Le’Veon Bell Should Report Today or Tomorrow

Well, I don't know if he would be a nightmare. Blount, Moss and Gordon seem like they were/are contributors while keeping their mouths shut. I do think if Bell gets his money, he will be a good boy since he would be getting paid "his worth". He gets on a crappy team and is losing, then you may hear him gripe, but I doubt it. It's all about the Benjamins with him.
I meant a nightmare for opposing teams.

Doesn’t sitting out the whole year put him right back in the same situation he was in last offseason? He won’t get a third tag because he never fulfilled his second tag. He will try to hardball the Steelers, get nowhere because he’s greedy and Conner is better than he is anyway, get “second tag” money again, sit out again etc in perpetuity until he never makes another cent playing football. If he doesn’t show up he is *idiotic*

Next years tag would be worth 25mil which we won’t be giving him so essentially he will be a free agent or we would put the transition tag on him which I don’t see happening either now that Conner has shown what he is capable of. They will allocate that money elsewhere now.

Again if he sits out the whole season he didn't fulfill his obligations for this season so how does he get the third franchise tag? If he comes back for the last 6 games yes.

Not sure how they will use Bell, but if you force teams to have to prepare for both Conner and Bell the rest of the season,
the Steelers have an advantage.

I’m going off what the article says and according to the collective bargaining agreement...

‘A source confirmed to The Athletic that Bell is now contemplating whether or not he will show up by the Nov. 13 franchise tag deadline based on newly learned information from the collective bargaining agreement that would allow him to be deemed as a third-year franchise player in 2019 rather than to revert to the second, even if he doesn’t sign the tag this season.’

his smart move (for him) would be to just sit this season out.
why come back for such little change when he can take a season, get his body in peak condition then sign somewhere in the off-season ***under the transition tag, no doubt*** ?
if he were to come back now, get his $850k for the remainder of the regular season, and possibly get hurt, he's damaged goods in the off-season. he needs to also consider his injuries have been fluke, but did occur and can occur again. no doubt if he signs now, he's placed on the exempt list and doesnt collect two paychecks. he may as well sit out the whole season.

I’m guessing this what he ultimately ends up doing. I don’t think we’d get the full dynamic Le’Veon if he does play anyhow.

He never had a plan. It was King LeVeon just doing whatever, and it was right because he's LeVeon. Dude is retarded

The problem is placing your bet that the 2nd Tag won't be voided for not showing up. There is no clear definition either way, but would you bank your decision on a hypothetical? If he's wrong and holds out, he's back to square ******* one next year, which is a complete failure of his agent. If they're right, and he qualifies for the 3rd tag, The Steelers could still possibly tag him.

At $25M, $14.4 from this year pays toward it, and he'd only cost $10.6M in actual money. If that value can be turned into 2 first round draft picks, you take it.

if he doesn't sign his contract, then the Steelers could essentially say this next contract is his second franchise tag, pointing to an unsigned franchise contract for this season.
though his agent, the obvious brainiac of this tweedle-dee tweedle-dum duo, won't see it that way.

Cope correct me if am wrong but after reading through this horribly written policy it seems to me the compensation would be a 1 and 3 not 2 1's. So confusing.

The 2 week exemption counts for him in regards to weeks on the roster this year. An article today on ESPN (I think it was) said there is now a question as to how the CBA is or will be interpreted if he doesn't show up in regards to next year. Most have been saying if he doesn't sign by next Tuesday, the tag moves to next year as it was this year. Now, this article states some think even if he doesn't sign and play this year, next year will count as the 3rd year for him being tagged and the pay will be 120% of QB money. I think that is BS but you can guarantee Bell and his agent and the NFLPA will take it to court to get a ruling.

If i was interpreting the cba id say that the fact that it repeatedly refers to the value of the players last contract means that for most things if the player sits out all season and never signs a contract tender its as if that season never happened rights wise...
now there is an interpretation that the team uses the franchise rights extention so its cumulative on times used by the team, but im not sure its clear....

