Le’Veon Bell to Skip OTA’s

I think, before the last couple of years, the RB had lost a lot of value. Now you are getting players like Bell, Gurly, etc. who can redefine the position and it is becoming more important. How much more valuable is it to be able to have a 3 down back? Seems pretty valuable to me not to have to shift your RB player and still have the playbook wide open.

When compared to the 4 "best" RB going into the 2017 season, Bell's stats for the first 4 games were not significantly different than the other 3. You might say, infinitely, better than David Johnson....

And thats the issue to me wanting to compare him to the other backs who dont do what he does..

Curious about something, and it may be nothing because I haven't seen it mentioned.

Currently Bell is not under contract, so he has no contact with the team, no OTA's, no camp, no preseason, and will start the season physically out of game shape. But with the new OC, will there be a new playbook as well? Does Bell have a copy? I realize his running style improvizes a lot, but if he doesn't know the terminology, will he be mentally behind as well?

Good question and i fear this as well. But i would think he has a copy. But i also think Connor and Ridley Samuels will have us in a better position til he is up to speed.

Like i said i see it from both sides. Bell has to do whats best for him and so do the steelers.

Well, I'm not so sure he has a copy or not. Would they give a copy to someone not under contract and who may not sign that contract until later in the year or the team, for injury reasons, may pull the tag?

Oh, I'd be the offense isn't so "different" that it can't be picked up pretty easily by an experienced veteran.

Agreed with antdrew that RB is becoming more valuable. Look what Gurley, Kamara, and Hunt did for their offenses last year. Barkley will do the same for his. And Bell for us, but that's nothing new.

I can't agree that Bell is the best player on our offense, or the straw that stirs the drink, though. Ben is the straw - without him, it all falls apart. And AB is the best player on our offense. AB might be the best wide receiver since Jerry. He does everything without the benefit of being a speed/size/weight room freak. Pure hard work, skill, and execution unlike any other.

I say the straw because to me its a better offense when we make him the focal point. Everyone can still eat but its seems better when he is the focal point. When we come out passing our offense is not as effective or efficient to me.

Except when Bell was either hurt or suspended. The offense seemed to run ok. Right.?

It's at it's best when Ben is at his best. And a Franchise QB is the hardest to replace..................

No not really it didnt.. Afc championship game vs the Patriots come to my mind. Lost to the ravens in the playoffs.

That i will agree with when he is at his BEST.

I’m not even mad or annoyed at Bell anymore. Im over it.

Now I’m just looking forward to the time when he’s another team’s headache.

And I could say the same about Bell, When he is at his best.

Which left us with one consistent player, AB.

Lol....so if Ben wasn't available in those games and Jones was our QB do you think we would have won even if Bell was playing? Seriously

No im saying you need all three and the offense runs better with all three with Bell being the focal point. Rather then when we have all three and we are pass happy.

Eagles won without a RB being the focus, same with the Pats. And we could go on and on and on.

Bell had one season that he played every game, one.

I get that Bell is your preference.

But nothing screams that should be everyone else's.

Yes they did and their QBs consistently played well. And put up points. But i know that was Haley and the red zone play calling.

We will see this year...

I garauntee you that neither of those two will come into week 1 rusty and out of synch. Bell will. Mountain out of a molehill.
You and I have different memories of early season readiness, but that wasn't the point. If you want to be leader and talk about how important OTAs are, then show up. It takes away from the team prep when the first team isn't in there.

And it gives the younger guys more reps....you can't have that.

OTA's aren't as important as camp. Ben and AB will be at camp and will be ready to start the regular season. Bell will not. It will take him several weeks to get up to speed just like last year.

You mean like the Jacksonville game in the playoffs? This team lives and dies by Roethlisberger as much as it kills you to admit that.

If Ben doesn't excel we can still win. If Ben completely ***** up (See Jax 1 and Jax 2), the team will have a hard time winning.
