McClendon signs with Jets

well first bad news of FA, we probably were offering around 3M, and yes DT becomes a priority on draft day

WE under Butler will me more hybrid so base package you just insert Mcullers and in rnd 2-4 add a pass rushing DT, add a 1T via free agency someone cheap, like the jets former NT
I with these moves still have my draft priority for rnds 1-3
1 CB Apple Alexander Fuller Jackson
2 S Joseph trade up to get him, Cash could stay, Neal trade up, Bradberry
3 DT Washington Ohio ST doubt he lasts Billings Henry Chris Jones Miss ST

Still a downgrade for the Jets from Snacks,

I think with a deep D-L draft we will see one no later than round 2.

Sure would have been nice to have those 5'th and 6'th round draft picks that they squandered for a guy they wouldn't play and won't re-sign and a guy that just couldn't kick anymore. Oh well! They better look at more F/A's but this time on defense.

I liked him. Hard worker and did well with what he had.

Dime a dozen player hat gave his all but was not really good as a pass rusher and did not command a double team against the run.

I think we're phasing out the 3-4. NT has become a part time position as we shift to a Nickel heavy front. Teams keep spreading us out, so I think another Big Snack is unlikely.

Besides, we need an edge rusher. I look for that before a NT.

.

I think we actually draft a big DE/DT in the mold of Heyward. Someone to rotate in for sub package and can play above the line in the middle.

Bummer, though. I liked McLendon. His stats in the middle when the opposing offense was running between the Tackles was pretty studly--2.3 or 2.4 yards per carry, if I remember correctly.
.

They take the NT out in nickel which is about half the time these days. I can't see them spending a high pick on a NT. They ,ay look for a versatile player who is big enough for NT and can also be in the DE rotation to give a breather to Heyward and Tuitt.

The thing is, i thought McLendon could have been a guy like that. Not that he was on a level with Heyward or Tuitt but i thought he was good enough to play a series to give a breather here and there. Apparently the steelers disagreed.

Billings from Baylor could be a guy that can play NT and DE. He's strong and athletic.

Joel Heath from Mich State is a later round guy the steelers may like. 6'5 293 and can add more weight if needed. Converted DE so he is still working on strength. Hard worker and high character,

Sucks that we couldn't sign him back, but definately not worth the money given to him by the Jests...Big Dan got to step up now and we'll get some more depth via the draft...not bummed about this...we should be ok without him

Apparently not a big deal since we have moved to a NT only playing about 30% of the time. Put Big Dan in there and pick someone up in the draft. Not a big deal.

Sources tell me its 3 years 12 mil.

^^^ Is this more than Gay or Foster received? Personally, I felt McLendon was overrated here. He was just an okay run defending Nost tackle. In the nickel or dime, he had little value in terms of making plays vs the run or pass.

How about looking at Terrance Knighton? What other FA NT guys are even out there?

1. Jackson CB
2. Joseph (don't think we need to trade up b/c of his injury and not being able to workout)
3. Washington NT
4. Ngakoue' OLB

Would be a great draft.

Wasn't a fan of his. I want to see big Dan get PT. We will go get a cheap vet or draft someone to help with depth.

Big Dan is nowhere close to ready and from what I read, the Steelers feel that way. I think they may plan to draft a NT in rds 3-4