The NFLPA will argue it as a 3rd tag, not as a nul 2nd's tag.

According to article 10, section 2 subsection ai:

if the Club
extends the Tender pursuant to this Subsection (a)(i), the player shall be permitted to
negotiate a Player Contract with any Club as if he were a player subject to Section 5
below, except that Draft Choice Compensation of two first round draft selections shall
be made with respect to such player in the event he signs with the New Club, and the
Signing Period for such player shall be determined under Section 14 below.

So at least it's in writing.

That is definitely the perspective the league will take, and it's my interpretation as well. NFLPA will argue the amount of times the FT was used to up the value.

When is his next drug test?

This is a great point. What if he gets suspended for positive drug test? He’d be suspended a year so would he have to wait until 2020 to test free agency or could the Steelers state he didn’t fulfill his 2018 season requirements, reinstate him the end of 2019 and then tag him at the 14.5 million for 2020?

Nope next one he gets suspended for 4 games since he loopholed his way out of the test he missed... he didn’t fail it, he claimed he got the message late, and he did take the test, just a day late, which merits a suspension...

Ya know, the fans here seem to have been brain-washed quite a bit on Bell.

I mean if we're crowning Conner's ***, after half of one damn season, i ask you, tell me why didn't you crown Dri Archer's ***? He had a pre-season.

There is some major league smack talk goin on here after like, what, 8 games against the shittiest of teams: 2 Browns, a Shitcinnati, Falcons and a Bucaneer! I mean what-the-**** people? Why would you lionize one guy who's yet to prove anything and turn on another guy so goddamn quickly? Bell has been an all-pro for years now. He's proven. I get that his value would be diminished because he smokes ganga but.. what in the hell?!

Uhhh did you compare James Conner to Dri Archer??? I didn’t read anymore after that.

Top 3 dumbest comments I have ever read on this board.

Cope there is subsequent language about this that seem to limit the compensation in this instance. It seem he is limitied in how he can be designated as a franchise player and lowers his compensation.

The relevant line :
If such a player is redesignated as a Franchise Player for the League Year following the League Year in which he does not play, the player may be designated only under Section 2(a)(i) above, except that Draft Choice Compensation of only one first round draft selection and one third round draft selection shall be made with respect to such player in the event he signs with the New Club.

Full text for context:

Section 15. Signing Period for Franchise Players:

(a) In the event that a player who is designated and tendered as a Franchise Player has not signed a Player Contract with a Club by the Tuesday following the tenth week of the regular season, at 4:00pm New York time, the player shall be prohibited from playing football in the NFL for the remainder of that League Year, absent a showing to the Impartial Arbitrator of extreme Club or extreme personal hardship. The determination of the Impartial Arbitrator shall be made within five days of the application, and shall consider all information relating to such hardship submitted by such date. The determination of the Impartial Arbitrator shall be final and binding upon all parties.

(c) If any Franchise Player does not play in the NFL in a League Year, his Prior Team shall have the right to designate such player as a Franchise Player or a Transition Player the following League Year, if such designation is otherwise available to the Team, except that the applicable Tender must be made and any 120% Tender shall be measured from the Player’s Prior Year Salary. If such a player is designated as a Franchise Player for a third time, the terms of Section 2(b) above shall apply. If a Franchise Player who has sufficient Accrued Seasons to become an Unrestricted Free Agent is not designated as a Franchise Player or Transition Player for any League Year immediately following a League Year in which he does not play, then on the first day of that League Year, the player becomes an Unrestricted Free Agent and is completely free to negotiate and sign a Player Contract with any Club, and any Club is completely free to negotiate and sign a Player Contract with such player, without penalty or restriction, including, but not limited to, Draft Choice Compensation between Clubs or First Refusal Rights of any kind, or any signing period.

I don't know about Crowning anyone. It's pretty clear and by pretty clear I mean completely obvious that Bell and the Steelers are done with each other. Now going into the season I felt the Steelers would need to spend a 1 or a 2 on a RB next year. Barring an injury I don't feel that way anymore. Do you?
