Le’Veon Bell to Skip OTA’s

That should get done soon thanks to that same collective bargaining agreement that set up this stalemate with Bell. Part of that deal included caps and slotting on rookie contracts that limited what young players could be paid, pushing it instead toward veteran players.
But as part of the unintended consequences of that CBA, teams figured out they could find cheap labor at running back with young players they didn’t need to pay a lot of money.
Bell wants to change that. And if he had an opportunity to reach the open market, he probably would. Going into free agency this year, his franchise tag salary ranked 40th in the NFL in terms of compensation in 2018.
Now that we’ve gone through free agency and the draft, his salary ranks 47th. Of the players ahead of him, 22 are quarterbacks, which is understandable. But does anyone seriously think Blake Bortles, Andy Dalton or Joe Flacco are better players or more valuable to their teams than Bell?
If not those guys, how about Carolina’s Kawann Short, a good, not great, player, who had 7.5 sacks last season? He’ll make $16.1 million this season.
Or maybe Sammy Watkins, who is being paid $16 million this season after catching a combined 57 passes the past two seasons? That’s 26 fewer than Bell had in 2017 alone.
Jarvis Landry will make $15.1 million from Cleveland this year. He won’t come anywhere near the 112 catches he had last season in Miami, though the Browns might be disappointed if he only has 987 yards or averages 8.8 yards per catch as he did last season.
Fact of the matter is, for what he means to his team, Bell deserves to make the kind of money he’s making — if not more — when compared to other star players. Brown knows that, as well.
That’s why he and the rest of the Steelers don’t have an issue with the running back not being at OTAs or skipping training camp. They know he answered the bell last season — no pun intended — leading the league with 406 touches.

"He’s always highly conditioned. We know that he is going to be taking care of his body and putting himself in high condition,” Brown said. “That’s one thing about Le’Veon that makes him special. He takes this game serious. There is never a question or doubt about his game about being physically ready. I know when he walks in the building and whenever he shows up you know what you are going to get. You are going to get a guy who’s ready to take 400-500 carries. A guy who is willing to run and catch the ball. A guy who can do it all.”
• The running back position is underpaid in the league right now, but as I’ve written before, that will change soon, starting next year.
If the Steelers don’t get a long-term deal worked out with Bell this year, he’ll be a free agent again next year at 27. And as things currently stand, so will Arizona’s David Johnson.
Anybody think those two guys are getting signed for $8.25 million per year, the current top average salary for a long-term deal for a running back? That’s not happening.
Todd Gurley, Ezekiel Elliott and Leonard Fournettewill soon follow into free agency. And Elliott and Fournette are already making more than $6 million per year each on their rookie deals

^^Great post. So true. It will be interesting to see if anyone pays Bell the $ he wants, then Bell turning into one of the guys mentioned above, meaning his production declines. Will he fall into the pool of players who sign huge contracts then never reach their greatest years ever again?

I would say that's highly likely.

Just read Bell wants $17 million per season and isn't budging.
It's ALL over everywhere.

So he's that delusional that he thinks he twice as good as the next RB in the league?
GTFO!

Bye, Felicia.

Johnson Gurley Elliot will be asking and getting around the same when their contracts are up.. all players who do similar things as Bell

He probably is but for that pesky salary cap. The way the rules are now it simply makes more sense to spend your money on WR's.

If he want's $17M it looks like that team will use him as a full time wildcat QB.

Got to get your money's worth!

I cannot wait to see Coach T run the absolute piss out of Leveon, and then let him walk. I’m beyond eager to find out how JaySam plays out. He could take on the roll that Bell ******* about because he’s already switched positions his entire football life. Jaylen is well spoken, humble, and ready to do whatever we want him to do. Make Bell squirm.

Excited!

You’re right. They can all ask for $20 million/year and hold their breath and stomp their feet. Doesn’t mean it’s going to happen. And yep. We’re gonna give Me’Veon 400+ touches this season and let some morons like the Redskins, Raiders, or Clowns give him his 20M/year contract. Next man up here.

Doesn't anyone here KNOW how used up LeVeon Bell is??????? You I can't touch the rock that much and not eventually feel the beating. He is due but I hope he makes it through this season and we don't bite on the 17mil.. He is on the down hill side of his career and yet so young........... Some might say he is tough / conditioned / gifted / whatever.......... The rock catches up to yaz, like it or not. ASK fast5 Willie Parker he thought he was invincible similar to what BELL thinks he is today..........that and priceless or should I say priceMORE.

This will all be fun when the cba ends. A lot of stupid **** needs to change on both sides. All the deeper pockets have to do is wait it out. This side of professional sports sucks ***.

One and done last year.

Maybe, but remember he's only played two full seasons in five years. :crutch:

I hear yaz Ron but also realize he has surpassed by far the # touches that the body can take. His 2 full years are probably like equal to 4 year career with injury thrown in.

Bell and his tweet and raps and whatever he feels is so cute needs to be shown the door. 17 million please, enough already.

He'll skip training camp too. Just like last year. The worst thing the team could do is give into his demands. Based on how he operates, they'd give in and sign him for 5 years and 17 million per and after two years he'd be holding out again for a new contract worth 20 million per.

Sorry, after two years he'll be on IR and recovering. I don't want him resigned for anykind of money unless 3yr 9.5mil/yr first two GAURANTEED.

There's no chance in hell he would even consider signing for basically half the amount he's looking for.

You guys like to make Bell a "Target". Give him some slack for once.

You know it, I know it, but most importantly the STEELERS know it too and hopefully won't fall to paying him his demand. He can gain employment elsewhere and let the NEW FRANCHISE pay him the big bucks along with the cap hell it brings.

Don't get me wrong as he is pretty good at what he does but NOT so good he demands twice market or #1 WR money as the NFL just isn't geared that way. AND no, he isn't a wide receiver.

Bell's action on his social media spouts, he deserve zero slack. Is mouth and his demands of 17 million will be his down fall no matter what you think his ability is.

Would you leave Giselle if you didn't have to?

lol yeah, because giselle is totally drop-dead gorgeous and doesn't have her looks overrated at all
gisele-bundchen-no-makeup-300x300.jpg

dont get me wrong, gisele isn't ugly, and she's reasonably pretty if she's dolled up. but the way some of us average joes fawn over her because "she's a victoria's secret model, dyoood!" is absurd. hell, there are multiple girls in the A/R office at my work who smoke her in the looks dept.

i think gisele is good looking. Without the makeup she looks pretty and plain which is my type. Alot of women guys drool over look hideous without makeup. My friend and i went to some convention several years ago and one of the wrestling divas was there. She was unrecognizable and just nasty looking. We didn't even bother getting the autograph. There are definitely girls i see I everyday life that are much more attractive than some of these models
