Let me tell you one got damn thing..

Diontae is soft and has made some bonehead decisions this year. Two weeks in a row he's been knocked out of a game. If he can't stay on the field healthy then he is a liability to suit up when he can leave the offense shorthanded. Ray Ray may just take this guy's spot.

soft? really? dude was clocked in the ******* head, bleeding out of his ear and was on the field the next week. he can't help getting a concussion any more than any other player can.
Like i said on that punt return, he was twisted by the defender when tackled. after the play. yet the refs let the Eagles do that **** for awhile without flags.

With our 3 WRs of Juju, Johnson and Chase ... we'll let Washington walk when he's a FA. Juju's price may drop some with Johnson and Chase emerging. I, for one, hope we keep Juju. The trio cited will be very, very good for years to come. And could extend Ben's health and stats by a year.

Not that me or the team doesn't want to keep JuJu but I think that the going rate for free agent #1 WR's is more that we can afford against the cap.

it's ******* awful, that's what's wrong with it, numbnuts.
Your opinion. Many others have no problem with it. Some of you snowflake over the dumbest *** ****. He likes it who really gives a **** beyond that.

He wasn't born with the Juju, Washington, Mapletron's body frame either. I haven't heard anything like that from anyone outside of the occasional Steeler fan. Like you I am not buying it and a few fans are way to critical in regards to DJ the kid is still wet behind the ears and people are already labeling him. SMH

Yes he is soft. His smaller body is more injury prone given the size of the defenders tackling him.

The route tree is really a talking point. It really comes down to what you win with. Small agile guys like Dionte and AB win with quicker than average change (agility). Big guys win with body box. He doesn't need to run a complete route tree. He won't be running most of those routes. He needs to be at the right place at the right time and like Ben said he only makes a mistake once. He runs all the deep routes which sets up his comeback and if you watched him at South Bend, he is a killer on the cross.
I'm going to preface this when I say it because I'm not saying he will have this players career. That would be stupid. However, the comparison shouldn't be to Calvin Johnson. That is D.K. Metcalf. The real comparison is Larry Fitzgerald. Watch his highlight package and what he looks like running, with and without the ball and tell me differently.

it's not like he's a midget out there. he's just about the same size as the DBs he faces. he's quick and can make sharp cuts, unlike taller receivers. While there are pros and cons to both size receivers, we have a very good mix of those with Claypool (size and speed), Juju (size, quickness and speed) and DJ (quickness and speed).

Smaller body frame doesn't have to equal soft. In history their are some smallish people who packed quite a punch one way or another. The kid will have different strengths compared to a bigger or stronger player. Anyone who fights through injuries and continues fighting forward isn't soft.

Again too early to label the kid anything he hasn't shown any negatives consistently.

I really think right know the labels are kneejerk reactions.

I am excited for Johnson to return, Johnson, Claypool and JuJu will be tough for any team to cover. Claypool reminds me of Santonio Holmes, Size, speed, after catch ability, seems to be a natural pass catcher with soft hands. Looks like Ben's go too guy already.

it's almost as if people have deleted Antonio Brown from their memories and can't understand why a team would want a small, quick WR who can get great separetion and make people miss in open field.

What is obvious is that the steelers want 2 different types of WR. They want some big body guys who can block and also make plays downfield. And they also want some quick guys who can do damage underneath and make big plays out of short throws. Why is that so hard to understand?

It sure seems like he was doing it all yesterday, catching it short, intermediate and deep.

I think because he is not the most agile or light on his feet his route running is very underrated.

He's crafty and smart, as he just has a great feel for using the fear defenders have for his speed to his advantage by using subtle moves and body language to create space for himself.

He completely spun Jalen Mills around on the in-breaking route on his first receiving TD yesterday.

I just do not think the "one trick pony" label fits him at all.

He just has something from an awareness and technique standpoint that the likes of Bryant and Mike Wallace lacked.

Those two should have been a lot better on the underneath stuff, given how loosely opposing DBs played them.

What i saw were a lot of vertical routes. TE Seam routes. Deep fades. Skinny Posts. That's what he does.

Claypool scored on that WR screen but they had 3 guys blocking for him. How many times did Ben throw quick to AB with no blockers and he made it a big play? DJ can do that too. Claypool can't. He's not that type of player.

i totally agree on after-catch abililty, soft hands, etc, but size? claypool is much bigger than santonio holmes, it's not even close

I would just like Johnson to catch the ball as consistently as Washington & JuJu.

Johnson has had flashes of greatness but seems soft, meaning cant take a hit. I can recall many games watching him leave due to dings....

I'd make the Steve Smith comparison regarding Diontae. No they are not replicas. But Steve Smith was a tough son of a ***** at 5'9", 195. Diontae's listed at 5'10", 183.

Similar in stature. Some guys are injury prone, others take the knocks better. So far, and yes he "can't help it" - Diontae's not staying healthy. Smith used to just take abuse and keep rolling.

I love Diontae's potential, but he's gotta get his head straight (drops, fumbles) and if he does and remains healthy - holy ****.

All this back and forth about SOFT Johnsons and Studs with soft hands ...... is getting ridickulous ........ as long as DJ and Chase don't turn out to be another AB in the DD Department (Diva ********)

who cares...... let their play on the field with a HOF QB at the helm determine their worth at seasons end:cents::cents:

I for one am GLAD Deonte Johnson is on this team. He has so much to offer and another off season (after this season) will definately help him structure a better building plan for lasting the season. REMEMBER this is just his second year and some here are acting like he is a veteran WR. Chase is also a rookie playing better than a rookie, just Remeber how young these guys are as that does make a difference. **** JuJu did some dumb *** stuff in his inaugural & 2nd year as well.

Just be glad that we have a VERY good WR pool right now and sit back aNd enjoy the ride .

Salute the nation

He is big might be able to run through people where DJ can not. Claypool also caught at least 2 balls in tight coverage on quick routes. One was a nice slant against their best DB. So of his 7 catches at least 3 (2 slant type routes and WR screen) were quick hitters. He may be better at deeper routes, but he has shown he can get enough separation on quick routes too.
