Mark Mallone, Cliff Stout, Bubby Brister

If we were the Browns, Cliff Stout would be our Derek Anderson.

I wasn't a Mark Malone fan either but he did take us to the AFC Championship game in 84 by beating the Broncos in Denver. Of course the following week we were shredded by the Marino-led Dolphins so they could face the 49ers in SB XVIII. One can only imagine what we could have done if the QB situtation with Miami had been reversed. Fun fact: The 49ers were 15-1 that year with the only loss coming against Pittsburgh. The down side was this gave Malone at least three more years to showcase his ineptitude.

I remember that game well. My buddy was a huge 9er fan and presented me with a shirt that said forty ******* niners before the game. After the game I poured beer all over it,threw at at him, told him to go cry in his beer. It was our highlight of the year, but he sure had the last laugh.

Malone did take us to AFC Championship game in 1984 and threw for over 300 yards and 3 TDs in the game against Marino.

I would rank them

Brister
Malone
Stoudt

Brister had some talent and some leadership skills. Bubby came at a down time 1986-1988, but was all right from 1989-1992 where he was 16-12 as a starter.

t-man makes good points. Maybe that's why I wasn't overly stressed at the end of the game. Been there before.

There was the guy who was so mad at Malone that he drove his car through the gate at Three Rivers, up the ramps a few levels, and plowed into the nacho cheese barrels. Back in the day Malone would frequent a sporting goods store in Cranberry that my ex-wife (then current wife) worked at and she said that in person he was very nice. Usually wore a ballcap and sunglasses so people wouldn't recognize him.

Bubby just had trouble throwing the ball when the wind was strong off the lake (he actually said that).
Ha ha. i never heard that story. Mind you when Malone was QB We just got more than the three Antenna channels and I got to see maybe 4 or 5 games a year.

Oh, I agree with that, Bubby was actually pretty good as far as that era of Steeler qb's go. I liked his fire, he just wasn't good enough.

Anyone remember that Bubby was actually pretty good as a backup QB in Denver stepping in a couple times when Elway was injured?

Yep, I also remember Shanarat telling Bubby he was going to be the starter for all of pre-season, then not starting him when the season started. Shanarat is a slimy *******, and I was happy to see him fail everywhere else he went.

I actually liked Bubby, loved his fire and attitude. He didn't exactly have great accuracy though and he unfortunately got to play on some teams that were missing some pieces.

I liked him enough to buy his jersey. Then again back in the day unless you went custom there were few options!

Although I'll probably make a few posters laugh I think Bubby was a bit like Brett Farve. He had a rocket arm, and a fiery disposition to match. Like Farve, he could make his share of boneheaded decisions. The good Lord just didn't bless him with accuracy or touch like Farve had.

Yes, I point that out once in a while and in fact he was an integral part of Denver winning the SB, he started four games I think. Overall probably the second-best QB after O'Donnell for the stretch between Bradshaw and Roethlisberger. I know I'd rather have Bubby instead of Kordell any day of the week. Back in the day, Merrill Hoge was a regular on the 'DVE Morning Show and his Bubby stories were hilarious.

Bingo. Karma sent.
