Live Le’Veon Bell News

I tried to look this up and coudn't find anything regarding this rule. Very curious.

no, he collects 14,5M / 16 for each played game. So around 900k per game played after signing the tag

Bell’s agent released a statement that “Bell wanted to retire as a Steeler, but the Steelers were only offering to pay for the position and not the player”

That gives you the insight.....this was all LeVeon’s decision. His agent wanted him to sign last year and this past winter, his mother (lifetime Steeler fan) begged him to sign last year. He was offered 13.3/ year with 30 million the first two. He balked at it.

It is what it is....Ego, youth, and self confidence. The chances of it biting him is much greater now, than had he signed. That 1.5/ year will look silly if he gets injured and misses the payday.

EDIT: 1st 2 years were 30 mil guaranteed not 60.

Can we still rescind his tag?

I would wait until he signs the tag and trade him for whatever they can get. And I would be looking at available free agents come cutdown.

Now I pray I don't have to see this SOB in a Steelers uniform again.

Good move by the Steelers to not sign him to 14+ million long-term. That deal would have killed them in future years with the cap and his production will start to decline in a year or two. Couple the additional high usage on his body along with his financial security leading to less commitment and that deal would have been a nightmare.

Hope we can trade him to someone who needs a diva in their lineup and hopefully, James Conner can become his replacement.

Who's going to trade for him? More importantly, who has the capability of trading for him?

The sign and trade could have happened before the draft. Look at what the Dolphins gained for trading Landry. I think if Bel wanted to be moved, we could have got at least a 3rd round pick for him and spent 14.5 million elsewhere.

now is time to work on those phones and look for a sign and trade that makes Bell money-happy and the Steelers talent-happy (that includes draft picks)

He'll get his wish and end up on the market. I'm a Steelers fan first and foremost, they couldn't cripple themselves to keep him even if he is the best back in the league. They offered him more than a fair deal and he passed. When he gets in, run his *** into the ground and try to get the title this year. Without him next year they have a lot of work to do to even be a contender. This is where the business always ends up interfering when you have an all time talent, now days even more so. I'm not really mad at either of them, business is business.

if he really wanted to retire a Steeler 13M would have been more than enough, it would have been elevating the RB position to a new market echelon. So all in that statement is bullshit. He just want more money. Hope you get what you want, hope the team gets a new ring

He just might be the most hated great player the Steelers ever had. I can see him getting booed every home game.....or at least until he starts racking up the yards rushing and receiving and scoring a bunch of TDs that is. Good for Bell for holding his ground.....but better for the Steelers for holding their ground. Props to the FO.

"Please sign and trade" will be my new saying from here on out.

Glad he's greedy and glad the Steelers didn't overpay other than his absurd 14.5 million dollar tag. I hope the other backs play so well they can cut his *** loose.

Bell can't be moved until he signs his tender (which will be right after our 3rd preseason game like last year). Then the Steelers have a 6week window in which they can trade him to another team, if the deal is right for our team, and Samuels/Conner fit well in the new offensive scheme.

Steelers can withdraw the tag at anytime before Bell signs it.

dont you think that if a trade gets approved by the three sides wouldn't he inmediately sign it?

What would they get as a comp a 3rd?

I would think anything better than that would be a worthwhile trade.

I would be on the phones with Bell's agent and some teams right now..........

He will miss the payday.

If he were the player we all know and love for 16 games a year, weren't a drug suspension risk, didn't have a history of season-ending injuries, and didn't have an insane workload his entire career, then sure maybe he'd get it. But any smart GM is not giving him what he wants, especially next year, after another year of CMT running him into the ground.

That being said, sure there are stupid front offices out there. So hell maybe he WILL get his extra $1.5M per year, and do it on a 5 or 6 win team. Maybe then he will realize that he and he alone was never worth the dollar amount he was demanding, and that he is made better by the guys around him. Oh well

Definitely, That was also the only scenario that they could move him before/on draft day this year. Though I don't think it is likely now. Since the Steelers hold all the rights now, the move is mostly up to them. They don't have to move Bell, and probably aren't actively shopping him, but if the Jets throw out a silly offer, we just might take it.

He's locked into a 1 year contract now, so the agent has less incentive to move Bell this year. They won't be making deals on his behalf, since it means they aren't getting any more money out of him this year.

Steelers are in no hurry, and someone has to make a sick offer to get him now. Might even take more than 2 firsts now. If a team is desperate enough, has the cap space, and draft picks to burn, it would be way better than the 3rd round comp they get for losing him in FA next year.

There still is value in having the most diverse all around back in the league this year, and not having any of his money on the books next year!

He obviously wanted the more money a lot more than retiring as a Steeler. I don't blame the players for trying to get the most money they can. I'm all for it. But you got to smart about it and Bell wasn't, imo.
Now, the selfish me wants for him to sign the tag, play the whole season, and come here to Atlanta so I can see them get #7 live and in person!! Cause there is no one else with his talent on this roster or they can pick up somewhere else to win it all this season!

He will be more of a distraction than a help. And you trade him after signing a tag that money is off the books.

So means little to me if that happens this year or next.

I don't think this guy is going to risk injury knowing for a fact he won't be here next year.

I know he and the FO will talk a good game, but when it matters the most he will come up lame watch.

I rather not have that risk, and get what they can after the sign.

That's hilarious. They offered him somewhere around $14 million per. The next highest paid running back is in the $8 to 9 million range. He was offered 50% more than the next highest paid RB and he was only be paid for the position? SMH

There is no doubt in my mind Bell will be a major distraction this year and possibly a cancer in the locker room. It sucks they realistically won't be signing him and trading him so we can get something out of his greedy ***.

The agent (and Bell) couldn't be anymore wrong. The Steelers were prepared and made an offer last year to set the market by a significant amount and there were reports this year that offer went even higher.
