Mike Tomlin: We listened to the Patriots Radio Broadcast for the Whole First Half

If I were Mike Tomlin, I'd swear that the trick play with Antonio Brown was called in by the Pats' sideline when they were controlling the Steelers' radio signal. I sure wouldn't want my coaching staff saddled with that stupidity...

I just love with the storm over them for these exact same reasons.
They come out the very first game and put a big Fu to the league.
Pretty much saying we will do whatever we want when we want and no one will stop us.
Talk about arrogant !!!!!

This made the intro to the Today show. Could be the producers are Patriot hating New Yorkers or maybe this is indeed going to be a huge story.

The pats are gonna destroy any remaining integrity the NFL has left

Questions a High School Journalism Student Would Ask

Q) Coach Mike Tomlin said that the radio broadcast that they heard was the Patriots Coach to Coach broadcast, Is this correct?

Q) Coach Mike Tomlin said that this radio frequency anomaly lasted for the majority of the first half, Is this correct?

Q) The NFL has said that after Coach Tomlin informed the officials of this strange anomaly early on in the 1st Q (as reported by NBC) that the NFL shut down radio communication for both teams to make it even for both sides, Is this correct?

Q) If the radio communications were shut down on both sides to make it even, how is it possible that Coach Tomlin could hear the Patriots coaches broadcast for a majority of the first half?

Q) Were the Patriots Coaches still broadcasting?

Q) What were they broadcasting?

Yeah, I saw that too. They said that the headset system IS run by the NFL but the problem was a *cough* power failure *cough* at the stadium.

What they were hearing was the Pats** network radio broadcast.

Tomlin said it was the Coach to Coach broadcast

I think it was the communication with the coaches in the booth ! They were hearing the Play by play radio broadcast

For as big a dick as John Harbaugh is, he's probably the only guy with balls enough to do something like that.

Yes he is... and if I recall, Brian Billick pulled his team off the field in Philadelphia once because of the condition of the artificial turf...do I remember that correctly?

If I was Tomlin, I would have made a call up to the owners box and informed the Rooney's I'm taking the team off the field until this is corrected or all headsets are removed from every coach in the stadium.

I may have misinterpreted radio broadcast, the play by play qualifier would have been helpful ........

Tomlin Transcript

What exactly happened?

MT: We were listening to the Patriots’ radio broadcast for the majority of the first half on our headsets.

Q: Coach-to-coach or coach-to-quarterback?

MT: Coach-to-coach.

Q: Is there anything you can do when that happens? Do you alert the official? Did they shut their headphones?

MT: We let the league officials on-site handle it, is what we did.

Q: Did you get satisfaction?

MT: Eventually.

A stadium power infrastructure issue...

it is almost as if nobody knows who owns/runs that stadium...

Even if the Patriots are not to blame...sure...the Commissioner then most certainly is if this has been going on for years (as nearly every team has confirmed). The NFL should relocate all Patriots home games until they have a suitable "power infrastructure"

But this is nothing new. Besides, why do you need somebody in a headset telling you that you should cover Gronk? It should be pretty freaking obvious.

I know the loss is bitter, but if radio comunication was bad, it does affect in game signals. The TV announcers kept saying how confussed the STEELERS defense looked on how to align. This "radio" contributed to that.

Belichick said they were too. Said it's been an issue for years.

WHAT a ********!!!!! Fully admitting to the "cheat" in a passing off way. BANNED for life, ONLY fix

If I was Tomlin, I would have made a call up to the owners box and informed the Rooney's I'm taking the team off the field until this is corrected or all headsets are removed from every coach in the stadium.

Agree, but what if Rooney said NO? I'd just done it right on the spot as regardless all HELL would break loose, rooney's permission or NOT.

Salute the nation

I just think it's strange, you never hear this kind of stuff happening in other stadiums. I've seen QB helmets have complications from time to time but I can't recall a coaches headset issue.. and according to Tomlin, that always happens there.

Hopefully this is the beginning of the "last straw" endgame for these idiots. Some inconsistent details emerged almost immediately...typical of a Cheats scandal.

1. Tomlin said "most of the first half" - the NFL security response was it was rectified in the first quarter.

2. The Steelers website said after Tomlin demanded "equity" from the officiating crew, they went to the Cheat's sidelines to inform them they needed to give up their headsets...the problem mysteriously vanished...until the officials left the sidelines and play resumed on the field when the Steelers headsets were again jammed with the local sports broadcast of the game.

3. When Belicheat was asked about it, he responded that THEY also had problems THROUGHOUT the game. "had to change headsets several times...we deal with it, it seems like weekly...had to change out Brady's helmet LATE in the game. Obviously, he didn't receive the correct "talking points" prior to his comments. FIRST, the live broadcast shows the Cheats USING the non-functioning headsets, does not show them replacing them. Secondly, the broadcast to/from coaches to players was NOT affected (according to all reports-only those BETWEEN coaches). Why would Brady's helmet radio be affected in the 4th quarter IF the problem was "coach to coach" AND WHY in the 4th quarter IF the problem was fixed in the 1st quarter?

4. The NFL went out of their way to defend the Cheats by stating the equipment is provided by the NFL security for BOTH teams when IN FACT it has been reported widely that the equipment is provided by the home team AND that it/they are ONLY DISTRIBUTED by league officials. The officials do NOT travel with all of the "gear". They leave it at the stadium (common practice/common knowledge) and many complaints have been made in the past about the condition of the equipment provided at this venue in the past. (some coaches even bring their own equipment)!

I think the "code of silence" may have a few cracks in it as their is the typical scramble to de-escalate this by stating BOTH teams were affected, other coaching staff's are already on record as to what happens in Gillette Stadium and the condition of the equipment.

It's a power infrastructure that resolves itself when the P*'s are told to take off their headsets but malfunctions again once the NFL rep walks away (according to steelers.com)

It's getting to the point where I don't want to watch any games where the patriots play in Foxboro. There are so many stories out there from players and coaches about the locker rooms being bugged and so on from the likes of Payton Manning and others.. it is getting truly ridiculous. Before Bellicheck started coaching, these type of things were never talked about. Pats fans think it is a conspiracy against them while the rest of the world knows something is going on.

The plot thickens from Deadspin.

The Pats are a fraud and the NFL owners for the most part know what the **** the deal is.Do not think they don't. These are very rich powerful men with resources. So they are either a bullshit organization or the Pats**** owner has them by the balls. Either way i want this **** to come to a head one way or another. This **** has ruined the game.

Tomlin should be learning how to draft instead of whining about headsets. The stiffs on the DL you drafted did absolutely nothing, the secondary is complete trash and your big trade DB didn't even make the field.... and you still don't have a clue how to call a timeout.

******* whiny losers

That bullshit last night was blatant and its flat out ******* mockery. This may be the final straw for me.

93.7 reporting that after the game MT had an "animated" discussion in the hallway with Colbert and Art The Duece about the radios. Wish we had video. I love it when Shades gets animated.

I don't think Tomlin was whiney at all. He didn't blame anything on the headsets.. he also has a right to let this type of thing be known though, especially when it is consistently done.

But Cowher was loved for shoving a photograph inside a refs shirt in a loss to the Vikings. Such fire!! Yeah Cowher don't take no ****.
