"Maybe I don't have it anymore"-Ben

He was bad today sure, but 4 of those picks were tipped, bad luck had a lot to do with it, were any of those bad reads? [/URL]

It looked to me early on that BR was pressing...Maybe he's fed up with Haley constantly running Bell into a brick wall.

On the drive when they got a FG to go up 9-7, the tempo picked up noticeably; it looked like Ben was calling the plays. There was a telling camera shot of Haley, holding the play chart down at his side, looking on with an expression that said, "Hmm. Interesting." But then they went into hodge-podge mode after that.

In '95, at about this point in the season, O'Donnell threw five interceptions at Seattle. The media and fans freaked out. But the team got it together and won the AFC. (OK, I'll leave it there.)

Sunday night J.J. Watt leads the Texans out of the tunnel, and little while later he wrecks his knee (and his season).

Moral of the story: It's a long season. We're less than a third into it, and who knows what will happen?

I think what we are seeing is a manifestation of the "me first" type players the Steelers have on offense.

I'll start with our recording artist, I mean running back, who for individual reasons skipped camp.

Then move to our wide outs, one who has been out of the game for a year, and his play seems as if he lacks either confidence, ability, or desire.

The other all world wide out (and video producer) throws a tantrum reminiscent of other team killers like TO, Ocho, et al.

Now we look at our aging QB who has always had a flare for the dramatic, he doesn't have the TEAM he has had around him in his heyday. No Ward (who I don't recall getting that pissy about getting the ball), No Bus, no quiet grinder at TE who was as close to automatic as it got.

Ben is charged with getting this dissolving unit together.

I'm afraid we are seeing many things coming together to bring this Steeler era to an end.

I would love to be wrong. I will ride out the storm either way, but I really think there are serious fractures in the offense that the individual personalities we have won't be able to repair.

I don't understand most were calling for Rodgers head now want him back out there? I thought it was a mistake sitting him in the first place, but what do i know.
No D in Rogers. Anyways I think it was more of a want off punt returns. That can still take place, with him in the slot.

Brady seems to be doing just fine without Edelman and no gronk last game

That's only because the TB kicker missed what....4 FGs? Had he made them, TB would have won.

Wasnt about winning the game its about not looking **** playing the position

I only saw the 4th quarter of that game, and Brady didn't look that good to me.

To do so, however, the Steelers have to be less reliant on Roethlisberger being his old self and realize that it has an older Roethlisberger.

It’s something Denver realized in 1997 and 1998 with John Elway. In 1997, the Broncos asked Elway at 37, to throw the ball more than 40 times. They lost all three games. But he never threw it more than 31 times in the postseason, that coming against the Steelers in the AFC Championship, and the Broncos won the Super Bowl.

The next season, Elway, at 38, never attempted more than 36 passes in a game. The Broncos again won the Super Bowl.

What Denver did was ride its running game, with Terrell Davis leading the way.

When the Broncos occasionally needed a big throw from Elway, more often than not, he responded.

That’s not what the Steelers are doing with Roethlisberger right now. He threw the ball 21 times in the first half against the Jaguars and 55 times in the game. Le’Veon Bell, meanwhile, got nine first-half carries and 15 overall just one week after carrying the team to a win at Baltimore. Bell had 35 rushing attempts in that game.

“It was determined by the looks they were giving us. They did a lot of single-high safety,” Roethlisberger said of the first half. “Then, when you’re behind, you’ve got to start trying to come back.”

Perhaps, however, if you don’t allow yourself to be baited into throwing so much, you don’t fall behind.

Some of that responsibility lies on offensive coordinator Todd Haley. But some of it also falls on Roethlisberger. Many times, he has run-pass options he calls at the line of scrimmage. Perhaps it’s time some of that responsibility be taken away from him, especially when he’s not playing particularly well.

The Steelers, and Roethlisberger, need to realize less of him is more. And they need to do so soon.

