"Maybe I don't have it anymore"-Ben

I think firing Haley would send a jolt to the offense, and it may be the right move.

But we still need better execution from Ben. And I'm not sure if Ben is willing to adjust to a new coordinator at this point in his career.

For example, a new OC may be smart enough not to throw 8 screens during a game; however, would Ben still audible into 5 wide when we are on the 3 yard line?

Same system, but scrap the needless junk and constant subbing. Promote Fichtner.

Problems solved.

Haley sets the formations and who goes on the field.

That's where the problem lies.

Not entirely. Ben can, and has often, audibles out of plays (especially in the RZ).

You really think a new coordinator is going to come and in stand-up to a stubborn 14yr vet?

I just read an article that eluded to the mindset of people ( especially QB's ) that get complacent. A GM for another team was sayin' that when they start thinking about retirement the training and studying tend to fall off a bit. Well, Ben never was that diligent about either one of those so a little slacking off would tend to be obvious. Makes sense to me !

The next observation is like a " what could be next " scene. He said in almost every case, if they suffer an injury, they get off what little regiment they were on and they gain weight. With the weight gain comes more complacency and the slide downhill is rapid.

No i couldn't find the article again. All I know is that it was on Yahoo.

Obviously not since a head coach that's been here for 10 years can't.

HALEY SETS THE FORMATIONS, HE is in charge of who goes on the field.

Case in point, 2nd and 3rd down, Bell was lined up in the slot, Bell was then lined up WIDE on 3rd down.

The RB in the backfield? Nix, who has NEVER carried the ball in a game. EVER.

Just like in New York in 2014, James Harrison was running pass patterns in the red zone, and he NEVER even did it in PRACTICE, much less a game.

The common denominator? Todd Haley trying to show everyone how clever he is.

You hire a loser? You become a loser.

Le'Veon Bell wants Steelers to refocus on rushing attack

PITTSBURGH -- Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell wanted to see a bigger rushing workload in Sunday's 30-9 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, who picked off Ben Roethlisberger five times on 55 passing attempts.

Le'Veon Bell, Steelers' run game even more crucial with Big Ben's woes
Until Ben Roethlisberger regains his form, the Steelers should lean on Le'Veon Bell -- much like how they did during last year's seven-game win streak.
Bell got 15 carries for 47 yards. Ten of his rushes went for 2 yards or less, including three for a loss, but he said he believes more plays were available and the stats don't tell the whole story.

"I don't think we got enough attempts," Bell said Monday when asked about the Week 5 production vs. the previous week at Baltimore, which featured Bell rushing 35 times for 144 yards.

Bell said the Steelers did not plan to run the ball extensively Sunday. He didn't get an explanation, didn't ask why and hasn't lobbied for carries, he said.

Asked about any displeasure with that scenario, Bell said his frustration comes from the loss and not the workload.

But he did make clear what he feels is the best option for the Steelers: running the ball.

"I feel we're a good enough team to wear guys out whether they know we're running the ball or not," said Bell, who has 371 rushing yards on 102 attempts and 144 receiving yards on 27 catches this season.

The Steelers held a 9-6 lead after a 20-yard field goal with 8:57 left in the third quarter. At that point, Bell had 12 rushes for 45 yards. But the Steelers had played out of the shotgun for the entire 14-play scoring drive, including three straight passes out of first-and-goal at the 5-yard line.

Roethlisberger followed that drive with back-to-back interceptions returned for touchdowns.

The Jaguars pounded the run with Leonard Fournette, who finished with 181 yards on 28 carries, including a game-breaking 90-yard score with two minutes left.

Bell said the entire offense didn't play well and didn't properly support Roethlisberger, who hasn't lost a step.

He also called a run-heavy offense "the formula for winning."

"The Jaguars, they ran the ball a lot of times -- you can see over the course of the game just wearing down the defense," Bell said. "Running the ball shortens the game, kind of opens up the offense, makes passing the ball easier, gets you in manageable downs. I think just over the course of the season you'll see the teams that run the ball heavy win games."

On the subject of why he doesn't lobby for more touches, Bell said, "It doesn't really matter what I think. I just go out there and play. ... When my number's called, I'll be ready."

