Mark Mallone, Cliff Stout, Bubby Brister

If you cockmunches on the board haven't ever endured a soul crushing game of trying to watch one of the scrubs listed above hang on to a lead, or try to get in range for a field goal, the last two games might be a bit of a new experience for you. I, however, lived though years of watching this team before we had a franchise qb. Just remember back to what these last two games felt like, multiply it by a whole ******* lot, and then try to understand why many of us want to dick punch you douchenozzles when you start ripping on Ben for not doing one or two things exactly the way you'd like him to.

That painful just for the love of God don't **** this game up so we can crawl out of here with a win feeling is what was a week to week occurrence before we found our franchise qb, and it's going to be what we get to deal with in a few years when we are looking for another one.

I thought is a **** one, marry one, and kill one question. My vote was to kill Malone. Never liked him.
 
I don't understand what eating chicken has to do with any of us, but I do remember those QBs well. Hated Malone. Absolute distain for his performance as a QB. Stout sucked, but he took us to the playoffs in 83. Bubby gave us some hope after Malone, and I think I liked him so much because he wasn't Malone.

Every single swear word I learned as a kid from my Dad was because of Mark Malone...
 
Stout was the worse IMO, Mallone is in the record book for long pass to Lipps I think...and Bubby wasn't the worst I have seen.

Are you from Wintersville, Ohio? Because back in the day, at half-time of what would become another soul crushing loss with Malone at QB, a guy from Wintersville decided he was going to do something about it. He took the quick drive up to Three Rivers and was somehow able to get into the area where the players parked their cars. I'd imagine it was much easier then. He listened to the end of the game on his radio .. and he waited. He waited until he saw Mark Malone heading for his own vehicle ... and that poor lost .. and drunk .. soul took aim, gunned his car and tried to mow Mark Malone down in the parking lot at Three Rivers.

I was a young lad barely in my teens at the time. But when the local news came on and told the story, I remember thinking "That's just how the Steelers' luck is ... can't live with the QB .. Can't kill him".
 
t-man makes good points. Maybe that's why I wasn't overly stressed at the end of the game. Been there before.

There was the guy who was so mad at Malone that he drove his car through the gate at Three Rivers, up the ramps a few levels, and plowed into the nacho cheese barrels. Back in the day Malone would frequent a sporting goods store in Cranberry that my ex-wife (then current wife) worked at and she said that in person he was very nice. Usually wore a ballcap and sunglasses so people wouldn't recognize him.

Bubby just had trouble throwing the ball when the wind was strong off the lake (he actually said that).

The all time worst game though was in '88 I think. You got watch Bubby lose to the Mark Malone led Chargers. I drank myself into a stupor during that one. Talk about feeling like there was no hope anymore.
 
I had hope one year that Steve Bono would be the answer. The list of Qb's between Brad and Ben is pretty pathetic.
 
I wasn't a Mark Malone fan either but he did take us to the AFC Championship game in 84 by beating the Broncos in Denver. Of course the following week we were shredded by the Marino-led Dolphins so they could face the 49ers in SB XVIII. One can only imagine what we could have done if the QB situtation with Miami had been reversed. Fun fact: The 49ers were 15-1 that year with the only loss coming against Pittsburgh. The down side was this gave Malone at least three more years to showcase his ineptitude.

It's a pain that can't be described, only felt. My wife is a Browns fan. Now she knows my pain from that era. She used to talk about the Kardiac Kids, and I'm going **** you, I'll die either of a heart attack or dehydration from spitting at Mallone on the TV screen.
 
Nail on the ******* head. I was telling my wife during the game last night that I had the exact feelings back in ****** days of Steeler football.
Damn I don't miss the way it felt. Every week.
 
The shittiest part of that 80's era was when the Browns had those ****** Kardiac Kids and all that bullshit. One of the best parts of that era was watching Browns fans die a little bit more with each "Fumble" and "Drive".
 
When Ben was hurt I instantly understood how it felt to be a Brown's fan. It was week 3 and we were out of it. (Thought Ben tore his acl)

Ehhh, kinda. Stoudt mainly handed the ball off to Harris, Abercrombie and Pollard. The team started 9-2, and Stoudt then lost 4 in a row before Bradshaw played his last game, throwing 3 TD passes and putting the Steelers in the playoffs with a 10-5 record. Bradshaw re-injured his elbow (an injury that nowadays would be repaired with arthroscopic surgery) in the win over the Jets, so Stoudt took over again.

He engineered a loss in the last regular season game, and a loss in the 1st round of the playoffs. Therefore, Cliff Stoudt was behind center for six consecutive Steelers defeats.

Don't forget the Houston Oilers Fight Song, "Luv Ya Blue". Man, did I loathe playing in Houston during those years....
 
My childhood was fraught with nightmares of Malone looking lost then throwing into triple coverage...poorly... and by nightmares I mean TV.... I think growing up with him at QB is why I thought Odonnel was a good QB later on... its all perspective

To show you how good we have it, in the "horrible" 80's, the Steelers made the playoffs 4 times, and made one trip to the AFC Championship Game. Those would be the glory years in Detroit.

I kid you not, with that mustache and the lost look, Laundry really does remind me of Malone... I guess that makes me wonder...have we ever tried Jones at wr.... lol

Malone never took a single snap from Dawson. He played behind Mike Webster, so your point still stands.
 
Kent Graham. There's your huckleberry. Dude was lost. He would be a third stringer in the arena league.
