I like playing another QTR in the playoffs, unless that QTR ends in a tie. Then you have the same problem.

The sure fire way to fix it is an adjusted College OT system. Each team starts on the 35 and gets a chance to score. FG or TD. If a TD is scored, you have to go for 2.

I know some college purists hate the OT rule, but I love it. It's exciting, and it adds to the drama of the game. Also with our QB and our skill players, I push for this rule HARD right now. We'd have a great chance of winning OTs under those rules. Fantasy fans would get the extra benefit of a QB adding a couple extra TDs in OT, or skill players/ kickers increasing their scores. It's a win win win all around!

Way better than the, "hey what are the rules again?" "they scored so they win right?" "no that was a FG, so the other team has a chance to score now"
"But in this game the game was over when they scored a TD" "Yup" "So why doesn't the other team get to touch the ball when they can after the other team scores a FG??"
"Wait, the QB just got sacked in the endzone" "The game is over" I'm confused...

WTF?

You know, I'm tired of this talking point, or more specifically, whining point about the OT rules because of Packer QBs and former Packer QBs. They changed OT once just because old man Favre didn't touch the ball in OT in the '09 Championship game against the Saints. So they put the new OT rules in play for the '10 playoffs. The first ever result of those rules? Tebow stings the Steelers ****** secondary in one play of OT and nobody says one ******* word about Ben not being able to touch the ball in OT. Now, the Packers need two hail marys in one drive to tie the game and once again, everyone is ******* crying cause Rodgers didn't touch the ball in OT. Here's the reality, he touched the ball all friggen game long. I find this idea that "he didn't get a chance" rather stupid. He had his chance and he lost.

If t*mmy b*y says change the rule, I say go for it. **** arron boy.

Salute the nation

Oh poor ******* Rodgers didn't get to touch the ball. Hey how about holding the other team to a FG and not letting them score a TD, or win the ******* game in regulation where Rodgers gets to touch the ball plenty.

I understood the change to requiring the first team to score a TD to end the game. If they only have to score a FG, that puts the kicking team in a much worse position because it makes the field way shorter for a win. Hated seeing a team get a FG and it ends the game. "Just stop them" makes way more sense when you get to defend the whole field rather than just a portion of it.

What he said - if you needed two hail Marys to tie in regulation and your defense can't keep them from scoring a TD on the first possession, maybe you weren't the best team out there regardless of who your QB is.

One more thing - if all he wanted to do was touch the ball, let him have it after the game. Nuf sed.

**** this and the OT changes emphasizing fairness. If you don't want to lose in OT, don't let the score be tied at the end of regulation.

How about they just let the game continue from the end of the 4th Quarter? No kickoff, the game continues until the tie is broken.

The owners may discuss this during their off season meeting but I don't think they will change the format for overtime.

Yep I didn't hear a word about Ben not getting a shot in the Tebow game. These storylines only come up when some media darling player is on the wrong side of it. Nothing to see here, move along

college OT sucks ***...

you want to touch the ball in OT...stop the other team....

I know we disagree about OT rules. We've done it before. I personally would rather have sudden death than what we currently have. The current rules are the worst and most confusing overtime rules in all of professional sports.

Tough ****. No to a full additional quarter. What happens when that doesn't decide it? Another full quarter?

They need to leave the pro game alone. There are enough rule changes as it is

If he wanted to touch the ball again, they should have went for 2 pt instead of the extra pt. think about it, it's a 50/50 that your going to win the coin toss. so if your going off the fact that whoever wins it, will score a TD. then you have the same 50/50 chance that you get the 2 pt conversion. they had all the momentum at the end of that game and had them reeling. I would have went for 2.

Exactly. If you're going to rely solely on your offense, try scoring more points than the other team in regulation.

I think each team should get a possession.

I say scratch all the overtime rules in the playoffs. If a game is tied then each time nominates one player to fight to the death on the 50 yard logo.

I can't stand college football's OT. It may be exciting, but doesn't feel like the same game that was played for the previous 60 minutes. The rules are fine the way it is, but if you want a change, each team gets one possession then sudden death after that.

Check that. Regulation ends 24-24 and the final is 52-51.

I have always said the fair thing is to run 7 minute quarters until somebody wins.

The NFL should not have ties. Ever.

Also, there should be a 4 point conversion from the 10 yard line for TD + field goal games.

How about playing an entire quarter but with no XPs each team must go for the 2 pt conversion. Then if it ends in a tie use the current system.

Football is the only one of the four major American pro sports that doesn't have an extra period of some sort, or doesn't give the other team a chance on offense (as in baseball).

Considering that it's by far the most popular - and richest - sport, this needs to be corrected.

The overriding point Lupica is making is that the coin toss needs to go, or at least be minimized. What happened last weekend with the "coin that didn't flip" illustrates the absurdity of the situation.
