Make your case. Fields or Wilson. ONLY!!! No other qb's can be included. Who would you bring back and why.

Justin Fields.

He was showing improvement, even being handcuffed in Tomlins ultra conservative offense. He improved on every single part of his game. He's a decade younger, so if you can tap into that potential, you may have a long term answer at the most important position on the field. He fits the offense better than Wilson, and has the escape ability to get out of trouble and turn negative plays into positive plays. He showed that ability most in the redzone, 5 rushing TD's in 6 games. Had he been the starter all year, he would have put up Hurts type rushing TD numbers.

If you bring in a legit WR2, he will have something he's never had before, a supporting cast. In Chicago he was forced to be THE MAN. He can absolutely be a Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts type guy with the right players around him. Tomlin already wants to be a run heavy team, so why not have a guy at QB that can also run the ball. It will only create easier throws in the long run if you are successful in the run game.

Worst case, he bombs... you end up drafting inside the top 15 instead of outside of 20, and you at least have a veteran back up or bridge QB for a young draft pick (whether its this year, next year, or the year after).

Wilson only has a year or two max. It paints you into a corner even further.

Great post insanity and thanks for all your great ones along the way.!!!

Nail on head with getting him a second WR for a better arsenal.

Fields is younger, faster and taller with the potential at least for more of an upside.

But let's be honest, there's still that elephant in the room.

Fields is younger. Russ is a well spoken, class guy who tried his best in Pittsburgh but I see no upside.

We really need a first class receiver.

so you want wilson?
no wait ,, you want fields
Seems like people can’t follow instructions.

Perhaps you should have said that if Fields and Wilson were the only QB’s left on the planet, who would you choose?

In that case I would choose Fielson. Lol

If he doesn’t develop more as a passer you will have two elephants in the room.

With a stampede toward failure in the second half of play.

Does it matter, Wison showed he was not the answer, give Fields same time frame. WE as a team are average, we need players we do not have. WE are not going to the second round of playoffs with our roster. We all really know this. Get another descent draft, we have the cap find players that can and want to play. Get the injury bug off the roster. This coming year we have way too many question and needs. Fields can be no worse then last year.

Wilson has better passing ability and confidence. Unfortunately his shortcomings(pun intended) are being short and no longer fast enough to compensate for it with mobility allowing teams to scheme him up. This is the single biggest factor in our offense falling apart at the end of the season. Teams loaded the middle and pressured him right in his face. They took away both the inside run and the middle of the field. Without Pickens it left no one able to beat coverage fast enough for him to make plays and his wheels are gone.

Fields is or at least was handled with kids gloves and not given the keys to the offense. It was the smart play early on as it kept us in most games. If forced to go with him or Wilson I go Fields because he has the physical tools to succeed. Hopefully his time on the bench matured him and taught him to make better for decisive reads.

Wilson would get us to .500 or better but no further without a lot of luck. Fields is boom or bust. He could get us a top 10 pick or we could win the Super Bowl if things start to click with him and they design the offense around his strengths and let him play.

Verdict in this scenario Fields.

between those two, definitely Fields, cheaper, younger, and more mobile.

Fields and Pickett were never on the roster at the same time. Once Wilson was signed the Fields trade only occurred because Pickett was traded.
I understand that. I believe that was the Steelers plan for 24 prior to KP becoming a sopping Vag

For me, Fields. I see a lot of upside in him and I think he just needs to be properly coached - the NFL is different than college. He certainly has the arm and legs. Plus, he has a mature attitude.

Fields

If you go back to those 6 games, you can see he was getting comfortable in the offense. Then we yank the rug from under him and insert Russ' old ***. Then change up the offense.

I'd 100% bring back Fields, but I'd also hire a proven QB guru. I'd additionally entertain the idea of asking Ben to help Justin develop. If anyone can show Justin how, it's Ben. On his podcast, he refers to the Steelers as "we", so he has a personal stake in the team. I'd put a lot of eggs into the basket of developing Justin, because there's simply not a QB in this draft who is better than he is or can be. Next year, maybe Arch Manning. But then we're also not likely drafting #1 overall.

As I've said before, bring in some good vets to help the WR room along. My first choice is Josh Palmer from San Diego - he has #1 attributes and is in a numbers game in the Chargers offense. Also a FA. Aside from that, I'd also consider trading for Garrett Wilson. Jets are a mess right now with no QB and could be enticed to trade him. Linking him back up with Fields might pay huge dividends. If it doesn't then Wilson is a FA after next year. So, essentially a one-year rental for a good young WR.

Build the offense around Justin's current abilities. Then stretch those as he expands his comfort zone.

I go with Justin if those are my only choices. More mobile, younger, potential to improve if he actually gets some decent coaching. Has enough to win the Tomlin Super Bowl - 9-8 season and bounced in the first round, if they make it at all.

Fields…
1. He should be more affordable.
2. He is more mobile. Very important behind our OL.
3. He may get better. Wilson is not getting better or younger.

I'd go with who can be the best pocket passer.
I've already seen several years of an amazing running back playing qb in Lamar Jackson. They still went home empty handed in the playoffs.

I'd rather have a great OL and a pocket passer who can scramble, who only runs when he absolutely has to.

The offense must be built on timing and precision.....ahhh ****,the Steelers will literally never do that.

I guess Fields, so they can work on the running game more and hope the hell the run blocking on the OL can move above the mark. They have a stud C and now they need the tackles to perform.

If it all goes to **** they'll be set up to take a shot at a top 10 rd1 qb in the next draft. So far Manning would be my target.

Moving the chains with the Fields of dreams…………………..

A step in the right direction.

Now Justin, show me you’re PRO-Action…….. get that QB Guru help this off-season and bring him into the season with you. Talk to Tomlin that aspect and most importantly get that ability put in contract writing as well. Language such as “Guru” is of your choice, “Guru” is not a Steelers employee but has open access to and must be treated as a liaison between with hands on and input privileges.

Didn't want Wilson last year and he did nothing to change my mind. I think Fields has some upside, but still nut sure he's the future. Hopefully they can bring Justin back on a number that won't handcuff the team if the light doesn't come on.
pretty much where i'm at. give the guy a full season and see what happens. prolly the best all-around option we have at this point. cheaper, younger, faster and still has some potential given the circumstances.

that pretty much defines the rest of free agency and draft approach, improve the running game.

If Fields ever learns to sell the Play Action he could be a very valuable QB for this grinding offense

When I was looking over statistics I remember that he didn’t do well with play action passing.

I wish I could have some of the faith some others have but I think he is LJ light not sure he will be more than that..

I'll take LJ light over KPv2

Of course.

But when there is better options it just reeks of more bad Steelers decision making.
