Leveon Bell is Adrian Peterson

Don't go posting cold hard facts, someone is going to be upset that Bell is being overpaid.

People are upset every year because the Steelers overpay players. Just about every player who's gotten a big contract with the team was said to be "too much" by at least a small group. They can sit at home and worry about the salary cap, I want to watch some of the best in the game play at Heinz Field on Sundays.

They are 15 under now but the issue becomes in a multi year deal if they are paying him 10 plus next year you have to sign other players like Shazier, Tuitt etc.

The cap increases each year, and it has been significant these past couple years. Like $10-$14M per season. No problems signing all of them.

This is also the first time the Steelers aren't smashed up against the cap in 2 decades. They have a talented roster, they didn't bust the bank on FAs, so they can resign whoever they want!

Yeah let him walk or overpay....

Are we really having this discussion?

We have in our possession a transcendent & once in a lifetime player here & we are afraid to overpay? :wtf:

He will get his....with the cap going up every year like it is the last couple of seasons we will sign all of the guys we want to sign no matter what size of a contract it is. It comes down to bonus money. Will the Steelers pony up in that area.

If Bell stays healthy and keeps his nose clean, he will make everyone forget about the other guy mentioned in this post.

Steelers should pay him, but its not my money.

wait....does this mean Bell is going to beat one of his kids now?????

Pay the man NOW........

3 years and 10+ per. If you get into 5 and 10+ per you will badly regret those last 2. And Im guessing that is the general sticking point here. They dont mind paying him for when he will produce but they know he is on a pitch count.

As long as they have a competent backup, there is no reason Tomlin shouldn't treat him like he does the defensive linemen and outside linebackers. There is no reason to have him carry the ball 300+ times. Will Tomlin do that? Doubt it.

Well as much as I hate Blount. He was right. Now what he did was wrong and he will be dead to me forever because of tgat. But he really should have been a 10 touch a game player. The problem is that the Steeelers get in panic mode in November which is really the difference between them and the Pats. The Pats survive a C effort in October and the Steelers dont. Plus there is always a true contender in the AFC north. Not so much in the East. The effort expended and the damage done to players to make the playoffs is too high.

If Conner is as advertised they need to schedule his carries and live with it. If they get a substantially lead, he closes it out.

Really not hard to understand Bell is the best all around back in the league and its hard to sit him since his skillset fits every possible scenario

BUT if you get tackled 20-25 times a game by NFL defenders you will get hurt and you will lose performance. That is inevitable. **** we have already seen this movie before. Jerome Bettis would completely dominate games in October and November. He would look unstoppable. Come January he was mostly used up and was at about 2/3 of capability. How many seasons did that happen.

Then the best option would be to give a good signing bonus and backload the contract with high salaries for years 4 and 5. That way, If he loses productivity, we gain cap money by letting him go.

Coach Tomlin can hold many things,........but he can't hold wheels.

Use Murray's contract as a example murray has of last year had 4 years base at 25.5 with 12.5 guaranteed. Murray is just a few notches below bell, both hard nosed in between tacklers with great speed, and excellent ability to catch out of the back field or be spit out. Lets use a 25% sample as a inflation and risk factor with bell as bell is the best all around back.b
we offer 4 years with inflation and bell being better at 25 % vs murray we are in 2017 up to 8 mill as base salary, giving knee injuries and off field we offer 10 mill even 4/40 with 12.5 mill as SB

I think if it was 4 at 10 per that deal would have been done along time ago. Pretty sure he is looking at the AB contract and wanting to redefine the position.

its likely 4 years 60 that bell side wants and they are stuck somewhere between 45-50, up the SB and try to reach a deal at 4 / 53 14 mill SB

Just can't see us offering more than 10 million per. The next closest is 8. Say he wants 12 per, why would you pay a 50% premium for a guy, even if he is in the top 3 at his position. It makes zero business sense. Bell got lucky with still having Peterson's contract on the books for his franchise tag. His tag number was supposed to jump next year but won't go anywhere. The Steelers can just tag him for 2 years in a row if he wants something ridiculous and then see if he has any wheels left. He'd be better off taking 4 or 5 years for 10 million per with a good signing bonus than risking the franchise tag for 2 years. Tomlin will run him until his wheels truly do fall off. Why not if he is only playing on a one year contract.

I think it's a chicken or the egg deal... is it bell being great or the blocking??? Everywhere munch has coached the line has been great and the running game puts up big numbers. If bell was to leave tomorrow we'd find another back and he would put up Eddie George kind of numbers just like bell... play munch if your going to play anyone but I wouldn't break the bank to pay bell.

I think Bell is a special player. Just not sure if you want to pay that kind of money in a position that has almost guarenteed injury particularly in the way you use him. If Im Colbert Id sit down with Tomlin and ask what his plan is.

Thats easy to see yes Deangelo Williams was good but there was a noticeable drop off from Bell to Williams

Not enough that DWill shouldnt have gotten 8-10 touches per game. Unfortunately through dumb losses the Steelers have to win out starting in November.

Not to mention williams was hurt.

Tomlin's plan...................run him till the wheels fall of.........about two more years so the double franchise tag would do it.