If the bolded was the case then this was a coaching fail. I dont understand why we wouldnt attack them on the ground. I am on record for saying we need to become a run focused team. We have the tools to do it. The only reason i can see why they havent is because they dont want to piss Ben off. Why would you not continue the blueprint from the end of last season. Im going to go Coach and make up something i couldnt possibly know. Was Ben retirement threat because he didnt like the run emphasis at the end of last year?? Hey guys if we dont get back to passing the ball im going to quit. Ok done playing conspiracy theory guy. But i dont understand why we have gotten away from what worked so well at the end of last year. And not going into the Jags game with the intent to run was dumb.

So your incredibly gifted coaching staff did not game plan to run the ball against one of the worst rushing defenses in the league. BRILLIANT!

This is getting pretty common place for our team to under perform in Sept. and October.

2011... 2-2 (both losses as underdogs)
2012... 2-3 (two losses as favorites)
2013... 2-6 (three losses as favorites)
2014... 3-3 (one loss as favorites)
2015... 4-4 (underdog or pickem in 7 of the 8 games to start)
2016... 4-5 (four losses as favorites)

2017... 3-2 (both losses as favorites)

I mean, this isn't new. This isn't unexpected. We can ***** and moan all we want, but we just all should have just assumed this team would start slow, lose a couple as favorites and THEN start the season come Nov. 1st.

Granted, I think these slow starts are what kills us come playoff time and destroys our ability to get a bye week but it is what it is.

I have a prediction... in 2018 we start slow and lose a couple games as favorites in September/October. Any takers?

That trend is why they're constantly fighting for a playoff spot at the end and never in contention for a bye week. This year's schedule was set up perfectly to win the top seed in the AFC with a relatively easy schedule for the first eight games and the season backloaded with home games against their toughest competition. Instead they lost to a bad Bears team and a Jaguars team with a QB who can't win on the road.

Typical Steelers arrogance, EXPECTING TO JUST SHOW UP TO WIN.

WE don't need no stinking gameplan, why should we target weaknesses in other teams when we are so superior.

WE'll just show up, run our same plan that worked before with the same plays and lesser teams will just ie down and die for us because we are the mighty Steelers....

huff huff chest bump!

The stamp of the Tomlin coaching

Tomlin is responsible for this embarassing loss. He always loses to an inferior team with a more intelligent coach. He loses to Fox, He loses to Marone. Why cant Rooney see this?

Of all time? He might hit around 20th best.

Roethlisberger has been one of the most efficient passers in NFL history. He currently ranks 9th all-time in NFL passer rating (94.0), tied for 6th in yards per attempt (7.93), and tied for 10th in completion percentage (63.85%) among quarterbacks with a minimum of 1,500 career attempts. He has the fourth highest career winning percentage (.710) as a starter in the regular season among quarterbacks with a minimum of 100 starts. He is one of six quarterbacks in NFL history to have beaten at least 31 of the current NFL teams.
Also, he is 9th in total yards, and 9th in TD passes for his career.

20th at best. Come on.

I agree, and **** the Five Wide, *******!!!, it was horseshit on sunday

I think Ben needs to hit quick routes, not hold ball til he gets hit, or throws a pick. Not ******* screens, but slants and quick outs. I know Haley calls plays, but Ben can change them.

Maybe I'm wrong...only thing I do know, is I'm sad and disgusted with everything they have done this year...before, during and after games.

You don't PASS against the #1 rated PASS DEFENSE!

You run!

against the WORST RUN DEFENSE in the league

Typical Steelers arrogance - "we just do what we do, we don't need no stinking game plans"

I thought The Bruce was back running the offense.

Ben was terrific in the two-minute drill right before the half. He had time to step into his throws and had a ton of velocity on the ball. Without time in the pocket, he isn't able to step into his passes and he doesn't have the same strength that he's had in the past. As a result, the accuracy isn't there. Getting more quick routes where he doesn't have pressure in his face may help. I know that goes against everything he's demonstrated in the past, but it may be time to change.

would he rather change or hang it up?

For those of you that want Haley gone......Ken Zampese is available.......

If the OC was strong enough to say look, this is going to get us to the SB and actually develope a game plan show casing this "quick pass" offense, then BEN would buy into it in a heartbeat. He wants a ring with #7 on it.

Salute the nation

Ben was terrific in the two-minute drill right before the half...

It looked like he was calling the plays. CBS showed Haley standing there, holding his play chart by his side.

Let BR call a half; Bradshaw called his own plays most of his career. Couldn't be any worse than what we've seen the first five games.

or we could trade Ben and Bell to the Bears for Trubisky and Howard

we could afford to buy some pass rushing DE's for that jack!
