Mike DeCourcy says the Steelers should move on from Bell

That was actually pretty good, the only problem is I don't think even the browns are that dumb. they could take Barkley with the first, and still get their QB with the 4th and have TWO franchise players for less than Bell wants. I know its the browns, but damn no one can be that dumb.

but.....it is the Browns

Since we are discussing trading players we don't have under contract, can we trade Myles Jacks to the Cardinals for their 1st round pick? **** it, throw in Bouye, too.

I'd take Ramsey in a trade even if he has some female tendencies.

:pop2:

you cannot trade a player you don't have signed.....

You can if he's tagged. It's been done. Only tagged players can be moved without signing the tag. The tag controls the rights of that player. This goes for Non exclusive Franchise Tags and Transition tagged players. You can not trade an exclusive rights franchise tagged player.

The Steelers are $14.1 million over the cap for 2018. How can the Steelers offer a player 15 million a year? They can't unless they cut a few good players, which is not going to happen.

We can't afford Bell. Please trade him, it makes fiscal sense, and we might find a back in the draft or free agency that offers a greater yards per carry or yards per catch.

Bell to the Colts #3 overall or Browns #4 overall for Barkley!

OR

Bell for a 1st and 3rd, and 6th round pick, with the Steelers taking Johnson or Guice in round 1 or 2.

The non-exclusive tag lets other teams negotiate and
offer a contract to the player. This is the best path.

For all the writing you do very little reading Coach. Your made up trade scenarios are impossible. They can't happen if Bell is tagged. He's not getting a long term contract before March 9, so he will be tagged. Also, I know pretty easily how to get $16M of space:

$8M cut Shazier (he may retire)
$5M cut Mitchel. This is happening, I would put money on this roster move
$3M cut Wilcox

$16M boom. done.

Also the cap isn't set yet, and if it doesn't go up by $12M from last year, I'd be very surprised.

Plus you can extend a few too. And I am sure there is more dead wood to trim.

Is Shazier's money guaranteed because its a 5th year option year?

It was just an example of a way to make it work.

I would not bat an eye at getting rid of Bell as long as we got compensated enough to make a difference. Great player but too many tic marks in the negativity column. Running backs aren't all that impossible to replace and Bell's worth is probably currently at it's pinnacle. Nows the time before we shell out the cash we have saved for the mortgage on the farm.

Sometimes ya just gotta say enough is enough and take what you can get and walk away....

I wonder if Shazier's injury is career-ending whether the Steelers would get some sort of cap relief on the remainder of his contract? Anyone know? Btw, prayers up for him and his family, don't want to sound like a callous ******* asking a question like that.

They won a super bowl with freakin gary russell and the ghost of Willie Parker. I'm fine with them moving on from Bell, he's an *** and they desperately need defensive help.

I read on the blog on the PG today that Shazier's money hits their cap in 2019. I can only assume by the way he responded to the question that it is guaranteed as the question did say assuming Shazier cannot play this year.

if Bell is Traded after He is franchised, Go defense defense defense. I would then want them to trade for Jerick Mckinnon of the Vikings. He wants a bigger role and could be had for a 4th or 5th rounder.

McKinnon's a straight up FA unless Vikes sign or tag him.

This thing can go MANY different ways, depending on Bell & the Steelers working together.

Let's say the Steelers are interested in the Browns' #1 & #4. They can get those picks if Cleveland is willing to trade. Here is how you do it. You Tag Bell as non-exclusive, he goes to the Browns and works out contract numbers that he wants, agent presents the deal, Steelers agree. SIGN Bell to That contract BEFORE the Draft, and trade with Cleveland for the #1 & #4 pick. I could be wrong, but the only thing they would be on the hook for is a signing bonus. Cleveland makes it a Roster bonus payable AFTER the deal goes through, Steelers give him chump change or nothing to sign.

No way we sign Bell long term just to trade him away and then eat a huge SB. Never will happen.

Seems most people hoping for a trade are living in a fantasy world..

The Steelers I knew don't pay Rbs 14 million a year. That cap space could really cancel out Bell by strengthening the team overall on both sides of the ball..

As much as Bell loves to shoot his mouth off on Twitter about the p*ts and the big contract he deserves...you'd think he'd have a strong response to the reports of him being late to games and walk thrus and the media criticism from it that's got to be hurting his chances of getting the huge payday he wants...unless of course those reports are true

I think people here are confusing the draft picks you get for someone signing a non exclusive franchise player with trading the rights to a franchise player...

When a team signs a franchise player away from another team they MUST have their own first rounder to play the two firsts price... when a team trades the rights to a franchise player they can do so for any value they want... their own first, someone elses, a seventh round pick and a tub of potato chips....

One is involuntary the other the team agrees to... the Steelers absolutely can trade Bell to the Browns fans for their Fourth overall, but we all know that isn't happening ...lol

Yeah. I think our players have the right amount of "nasty". Guys like Mitchell and Vince Williams are passionate players who leave it on the field. Problem is -- the ability isn't matching up. Is that the players' fault for lacking talent? Is it the coaches' fault for not developing the talent they are sitting on? Who knows, but either way, I think it's more football IQ and skills they lack rather than nasty attitude
Mitchell is done. Williams isn't a every down player and it showed when Shazier went down.
