couldn't stop ****? he let them score and put the game in Bens hands, That is what a good coach would have done yesterday. Earlier this year Ben was on the side lines with less than two minutes to play saying they left us to much time and he was right. we just let them score last night and I believe with all my heart we win that game
Normally, i can see what the coach might have been thinking. This time i couldn't think of any reason the TO shouldn't have been called. Although, i thought it was only one timeout. And i didnt care enough to go back and rewatch to see what was going on.
possibly, if you don't call a time out and the other team doesn't call a time out, they are working in a sort of hurry up mode and time is running out. If the Defense* holds them on 4th and goal, we win.
If you call a time out, they have time to go over their play call and get everything right.
* apparently not our defense, though
and look, I've brought up Belichik several times recently, because short term memory in this place says that he is the best coach ever and never makes mistake. he did it at the end of a super bowl and it paid off. If it didn't, he would have been criticized.

Belichick said that he thought the Seahawks would run the ball against New England's defense -- which was drawn up to stop the run -- but that the Patriots quickly adjusted when they saw Seattle lined up with three wide receivers. The Patriots sent Butler in for linebacker Akeem Ayers just before Seattle snapped the ball.
"We saw that matchup and we certainly gave some consideration to taking a timeout there and leaving some time on the clock. I don't know if that would have been a bad thing to do. It might have been a good thing to do," Belichick said. "But it just seemed like -- in the flow of the game- that we were OK with where we were."
Thank you for your candor.
No, it was two timeouts, and the reason the first one has to be called at the 1:50+ mark is that the clock is already running when it becomes first-and-goal at the 7. You are never going to save more time than you will in that situation, because it's after a long completion, the ball has to be set by the officials, and Oakland can take their sweet old time to call any play they want on first down. Which, btw, was a logical decision by Chucky to run the ball and force the Steelers to use a timeout while still having three shots at the endzone...oh, wait...what? Stupid Tomlin is STILL letting the clock run? BONUS!!!
If I recall correctly Tomlin said in his press conference that he wanted to bait Oakland into running which is why he didn't use his timeouts.
If he said this, then he just confirmed he is the stupidest coach on God's earth. You bait Oakland into running by CALLING the timeouts, dumbass.
If you don't call the timeouts, then Oakland gladly lets the clock run down to have their possession decide the game. Oakland will burn the time by simply waiting to throw the first pass. At that point, the clock has run down to inside a minute, and Oakland has two timeouts, three plays, and nearly 1:00 to run the plays, i.e., 20 seconds per play - plenty of time. Plenty.
However, if moron calls a timeout at 1:53, then Oakland knows there will be time on the clock if they score. Steelers still have a timeout, so Oakland may be tempted to run the ball, and force Pittsburgh to use its final timeout (because of course they shitcanned one worthlessly in the 3rd quarter). At that point, it's second-and-goal with about 1:45 on the clock, and three plays before the possession is decided.
If Oakland scores on the 2nd or 3rd down, the clock still has about 1:35 left. If the Raiders throw an incompletion, that leaves more time on the clock.
Jesus Christ, this **** is so basic. When the Raiders are down 4 and have the ball 1st-and-goal on the Steelers 7 yard line with 1:53 on the clock, the clock is not their enemy - the 7 yards are the enemy.
The clock is the STEELERS enemy at that point. Apparently the only mother#$@%er on earth who fails to understand that is Tomlin.
He said it, I found his quote. Here's his reply when asked if he considered using his timeouts:
“I did, but to be quite honest with you, I chose not to,” Tomlin said. “I was more interested in stopping them. Particularly, I knew if I didn’t utilize a timeout that the run game would be an element of the sequence and I felt comfortable about our ability to stop the run."
Tomlin treats timeouts as if you can also use them to put time back on the clock. I’m convinced he fundamentally does not understand clock management and that it actually makes a difference how and when they are used.
I guess I blocked out of my memory what went down at the end of the game. I also didn't realize at the time, that they scored on 4th and goal.
I quickly deleted the game from my DVR.
