Yes, there is no questioning he had a rough sophomore season. Sophomore slump a lot of people call it. I also don’t believe the comparison to Claypool is going to stick with Thomas for the remainder his career. The ankle and wrist problems started in week 8. His numbers were pretty crappy up till then already. His best game all season was 8 grabs for 90 yards and a Td... one of only two he scored last season...
He is in his third year... teams dont cut bait with a guy one season removed from that kind of rookie season without good reason... they have receivers, but no real star type per se... There are plenty of articles questioning his lack of physical play and focus before those injuries... he outright dropped 10 balls... and had a huge fail rate on contested balls... he couldnt pick up the new offense and the QB quit targeting him because his routes werent great... honestly he sounds more abd more like chase claypool as I read all this stuff
My point is he has proven he could play at a very high level in the NFL
Also, adding to my opinion, is that there is only one wire receiver I would take at 21, and you never know what you’re gonna get with a rookie, the unknown is extremely difficult to gauge. in addition, we need someone who is going to provide real value now, like day one!
If we don’t trade for Thomas, I am a big proponent of looking at acquiring a proven NFL quality receiver through free agency before the season starts. Particularly Doubs and/or Pierce. As well as drafting two more wide receivers next month, as I mentioned in previous post.
