An unbelievable and overused back. Bell really deserves to get paid and he will, I just don't think it should be by this team. Steelers are at a crossroads with him. Clearly he doesn't want a long term deal that makes good money sense to the Steelers or it would be done. He wants to get paid and rightfully so. I just don't think Peterson... err Bell will be worth much in two or three seasons. I really don't.

Huh? They will hammer out a new contract right up against the deadline to do so. Don't think that because there is no contract currently, that there aren't negotiations going on behind the scenes. The inherent risk with Bell are the injuries he's had and of course making sure he stays out of trouble. I'd argue that he's a more complete RB than Peterson with his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield and his ball security. Peterson is a fumbling machine. Bell protects the ball very well for us. The problem now with paying Bell is how long can he perform at this high level before the hits of his position wear his body down?

Well you kinda got the point. If Bell could continue his production Id give him a 5 year deal. Problem is he wants money for what he has done not what he can do. Which is understandable. He has finished one sesson so far and in Tomlin's 10 years here he has never showed me he can manage a running back. So he catches better than Peterson and fumbles less. He will continue to be an injury problem because no one can get that volume of touches and not get hurt.

Bell is coming off his rookie contract and has plenty of production ahead of him. This isn't a 30-year old running back that wants paid for his past and not future potential that we're talking about here.

I don't see Bell going anywhere one way or another.

Two knees and a groin. Bet he has the body of a near 30 year old. Guarentee he wants near AB money. (As he should) Where is that supposed to come from.

Tomlin has proven that he can run the wheels off of near anyone.......... Bell is well into that trip.

Salute the nation
Precisely. He has had two near perfect 10-15 touch complements in Blount and D Will. The problem is that they lose a few easy early to mid season games which makes every game from Mid November on a must win.

Peterson and Bell both came back from devastating knee injuries to become top backs in the league after the injury. That is where the comparisons end, other than they play the same position.

Peterson has more speed and power
Bell has more elusiveness vision and is an excellent receiver

I've always said you sign Bell because he is 2 players in one. He's a top RB, and probably the 2nd best receiving option on our team. He doesn't come off the field, because he doesn't have to.

I'm not worried about a contract with him yet, or saying it won't happen, because we haven't even started training camp yet. Steelers will get something done by the end of camp, and if not, we have him for a year as a franchise RB. He's getting paid either way.

Peterson was a great back but he was way overpaid. They paid him, what, $12 million per when No. 2, McCoy is sitting at $8 million and McCoy is a stud. I see us offering Bell a $9 or maybe $10 million per year contract. No way in hell do I come close to what Peterson was making. His contract was an anomaly. Bell will make more if he stays on the franchise tag this year and next. As good as Bell is, a long term deal should NOT get him anywhere near that franchise tag number.

Any player who produces like Bell has is going to get a FAT contract after their rookie contract runs its course. The question is how many years do you give him. To me the deal should be incentive laden so we protect the team and have less worry about the suspension aspect. The injuries unfortunately are part of the game and a reason why a RB was drafted so highly this year.

I pay him anything he wants as long as it is incentive based.

I love that Bell play for the Steelers, but I wouldn't bury this team in a cap-busting contract to keep him. As great as he is, two teams went to last year's SuperBowl without him, so we don't NEED him to make there ourselves. If a reasonable contract is possible, then make it happen. If he's asking for something unreasonable, then make him play out his franchise tag year while making other plans....

nothing that I witnessed about the Steelers tells that that is a worry.

Has he finished a playoff game healthy yet?

He has- and in spectacular fashion...

Without him, we certainly don't get past KC.

He isn't busting the cap. Were $15M under and he's already counting $12M against the cap. Pretty sure if he signs any deal, we will actually gain cap space this season.

The window is 2-3 years to win it all if we're lucky with Ben at qb. I'd go with a 4 year deal on Bell at most. His shelf life I think is 3 years given his workload, injury rate and suspension potential. I'd love to see him go a whole season/post season without the wheels falling off

Well this is the 1st year in 3 seasons that he will starting the season in week one...Hopefully anyways. The year is still young.

They are 15 under now but the issue becomes in a multi year deal if they are paying him 10 plus next year you have to sign other players like Shazier, Tuitt etc.

Don't go posting cold hard facts, someone is going to be upset that Bell is being overpaid.
