With luck, we pick him in round two. Round one for Butler would be a mild reach.

I would be okay in Butler if we traded down from round one, but picked up say pick 5-15 in rounds 2, 3 and 5.

The Draft such a trade could look like this.

2 ) NT/DT Butler
2 ) OLB/DE Nassib
3 ) CB Burns
3 ) S Carson-Houston
4 ) QB Hogan
5 ) RT/G Shell

Coach where are you getting info listing Nassib as an OLB prospect? Every site I've checked lists him as a 3-4 DE or 4-3 DT. Ive also read on multiple sites that Artie Burns is a bad fit for the style of defense we play.

You haven't seen my updated mock. I have the Steelers taking Howard round 2 and Butler round 1.

I would really be thrilled with Howard in round two.

Butler in round one? I like him quite a bit... I just think he may be a second round guy. It seems a big guy in round had better be able to get after the QB. I don't think the Steelers would take a Louisiana Tech guy in round one. He really showed more agility than I thought possible at the Senior Bowl. He reminds me a bit of Tuitt... maybe not quite as quick. Maybe we could trade back a few spots? (I say trade back KNOWING that we don't... however, I really wanted Ladarius Green and I KNOW that the Steelers don't do that either!)

.

Also, the Steelers took two LA tech guys in round one before. Terry Bradshaw and Troy Edwards.

Also I believe it would help us against teams like NE and others who have dominant TEs. Not in the passing game but in the run game. NE trots out their 2TE sets and we have to go nickle cause our LBs can't stick Gronk. What does NE do gash us in the run game and then play action to Gronk. Can't do that if they can't run against our sub package. The Bengals and Ravens do this Alot. Get us in our sub packages and then run the ball

One of the shrewdest posts I have ever read here, Great analysis !!!!!

I love that draft. Jaylon Smith the the 3rd....f yeah!

Very risk vs reward type pick. I keep trying to find information on his injury but his camp is keeping a pretty tight lid on it. I have read anywhere from his knee is as bad as Marcus Lattimore to he should be put on the PUP and re-evaluated later in the 2016 season. If it's anything like Lattimore I would probably use one of the 7th round picks we have but nothing earlier. If it isn't nerve damage I would be willing to go late 3rd. This will not be my final mock and I will usually update about a week before the draft and leave it alone.

Jaylon Smith has nerve damage. No way can you take him before rd 5. I also don't like Billings in rd 1. Draft a damn corner and get an interior dline player in rd 3.

There has been no official confirmation on Smith having nerve damage..he will be looked at again in April. But again there is no official report that he does indeed have nerve damage

Not officially, but people in the know are aware. No way do you touch a guy like that before rd 5. We don't have that many picks, so we need to take guys that are for sure gonna play.

The problem with this is where the Steelers are picking. There may not be a CB worthy of t 1-25 value wise. I understand the need. I also understand the need not to reach for a player. DT and/or DE might be the better value pick there.

You're probably right. However in that mock we already picked a NT, CB and safety. I guess I'd just be stoked to see us get those previous 3 picks and then take a flyer on someone like Jaylon Smith.

Yeah, I feel his camp and agent have been good about keeping a lid on his injury because any news is bad news when dealing with an injury of his extent. I decided to use the "free" pick with the trade down since it in all did not change the draft and it did not have us taking an injured player over a position of need. I had a NT, CB, and S all getting drafted prior to the pick. If in the next month I discover his knee has nerve damage he is going to drop like a stone in my draft and I would likely have us taking CJ Prosise out of Notre Dame at the end of the 3rd.

He's not listed as an OLB prospect on draft sites, however, he did LB drills and looked good. Many of the OLB's we pick are DE players in college. Porter, Gildon, and Woodley to name a few. We make them OLB's. Nassib is smart and has rare character / effort.

At 277 pounds,Nassib shined in the drills needed to play OLB in a 3-4 base. And he can move into our 4-3, nickel or dime defense at DL, which we play most of the time.

40-yard dash: 4.84 (13 of 57)
Broad jump: 114 inches (t18 of 53)
3-cone drill: 7.27 seconds (13 of 50)
20-yard shuttle: 4.37 (9 of 52)

For those unfamiliar with what is a good testing result, a 4.37 20 yard shuttle is amazing for a player his size ( 277 pounds ). A 4.37 20 yard shuttle is good for a safety! Nassib time in the 3 cone drill was also impressive. He's got short-area quickness and change of direction ability. This also shows on the clips I've seen.

Many think Bosa is the best pass rusher in the draft. Compare him to Nassib in 2015.

Bosa 2015:

51 Tackles
15 For a Loss
5 Sacks
1 INT
0 FF
4 Passes batted

Nassib 2015:

46 Tackles
19.5 For a Loss
15.5 Sacks
1 INT
6 FF
1 pass batted

The Steelers meet with Nassib at the combine. He's my favorite pick in round two, and I'd be okay with him in round one.

Now watching Billings I see him on the ground... a lot. He reminds me more of Warren Sapp than Casey Hampton.

This ^^

Based on the highlight reel, Billings will have a hell of a career if he can convince NFL teams not to block him.

I like Vernon Butler too Alot

Butler impressed me at the senior bowl week. He's quick and strong.

He's 1 type and 3 type in a 4 man line, with enough ability to play 0 ( NT ) in a 3-4. While I don't he's special in any area of Defensive Line play, I think he's good to very good in several areas of the game. A bit like Gerald Willaims, only better for those who remember Gerald.

What games are you guys watching I don't see Billings on the ground Alot

Billings does not look like a true 0 NT...He gives ground and uses his athleticism to get off blocks ..I think his style of play is more suited for the Traditional Under Tackle in a for man front....JMO

I just don't see a lot of NFL teams that remind me of SMU or Rice. How did he do against bigger schools?

1 CB . Apple
2 OLB de Nassib
3 dt Ward
4 S Powell
5 QB Hogan or Sudfeld
6 LB Smith, I think like how Olumu fell from a rnd 2-3 candidate he fell to the 6th béc how serious his injury was and he was going to be on pup post draft, who knows if Smith becomes the same player or if after a year or 2 the nerve damage forces him to retire
6 WR Sharpe adds size and speed which hopefully we can use him asa KR.
7 OT
