Make your case. Fields or Wilson. ONLY!!! No other qb's can be included. Who would you bring back and why.

Who would you bring back.

Didn't want Wilson last year and he did nothing to change my mind. I think Fields has some upside, but still nut sure he's the future. Hopefully they can bring Justin back on a number that won't handcuff the team if the light doesn't come on.

I don’t want either. So I went with who I thought the Steelers would bring back out of the two.

For me nothing last year pointed to the Steelers having a lot of confidence in Justin.

If they shock me and bring in Justin which I said elsewhere is a slim chance, I would immediately shift gears and say round 2 or 3 a QB would be drafted. Which might come about regardless.

But middling Mike sat him down and again as I said elsewhere when the season started sliding he still wasn’t inserted.

If ye have little faith then?

Will be hard to convince me ye have faith now.

Fields. Younger. Faster. Can do things with his legs that Russ can't. Give him a 2 or 3 year deal. Get him a qb coach ... try to teach him touch and how to get some air under his long passes and not be line drives. Get someone to help him read defenses. After year one draft someone that can be his backup and possibly his replacement if he doesn't ever get it.

Wilson has passed his upside potential years ago, and now 3 teams have seen this.
Fields is younger, cheaper, has not reached his ceiling, and this season would put him back with the OC which should present greater upside.

I'd take Fields and draft a similarly skilled mobile QB on day 2, and have the QB room united in style and strengths.

Wilson - loved the signing last year as it cost almost nothing. He got the chance to show that we still had it for another short term contract. Unfortunately, I think he showed his limit within the Tomlin Mickey Mouse offense that he was forced to run. I would not sign him for starter money, but would offer him backup money @ 20 mil for 2 years + incentives that would allow him to make 30-35 mil a year if he starts. I don’t believe that he would take that deal, so would expect him to move on.

Fields - I also liked the trade, and looked forward to him and Pickett pushing each other to take over in 25. That didn’t happen because Kenny got his ***** hurt and didn’t want to compete. I also believe that Fields was never really in the running to start, since he was viewed as a reclamation project. I honestly believe he was going to be battling KP for the B/U to Wilson, or if Wilson looked bad then an opportunity to compete to start. When KP bailed, Fields got the B/U to Wilson and did what he could in his starts. I would offer him the same deal as Wilson though his would be a 4 year deal.

I would still draft a QB round 4 or later, as well as sign a couple UDFA QB’s this year no matter if they sign either of them.

Look i know they may not be the ideal. Im just looking for your opinion on the two, not what you think the steelers will do. I also agree they should or may find another qb in the draft to "coach up". But this is just about these two. Im reading a lot of opinions on the steelers will bring russ back or Fields,, etc.

Im of the opinion if i had to bring back one, im bringing back fields. But at the same time the guy needs some QB help. His running ability is a great plus. If you go back to my earlier season posts i was on team russ. But i seen enough of what russel wilson can and cant do. This offense , this line, imo id bring justin fields back.

My opinion on the two is both will disappoint. Who is better? Beats me they both faded in their starts.

It is like asking me which piece of crap you want me to sling against the wall.

Neither.

If one gets Tomlin out sooner… give me that one.

neither will get tomlin out sooner. It is what it is. Matthew Stafford and AAron Rogers will / may result the same. So ....

Case for Fields:
1. Younger
2. Better runner
3. Top 5 arm
4. Dramatically increased his advanced accuracy metrics to almost what it took lamar 7 years to achieve...

Case against Fields
1. Played in a very reduced offense and wasnt asked to make a lot of tough read and throws
2. Still fumble probe
3. Jury is out if he can consistantly read pass D
4. Not exactly a proven commodity in come from behind situations

Case For Wilson
1. Better field presence
2. Better deep ball
3. Lots of come from behind experience
4. More expanded Offense when he is in

Case against Wilson
1. Age
2. Less mobile than he used to be
3. Arm still strong, but not as strong as fields
4. Short, and as mobility continues to slow, will have harder time navigating the pocket

so you want wilson?
no wait ,, you want fields

I like fields but only if you’re going to run him!! We should have lined up in an 2 tight-end and pounded teams running the ball. We had Wilson to bring off the bench if need be. Eagles won a Super Bowl without one 300 yrd game passing it. We just didn’t use the talent we did have very well. If we had the ran Harris between the tackles, fields outside, threw short to Harris and the tightends that would have set us play action to Pickens deep. That would have been best use of our talent. Trying to make fields a pocket passer is the stupest thing the Steelers have done in awhile and they’ve done some stupid things!

Neither will get this franchise where they need to go but if I’m choosing between the two I go with Justin.
Younger, much more athletic which you need behind this OL. I think with the type of offense coach greatness wants to employ that Justin fits best. He’s coachable and seemed to work well with Arthur Smith. He’s also going to come in cheaper than Wilson which means you can use that savings elsewhere.
I liked his demeanor and professionalism last year after getting benched. Handled it like a pro and that’s says lot.
Use Justin as your bridge QB and draft your guy in the 26 draft.
If he fails and we lose 10-12 games so what. That’s what this franchise needs and you draft your guy next year.
We are not a Wilson, Stafford, Rodgers away from winning anything. All they will do is keep the mediocrity alive. Far too many holes to plug.
Go with Justin and face reality. You’re not an elite team nor are you remotely close. Recognize its rebuild time!

Fields - probably the only UFA where you can get the talent to match a top-10 pick. However, he hasn't put it together yet and I don't think the Steelers have the offensive staff to get the most out of him--they treated him like a late-round rookie QB last year.

Wilson - he's old and limited, but when his game is on the Steelers actually look like they are running an NFL offense.

At this point I really don't care, probably whoever is cheaper so they can build a better roster to set up a rookie QB to be drafted in 2026. Btw, I voted for Fields assuming they were the same price, I'd take the younger option with upside. If it doesn't work, it could mean a better draft pick.

Im sure we saw the best of Fields last year. But I know fir a fact we saw the best of Russ last year and it wasn't good enough so it's a no brainer. Fields. Won't matter though. And if they do get him there better be good escape classes.

Fields and Pickett were never on the roster at the same time. Once Wilson was signed the Fields trade only occurred because Pickett was traded.

Fields for now. He isn't the total answer to win championships but a lot like Capt Cool Shades, he's just good enough to win some games.

Russ isn't even an option at this point according to DK Sports and his insiders.