It was a winning formula in the second half of last season, when he never attempted more than 36 passes during an eight-game winning streak.

It can work, so long as everyone buys into it, particularly the quarterback.

“I’ve been doing this a long time. I’ve had bad games before. I’ve had bad stretches,” Roethlisberger said. “You just find a way to move on and play better.”

Part of doing so would be looking in the mirror and realizing you’re not a kid any longer.

But once again, it was a red zone failure that hurt them.

Pittsburgh drove the length of the field on the opening possession of the second half only to settle for a 20-yard field goal.

On first-and-goal from the 5, Roethlisberger threw an incompletion to JuJu Smith-Schuster. He then completed a 3-yard shovel pass to Le’Vone Bell before changing the play at the line of scrimmage and checking into a pass that fell incomplete to Antonio Brown on third down.

The Steelers had the Jaguars on the ropes a bit on that possession and let them off.

Defend the coaching all you want to, but throwing the ball 55 times against 2 really good corners and only running it 20 times against a ****** run defense is a poor game plan. That's on the coach. Plus the two challenges he lost were just retarded.

55 times ?? Was the gameplan or was the gameplan changed due to circumstance. And again how many were plays were changed due to the look the QB got at the line.

Word. You'd have thought The Bruce was back.

Bell had 15 touches in 32 first-half plays so when exactly did the gameplan change..oh after the two pick six's

The red zone is killing them. I don't know if it's the playcalling from the sideline or at the line of scrimmage, but the Steelers were 0-for-3 scoring touchdowns in the red zone after gaining first downs at the Jacksonville 13, 17 and 5. The running game is too finesse down there and they don't have a finisher in the receiving corps. Bryant just isn't a polished possession receiver and the tight ends apparently aren't trusted. That leaves a rookie and Antonio Brown, and we saw Roethlisberger try to force it to Brown on a double move with a cornerback draped all over him.

The brown double move play was called at the line of
scrimmage

when we get inside the 10, and closer to the goal line, we should be giving the ball to Bell. No one else. Straight up the gut. We have Pouncey, DeCastro and Foster. Big men on the line. Put Nix behind them and plow forward.
throwing from inside the 5 is a recipe for disaster, as we saw yesterday.

and, while Ben did throw 55 times and the Jags may have been stacking the line, we should not be throwing deep when they do stack the line. They stacked the line since they were ****** against the run. Even shittier than we are. So maybe Butler should stack the ******* line? Bryant on one-yard crossing patterns doesnt cut it. force feeding the ball to AB doesnt either. As well, our ******* WRs need to be taught how to block. What's Ward doing? Bring him in as a special consultant or coach or whatever to teach these prima donnas how to block.

Butler better be on a quick learning curve since we face Kareem Hunt next week.
Ben and Haley need to **** and get it over with.

LOL! of course he does! I'm talking about his actions on the field. Coaching staff? I agree some play calling is suspect, but coaches are not out there throwing INT's, missing tackles. Canton? There are a few Steelers out there that deserve to hit Canton before Ben ever does.

NAME them!!!!!!!! ****

Salute the nation

I wish I could post "the Godfather" scene when Vito Corleone slaps Frankie Fontaine. "You can act like a man"!

Heck yes, too bad Fredo in in charge of the team.

yeah that deep pass would be on hold until I saw them do it efficiently in practice. As 20% effective completion percentage on the deep throws, just isn't good enough. It is killing drives.

This team refuses to sharpen what works for them, instead they are flailing around on O without a identity, or a clue on how to adjust in game time situations.

Wow! We have a bunch of new profiles chiming in this week. Welcome all! Where were you when we were high on the team going into this past week? Nonetheless, welcome and enjoy the football talk and passion of the greatest sports fan base ever! The fans of the SIX TIME Lombardi hoisting Pittsburgh Steelers!

Of course it is. And I'm sure AB was all smiles after the games also. You know. Because he got his nice stat line for the game. At least Ben didn't have to call him out for has another temper tantrum.
